Rick and Morty: Rattlestar Ricklactica (2019)
Back on Track!
Not gonna lie, the last episode in my opinion was the worst one of the series. A lot of the jokes fell flat and the whole "horny dragon" storyline was kind of lost on me. But this episode without a doubt made up for it! This is a classic Rick and Morty episode, and I felt myself laughing a lot during it, which is something that hasn't happened often this season. Overall it's a 9.1/10, and definitely a step in the right direction for the season!
Rick and Morty: The Old Man and the Seat (2019)
Season 4 is Already on Par With Season 2
This episode is subtly incredible. Episode 1 was a good start, but we really get into some character development with this one. Rick's whole arc is tracking down someone who pooped on his toilet, one that is hidden in the woods, because he's a shy pooper. On the way, he does his typical Rick schtik by going to any length to figure out who this guy is. But when he meets him, he's surprised to find out that he wants Rick to kill him because he has not been fulfilled in life. Rick ends up sparing him and later on comes to find out he died from trying to live life to the fullest. The encounter sinks him into a drunken depression, him sitting on his toilet while surrounded by 1000s of himself telling him how worthless he is, which was originally intended for his dead friend. It's sad to see Rick in this state, silently grieving over a lost friend, while constantly reminded of how his existence is worthless.
Morty's character development is subtle. After Jerry develops an app with Rick's intern (which he was explicitly told not to do), Morty doesn't take too kindly to Jerry's screw ups. He tells his dad how disappointed he was in him and how he's embarrassed to be his son. It shows how much more he's becoming like Rick, more brutal and condescending with his speaking. I'm excited to see where his arc is headed. 10/10, one of my favorite episodes of the series.
Joker (2019)
It's Supposed to Make You Uncomfortable
It's a movie about an uncomfortable yet pervasive subject. And it portrays it brilliantly. Of course not every mentally ill person is going to murder people, the message is we shouldn't allow people to find that place to begin with. This will be brief, so to sum it up, Phoenix earned an Oscar WIN and this movie should make you cringe. If you don't feel comfortable watching the movie, then it did its job.
Mr. Robot: eps1.7_wh1ter0se.m4v (2015)
Holy Shit
This episode is everything perfect about television. Kudos to Sam Esmail for taking me on a rollercoaster of a ride that I have not felt since the episode "Half Measures" of Breaking Bad.
This twist does not seemingly come out of left field and yet we the viewers are still in shock by it. Elliot talking to the viewer is absolutely nothing new. Neither is the fact that he has delusions, evident by the fact that ECorp is always referred to as Evil Corp. The fact that Darlene is his sister was a huge shock, and even more of a shock that Mr. Robot is likely his father. The episode now sets up the idea that none of this is real, and Elliot is only seeing what he perceives is true, when in actuality it is not.
More episode points include the revelation that Tyrell and Mr. Robot not only know each other, but seem to be working together. I'm highly interested in seeing where this goes. Furthermore, the murder of Sharon Knowles puts Tyrell on the brink of insanity as well, seeing a parallel between him and Elliot in their increased delusions and insanity.
This episode is a masterpiece and I cannot wait to continue the series.
