This Town (2024)
Beautiful, thoughtful with stars of the future
I am loving this three eps in. The two young men are stars and the dialogue is perfect. Love the interplay between loyalty, aspiration and the pull of place and family.
It's not fast paced but don't be out off. It's part nostalgia, part family saga.
I don't want to say more as I think the show speaks for itself. There is a star performance from Michelle Dockery, playing the alcoholic mother. She must have been thrilled to play her.
It's moody, perfectly captures the era and everything the BBC should be making. Stephen Knight has excelled with a pitch perfect script backed up by a great cast.
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
Great cast, nothing else to recommend it
Pedigree doesn't ensure watchable tv. Characters were broad, unengaging and unlikeable. Nicole plays a pastiche of a Russian guru, unmovable in every way. Couldn't imagine sitting through another episode. Awful.
Giri/Haji (2019)
Great drama dressed up as cops n robbers
Wonderful to be introduced to such a tremendous cast. Loved Will Sharpe who made Rodney a standout but equally compelling were Takehiro Hira, Yosuke Kubozuka and Aoi Okuyama. Great to see new people on screen. It's not often I can see the perfection of direction but everything about this show was superb. Hays off to Julian Farino. I'll be watching him. Stellar.
