stigma on rape victim
3 April 2001
The story started with a simple happy family of Avinash (Anil Kapoor) and Preeti (Aishwarya Rai) having a family outing with their two kids. On the next scene, we saw that Preeti was hated by her own father. As the curiosity of the audience started to increase, the story unfolds itself when the film showed flashback for the audience to know the real story of Preeti and Avinash. Both have a dark secret that they tried to hide.

The story coped about the stigma in India on rape victims. It was clearly illustrated in the film that a rape victim will be shunned by her own family and society. She would be doomed to be unmarried for life since her father would be ashamed to consider her as 'perished goods'. An astounding performance by the lead especially Aishwarya Rai as Preeti, the rape victim. I would suggest this story to anyone who wanted to see the taboo breaking on rape victim in India.

Simply perfect
2 April 2001
I just saw Children of Heavens with my friends. The story line is simple but adorable. The plot revolves around Ali and his younger sister, Zahra. Ali just lost Zahra's shoe and the two find a solution of wearing Ali's snicker to go to school. Since their family is poor, both of them didn't want their father to find out about the lost shoe and try their best to keep it a secret. Zahra would run home from the morning school in the afternoon to give Ali his snicker so he can go to school. When a race was on, Ali entered the race when he saw the third prize: a pair of snicker. The story end with a heart wrenching, deep family values between Zahra and Ali.

reality about dancers' life
6 March 2001
I first saw the film in 1998, and I was never tired of seeing the film again and again. Karishma Kapoor as Nisha gave a first rate performance even though she played second fiddle to Madhuri Dixit (Pooja). The story revolves around the life of dancers. Nisha and Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) are best friends. Unknown to Rahul, Nisha secretly loved him. Pooja came into the scene after Nisha accidentally slipped her foot during dancing practice for Rahul's next production drama entitled Maya. Desperate to search for Nisha's replacement, Rahul saw Pooja dancing in the studio. Pooja eventually replaced Nisha. During the production, Pooja and Rahul feel in love. Problem came early, since Pooja was engaged to marry Ajay (Akshay Kumar). The story is aim towards loving couples questioning about their own love to each other. Watch for the dancing steps of Karishma and Shahrukh, both were highly praised in the film for such energetic dance numbers.

Best adaptation of Jane Austen
1 March 2001
I first saw the movie this year, after it was screened in the television. The settings are simply lovely, the cast develop their characters as the story enfolds until the end. Emma Thompson shines as the sensible Elinor Dashwood and Kate Winslet gave an astounding performance as Marianne Dashwood. The performance of Alan Rickman as Colonel Brandon is excellent since we pitied him for his great disappointments and past history. The supporting cast are really delightful, alongside with the leading roles (note for the youngest sister of Dashwood, Margaret). Even though to some viewers the movie seemed slow paced, but the time is sufficient for the story line to grow and move until the end. This movie simply delights the female gender, knowing that we can relate the struggle of Elinor as the sensible sister and the outrageous Marianne to our daily life.
