Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
STAR WARS HAS JUMPED THE SHARK.
Yes the special effects are great bravo to the animators and CGI techs. The story is weak, the acting is forced and unnatural and goes nowhere at all.I could not watch anymore after 3\4 through I shut it off. It is an awful movie, and will probably be remembered as the worst Star Wars movie of all time. Hollywood is woke, and if you are too,I guess you'll just love this expensive piece of garbage. May the force be with Ricky Gervais-his laser was right on target when he roasted the Hollywood Empire at the Golden Globes. FYI, his opening speech was BY FAR more entertaining than this awful movie.
The Cat and the Moon (2019)
Worth every minute.
Was this movie perfect? No. Great films are rarely perfect, and yes this movie is great. It is a bit of a roller coaster ride, but one that keeps you interested from one scene to the next. There are all too familiar situations of reckless youth -and the terrible anger and despair of manic depression that often goes with it. I often thought of my own youth during this film, and how lucky i was to live through the more foolish times -when making stupid mistakes was a daily occurence. Performances are brilliant and inspired and the screenplay is excellent. Yes this is a film about a bunch of rich, selfish New York City kids, who are finding out who they really are; warts and all. IMO it should at the very least have a critic rating of 7.5, you should see it for yourself- you might agree.
Joker (2019)
Not your typical comic book character movie NOT FOR KIDS UNDER 13/14 yrs old
I did not enjoy this movie. It is dark, depressing, and disturbing. There is an audience for this film -just not me. Joquin Pheonix is an outstanding actor -I just could not feel any sympathy towards his character because I didn't like his character. That is because his character is not likable. This was never meant to be a mainstream film, there is no humor in it whatsoever and although it was terrible (IMO of course) I'm sure it is destined to be a cult classic like "eraserhead" and certain John Waters films.
The Only Living Boy in New York (2017)
Great story,great movie.
The characters are mostly Hollywood veterans with a few new faces but I tell you what a great movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it took me by surprise-Marc Webb is a great director very "woody allenish" but with a more modern flair. I would recommend this movie to anyone that likes drama or rom-com films.
Brightburn (2019)
good horror flick
I did not expect to like this movie but I did. Refreshing take on the Superman shtick. Gory and fun with an ending that leaves a possibility for a sequel.
Zoe (2018)
One of the best AI movies.
Before I give my review I have to admit I'm biased because I love Sci Fi movies.
Although this is definitely a science fiction movie at its very core,It is also a love story, albeit a long a winding one. Ewan Magregor gives one of his best performances here,as does Lea Seydoux.I do think there could have been more character development with Christina Aguilera's character and even Theo James's character but there is alot going on. Although sometimes getting a little lost in sentimentality, the movie generally avoids cliches and keeps you very interested to see what happens next. A nicely done Sci Fi movie, one that's perfect for date night.
Fracture (2007)
Great Movie for popcorn movie night
Excellent smart thriller that you can watch with the family(not the little ones)
Usually with these kind of movies you have to apply the "suspension of disbelief" mechanism in ypur brain to get through the movie.:"Pick up the gun!" or the old "get in the car and the car wont start" as the killer approaches lol No need for that here with a story and screenplay this good. You will really enjoy this film it's what good thriller/mystery filmaking is all about, right up to the surprise ending.
My Days of Mercy (2017)
Worth watching.
No this wasn't a perfect movie. The screenplay was a bit cheesy and sometimes the words seemed crammed in to make a point or more plainly to force an emotional moment, however, that does not take away the fact that it's a good story, and the acting. while not perfect, is damn good. Ellen page is a tour de force and Kate Mara plays a difficult role with ease and charm. Even without the whole lesbian element this is a good film just on the merits of the acting and story. Yes I would define this as an "indie" film, but don't let that keep you from watching, it's a damn good indie film.
