Honey Boy (2019)
A personal history of Shia Lebeouf
Not an easy watch but a worthwhile one, lebeouf is unflinching in his depiction of his years as a child star and the neglect he suffered from those who should have protected him. Beautifully shot and directed with a powerful performance from Lebeouf in the role of his father
Monos (2019)
Beautiful visceral race for survival
I saw this film at London Film festival and was blown away. Visceral and haunting - it is a meditation on the cycle of trauma that causes generations of young people to become militarised. Highly recommend
Atlantique (2019)
Chilling love story
Atlantics tells a story of young love and unbearable loss against the backdrop of economic inequality and financial desperation that leads young men to risk their lives attempting to cross sea to a better life and the women who are left behind to cope alone. Great performances from the leads and haunting cinematography- an original take on a tragic story.
Watchmen (2019)
Mind blown!
Combining the legacy of a real historical massacre with an cleverly crafted expansion of the Watchmen universe timeline, this series hits the beat of every important issue of today and mixes it up with mind blowing science fiction. Regina King is captivating against a strong ensemble cast- including Jeremy Irons in full on supervillain camp and Hong Chau as the ice cold Lady Trieu - bring on season 2!
