On the Line (2022)
Oh dear God walk away from this
This has got to be one of the worst things I've ever finished watching. I begrudgingly finished watching this mess. I can't believe it's rated over two stars on here. Mel Gibson looks clown-like as he searches the building for the "madman." The script was embarrassingly weak and idiotic. The premise started becoming clear as this waste of two hours was finally drawing to its agonizing end. Then the OBVIOUS and pathetic second "GOT CHA" was so predictable, my CAT knew what was coming. And OH MY GOD they went there...Gibson's character was Elvis, and the script ACTUALLY had "Elvis has left the building" included...as if the entire thing wasn't already just PREPOSTEROUS. Don't be like me...don't waste valuable time on this excruciatingly painful and ridiculous mess. And OH MY GOD I think it ended as if there may be a sequel. RUN, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles (2006)
Pretty cool way to pass the time....
The Uber-rich looking for money-is-no-object housing, power players in real estate, glamor and opulence, but you know that going in. Lightly scripted I'm sure for a little real estate drama, and who doesn't want some "I'LL not take a PENNY under TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS." I mainly watch for the houses and furnishings that pale in comparison to the inexpensive but adorable things that make me deliriously happy. But what I wasn't expecting was Josh Flagg and the story of his absolute love and devotion to Edith, his adorable Grandmother. His love cannot be scripted. His respect and adoration cannot be prewritten in any manner. And his grief at her passing broke my heart. I loved my sweet Grandma too. So for that reason, Josh Flagg is my favorite adorable, well-dressed, pompous high-end realtor.
Hell Camp: Teen Nightmare (2023)
Horrendous
So the whole time I'm watching this horror unfold, I kept thinking and hoping that the founder of this abuse camp would be held accountable. Turns out that legally, he skates by, untouched. But he got his in the end, I'm happy to say. You really got to love that ex-wife though. Her husband being acquitted in the death of an attendee at his horror show was "the answer to a prayer." The ex and the daughter both deserved slaps....their husband/father and founder of this travesty "was never really there" during the abuse. He made MILLIONS off the parents of the teenagers that were brought to his "therapeutic" camps. The adults being interviewed who had been teens at these camps are STILL suffering...still crying...still damaged. It's too bad that the founder didn't suffer legal issues, but cancer decided he'd make a perfect candidate.
The Horror of Dolores Roach (2023)
Fantastic
I've been surfing all my streaming services for a gold nugget. This one caught my eye a few times, did the obligatory addition to my list. So when I decided that today would be the day to pick a film from said list, I picked this one.
It's just so freaking good. There are a couple funny lines; always in the mood for a dark comedy. I felt the story was very believable and the cast was very good as well.
All that being said, I sit here still REELING from scene involving Delores and Luis. As Luis painfully described an incident from his childhood, I was mesmerized. The portrayal of Luis' pain from going such through a life-altering event just leaped right off my TV screen...it was a visceral reaction.
To Leslie (2022)
Too close to home for me...
I agree that the film is well-acted. I even agree with some reviews here that it's a good portrayal of redemption. I simply took an immediate dislike to Leslie mainly due to having lived decades with a character exactly like her in my family. Her selfishness, her lies, her total disregard for anyone but herself, her manipulation, her stealing...it was hard to dredge up any sympathy for her at all. I didn't want to see her succeed. I didn't want others in her life to give her yet another chance. And I really didn't want to see any romance happen for her. In my opinion, letting one's guard down over and over and over for someone so destructive is actually doing self-harm. So yeah...good performances aside, Leslie didn't deserve redemption.
Resurrection (2022)
Oh no...just...no
Oh Rebecca Hall, really??!! I'll sign up for anything she's acting in, as she's a favorite of mine. But THIS MOVIE is preposterous. I'm not sure why I stayed until the end of this debacle. The story line is absurd. The relationship between Maggie and David is freakishly ridiculous. I can't even comment on Hall's acting because I'm insulted that she would commit to something so utterly weird and bizarre. I even tried coming at this from a grieving mother's point of view. That didn't work either. Is this creation a result of the writer's strike or is my timing off? Don't watch this. It's just bad.
Sex/Life (2021)
Yeah it's bad
Impossibly beautiful people having ravenous, wall-slamming, continous sex just about anywhere they end up. Kitchen counters, boardrooms, a FERRIS WHEEL for gods's sake, tied up down the hall from their toddler...and the acting is cringe-worthy at best. I swear I believe the Majid character literally entered the studio by mistake and got the part. And I'll just leave the Gigi character alone...I'm sure she even winces if she watches herself. And the cliches! My god the cliches! I believe it was Majid that uttered "Sometimes a bad day can turn out to be one of your best..." or some tripe. So yeah, it's gratuitous sex and gorgeous homes and amazing cars and killer fashion.
The Affair (2014)
My "eight" rating drops significantly at seasons 4 and five.
I couldn't get enough of this series at first. In my humble opinion, it should have stopped after season three. I'm currently watching season five, begrudgingly at best, and I doubt I can continue. Once I saw Anna Paquin I knew I would lose interest, and Sierra has just iced that cake. The Affair has stayed way past its welcome. Ruth Wilson is just off-the-charts incredible to watch, so much so that I'm searching for anything she's starred in. The ripple effects of the actual affair are significant. I think that once Alison leaves the story, the story is over. I've actually seen other reviews along this same tone so I'm glad I'm not alone in my opinion.
Lakewood (2021)
So bad...
Oh my god. This is one of the most frustrating films I've ever not finished. It is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to RUN through a forest AND make 150 cell phone calls at the same time. She was sending texts while running. She was looking at maps while running. She hailed a LYFT driver...WHILE RUNNING. She had an employee at an auto repair shop FIND HER SON'S TRUCK....and you know the rest. Don't waste your time on this insulting movie.
Escape to the Chateau (2016)
OBSESSED
I love everything about this show. The chateau is breath-taking. The location is mesmerizing. The makeover is incredible. And I love Angel and Dick...they're adorable.
La Brea (2021)
Ok I tried
I gave it a shot. Pretty decent special effects is about all I can say. Some of the WORST acting I've ever seen out of the daughter character. I mean really bad.
In Extremis (2017)
Nope
Ok I think we can all agree that talking in codes is a fairly interesting way to start a movie. But my god this entire wasted effort was utterly ridiculous. It was a parody of itself.
I, Psychopath (2009)
Do psychopaths know they're psychopaths?
I have experienced first-hand, in-your-face psychopathy, for most of my life. (Hard to escape family at times.) Within minutes of watching this film, I couldn't see more than a massive self-promotional gig. Vaknin comes across as a bully mostly, basically bragging about what a total jerk he can and will be. He announces his almost certain future cruelty with glee. I even doubt the validity of his ten-year marriage. And he gets no points for not being physically aggressive with others. His verbal take-downs are surely sufficient to show people how tough he is.... I just think he's a d**k.
Beneath (2007)
I tried..
I gave it my best effort. I couldn't tolerate that monotone, expressionless main character to finish this movie. She's apparently a graduate of the Kristen Stewart school of boring acting.
The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019)
Ten star rating
The only reason I gave this movie a ten star rating is because I couldn't rate it any higher. This thing is a work of art. There's no use in me listing specifics here, because it doesn't miss on any level. I was mesmerized.
Sound of Metal (2019)
A nine-star rating only because....
....the scenario surrounding the cochlear implants. The doctor, the appointment, the surgery just happened too fast and too easily. I couldn't see how/where he got the money. But otherwise, what a phenomenal film. And what a stellar and powerful portrayal of Ruben by the lead actor. The sound editing was brilliant, switching from actual noise to Ruben's hearing. Just brilliant.
Breeders (2020)
A great start but....
So I have found myself losing interest. I just don't know how this couple goes from their busy lifestyle, two kids and only one spare bedroom, dad's anger issues (which hasn't quelled my raging crush on him) to the decision of IVF treatments for another kid. Really? It's a good series, but this recent storyline is odd. Otherwise, Martin Freeman is a hottie.
Suspiria (2018)
No. Just...no.
I don't have the words. Baffling? Weird? Two hours you will never get back? I prefer obscure films but I can only take so much.
The Child Remains (2017)
Nope.
Here's where I walked away....the baby being buried, as the mother lays dying after just giving birth, HAD TO BE SIX MONTHS OLD. Don't waste your time.
