Hævnens nat (1916)
Perhaps even greater than Det Hemmelighedsfulde X!
Hævnens Nat is the second film, that Benjamin Christensen made. His first film Det Hemmelighedsfulde X, had a very innovative camera-style. And Hævnens Nat continues in the same path. The story in this film is even better than in the first one, and its remarkable that Christensen doesn't use a lot of inter titles as in many of other films of that time. The camera movements in this film is, yet again, fabulous, and there is a really nice shot where a camera rolls backwards from a window. In this film we get a lot to know about the persons psychological background, which we did not get anything of in Benjamins first film. Its not a big question why this movie became such a big success back in 1915-1916!
Det hemmelighedsfulde X (1914)
Amazing film
A wonderful silent film! This is one of the most innovative silent films ever. The danish director Benjamin Christensen made his director debut with this film that he financed himself. With his own company Dansk Biografkompagni, he started filming this film, that he wrote over one night. The plot in the film is good but not great. What makes this film so interesting is how Benjamin Christensen used darkness vs. light to create an atmosphere. Before this film a lack of light was considered as a lack of talent, but Benjamin proved that shadows can be very effective.
A great film
Waterworld (1995)
A Great film
Excellent. What an excellent movie! This movie is nearly perfect whit all the action. But the movie does contains some mistakes, like where do the smokers' get there tobacco from? And I think the realism breaks at the point when Costner kills a digital sea monster. But no matter what, is this a beautiful film. The camera-movements are breathtaking. If there wouldn't have been all these small mistakes and if the ending would have been a bit darker, this film would have been perfect. Waterworld is in it's context very much like The Postman. Costner also has the main role in this film, and it also became a great flop.
I don't understand why people loves to hate Costner. He has made some great movies, and this is one of his better.
