Ray Donovan: The Movie (2022)
Too thin a story for a movie.
Too thin a story for a movie. But I have to say the story is well told, filmed and acted, nice a-cronological and almost impossible to follow if you've never seen the series.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Toe-curling funny
Because it's a brilliant parody that unfortunately isn't a parody.
It goes to show in a fun way how we got lost because our politics are capital-driven instead of science-driven.
I understand why the cast consists of so many super actors and why they were so eager to participate, this movie is not only the metaphor for the current climate crisis but for everything that is going on right now.
Unfortunately, the film is also made according to the current social media standard, including the frame of reference of the people who use it 24/7, for example their (less present) sense of humor.
The brass section in the score "It's a strange glorious world" (00h56m) is sooo nice, a G3 while the highest note on a trumpet is only C3.
The movie is edited nicely to the beat most of the time.
Black Friday (2021)
Not worth your time
It looks like they did not spend any money and time making it, so don't waste your time watching it.
It is a copy of the 1988 movie called The Blob. But even though that one was 33 years ago it was way better.
It is like a bunch of scenes put together, but that does not make a movie.
Also the scenes are acted weird, like they are completely not in their characters but just reading the lines. Very unconvincing.
The whole movie is shot in one place in which they just run back and forth. The special effects are bad, cheap and last wayyy too long.
Terrible.
In the Company of Women (2015)
Only good thing about this movie is the soundtrack
Fall by Emmaline & King of California.
For the movie they just put together some elements that could have made a good movie but the way they did that is so not realistic.
Even the foley, the post-production sound adding, is awkward, clumsy and not realistic, for example in the fighting scene at the beginning.
Nearly all the dialogs are inexperiencedly over-acted, repeated too much and even though the main character speaks too fast, the dialogs go really slow. No one in real life would talk to each other like that.
The plot is so thin that there is not enough to turn it into a movie.
