The movie that turned me to Bollywood films
26 August 2004
I saw this film randomly the other day while at a friend's house. She comes from Indian decent and had always nagged me to watch Indian films with her but I always declined. Being a general film fanatic, I agreed to watch this film, not expecting much. But as soon as I got into the story (and got over the horrible and sometimes non-visible subtitles) I was completely hooked! Whether it was the directing or the wonderful screen presence of the actors, somethng about this film had the ability to capture the emotions of the viewer. I can say that having been used to watching generally American films, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a romance that stands out from the typical Hollywood love story -- paying attention to detail and character development in a way in which I've rarely seen before. Although I was quite new to Indian "musical numbers" in which they incorporate within their films and even found the performances in them a little bit on the cheesy side, I throroughly enjoyed some of the songs as well. Great melodies, especially the title song -- which added to the emotional impact of the movie itself. I wll definitely be looking out for more Indian films in the future.

Teen Sorcery (1999 Video)
Extremely cheesy
15 December 2003
"Are You Afraid of the Dark?" called - they want their ideas back.

But seriously, if "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" and "Goosebumps" could be somehow merged to make just one single hour and a half movie, you would get Teen Sorcery. I came across this movie tonight on cable and was initially pulled in because I noticed A.J Cook (who I love) was in it. I always seem to accidentally come across Cook's movies on late night t.v out of nowhere - and man, has she ever done some of the worst of the worst. Teen Sorcery just adds to the pile along with Wishmaster 2 and Ripper (although her acting in Ripper was good enough to keep me watching).

Anyways, if your not a fan of stereotypical snobby cheerleaders, corny special effects, unrealistic witchcraft, and biotches turning into dragons, I suggest you stay clear of this movie! Includes a few "roll your eyes" laughs, but not worth it in my opinion.

It's a thinking one, I'll tell you that..
28 February 2003
I watched this movie for the first time last night at about 1:30 in the morning (half asleep and with drowsy thinking)and although I totally did not grasp an understanding of the ending, it left me thinking about it for the rest of most of the night. The Virgin Suicides is one of those movies that leave you pondering for answers and rationalizing a theory that puts the last peices of a very complex puzzle together. Although the Lisbon girls are in fact the central characters in the movie, the viewer can only know them as the neighbourhood boys do---from the outside looking in. Kirsten Dunst's portrayal of Lux Lisbon was well done. If you are used to seeing her in movies such as "Bring It On" or "Get Over It" or other so-called "teen movies" with a conventional plot, I wouldn't classify The Virgin Suicides as a typical teen movie. It is much more deeper, darker, mysterious--even depressing, yet funny and captivating at the same time. This one makes you think...and by the end of it you'll have your own theory as to why the 5 beautiful Lisbon sisters put an end to their lives.
