The Core (2003)
GREAT FILM!
A really great film to watch.
All you have to be prepared to do, is negate the film's imaginary science.
If you can do that, its a wonderful film. And, WATCH THIS IN A THEATRE!
I've seen it twice.
City of Angels (1998)
WOW!
***********HERE LIE MAJOR SPOILERS*********** I just rented the DVD last night.
To put it in one word: WOW! I was amazed at how great this movie was.
According to me, a great movie is one which you enjoy watching as well as thinking about for at least a day after watching it.
As of hour no. 20, I still can't stop thinking about it.
One of the best things I liked about the movie was the way it handled religion and faith - Nothing too obvious or no clear hints at any specific religion (Although I have to admit, there are a few references to christianity).
(After Maggie's death) Seth: Am I being Punished? Cassiel: Come on, you know better than that.
Another thing that I'm sure bothered a lot of people is the ending. I'd like to ask you though, what would you have done? Ended in the typical Happy-Romantic film manner? Or givien Seth the axe?
The ending had a special significance. Maggie died in the same way that Seth got a human life. They were both trying to enjoy their lives to the fullest. Feel what they had never felt before.
Two more issues that people bring up are Nick cage's acting and the cliches in the movie. Cage has never really struck me as a untalented one-genre actor that some think he is. I've enjoyed watching him in most of his roles. Sure he looks and acts a bit like Big Moose at times, but for the most part I don't notice. BTW, if the movie were cliched, it would have ended right after Maggie died. We wouldn't have been shown the montage after or the beautiful scene in which Seth and Cassiel discuss the happenings of the past few days and more importantly, we wouldn't have got what I feel is one of the most touching lines that I've ever heard in a movie:
Seth: I would rather have had one breath of her hair....one kiss from her mouth....one touch of her hand, than eternity without it. One
Another touching moment is the time we hear the old man in the library read Hemingway.
The overall casting is great. Meg Ryan plays her typical role perfectly with a few subtle, emotional changes. Dennis Franz (who I usually can't stand) was also cast well for his short scenes. Even Andre Braughner stands out as Cassiel.
All the angels scenes were well choreographed and played out with some mind blowing instrumental music. I especially enjoyed the scenes where the camera angle is blown over the city and we see angels in places like helipads, etc.
I've never really enjoyed to many other tragic movies, Arlington Road and Romeo and Juliet come to mind, But City of Angels really stands out. I will be buying the DVD once I can afford it. Although I should add that I doubt the movie will be very repeat-watch friendly. Its more of a 1 watch experience.
Another thing I want to add is that after watching the film, I finally understood the song, 'Iris' by the Goo Goo Dolls which is in the Soundtrack. I've always loved the song but now its got a bit of added meaning and emotional value.
Seven Days (1998)
Great show if you forgive the continuity problems
Its sad that 7 days got cancelled, especially when it was doing so well. The concept was so easy to mess up and overuse. 7 days manages brilliantly by putting in proper action and drama elements. Probably the only thing that hints at a goof is the fact that when Parker backsteps, he is never so to say, cloned. Thats probably the reason why Parker is never let out Never Never Land (the base). Also when he does go out, its at a bar late at night with everyone else.
I hope they get this series back after a few years.

Bloodhounds (1996)
Old Formula but still good
The movie uses the very overused '2 competing people on the same quest' formula but infuses a lot a of life into it. Dont get me wrong, the movie is VERY predictable but you have to hand it to Pablo Fenjves for making it interesting none the less. Christine Harnos for acting superbly in the part of Nikki. Corbin Bernsen is also very convincing as the humorous Harrison Coyle.
A good movie to watch if your alone on a weekend. I give it an 8/10.
Someone Like You... (2001)
In the Romance category toppled by only Notting Hill and You've Got Mail
Its a great movie but if your a guy, watch out! I almost walked out in the middle due to the amt. of anti-guy stuff there. But then you realise that its not an anti-guy movie, If I say more I'll be a spoiler it so forget it.
The cast is very convincing in their roles except Jane's (Ashley Judd's) crying, in one scene you can see she's laughing (When Eddie is consoling Jane towards the end. Overall, superb.
