Night Train to Venice (1993)
Probably the worst film in cinema history.
And I don't think I am exaggerating. Everything is terribly wrong in this picture: from the absolute lack of story (from minute 20 there is nothing to understand) to the amateur performances or cinematography. A complete failure.
En la ciudad sin límites (2002)
An amazingly well-crafted film.
Everything in it works perfectly, from the extraordinary performances to the atmospheric cinematography, music, etc. To me it was the best spanish movie of 2002 (better than Fresnadillo's "Intacto" or Almodovar's "Hable con ella") and among the best I've seen this year (maybe only beaten by "The Fellowship of the Ring" and "Spirited Away").
The ending deserves a special mention. It left me trembling with emotion and swallowing my tears and I can assure you that I'm not the type that cries in movies.
Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (2001)
A masterpiece
At the level of Totoro, this movie shows the widest and most astonishing repertoire of visual imaginery and creative storylines. The movie creates seemingly effortlesly a completely new world with its internal coherent laws that works amazingly, at least for me.
Tonari no Totoro (1988)
One of my all time favorites...
... for many reasons: the minimalistic storytelling, the totally believable human characters (and the adorable, magical fantastic characters), the beauty of the drawings and the music, and the compelling story. All this makes a flawless whole of magic on celluloid.
