Magnolia (1999)
good film to watch once...could not sit through it again
this was a three hour long film which in my opinion did not cover much ground. you do not notices this when you are watching it. it's afterwards when you think about and realise that you haven't learnt anything during the film. its a very slow film, and somewhat misguided.
the film is shot in such away that it keeps you gripped through the film. the acting is brillant from tom cruise and william.h.macy and you don't notice that time going by
it has the most unusual ending i have ever seen. the ending puts a mockery over the whole film, and gets you questioning the purpose of the film. the film seems to be presented as some old tale which parents tell there kids to teach them the way to live there life.
overall a intense and enjoyable film, just a bit weary about the purpose and message.

The Blair Witch Project (1999)
wake me up when its finished
i went into this film thinking, that the ametuer camera work would give this film a new edge, and create a scary movie. i was wrong.
okay, i admitt, the way it was shot and acted did make it seem real life. but what everybody is forgetting is that real life is borring that is why films are made as they are. this film was like watching a home movie of one of your early christmases. the first ten minutes is great but after a while it becomes long winded and you start fast forwarding it to other parts.
the film had a brillant idea behind it, which unfortunity did not pull off. no fault to the directors who had a great attempt. 5 out of 10
Gossip (2000)
critics hated...i loved it..who listens to critics anyway. high 7 out of 10
i have no idea why this film has been so bad mouthed by the public. paid critics may have some bad bad mouthing to do, as they insult any film which doesn't have a shakespearion performance in it. but as for the public, i have no idea of there problem
this film kept me on the edge of my seat for the majority of the film. the film started of well, got abit slow when the rumours got going, but after a while this film speeded up, with twist and turns coming at you like no bodies business.
the film was set up in a way that multiple plot twist were on offer. (slight spoiler) after the girl was killed, i became weary of all the character.
with all the multiple plot twist on offer, this one used one that i never would have expected. i'm usually quite good at guessing plot twist ( work out the twists in reindeer games, and primal fear half hour into them), but this one i never got.
the only problem i have with this film was ( spoiler) ...that it was never explained why artist room mate had an obsession with the murdered girl, and why he started screwing about with the murdered girls face on his computer screen, when the other two roommates were shagging.
when all is said and done, this was a great movie, which i would definetely see again. 7 out of 10
Angus (1995)
a bit formularic and corny..but has a killer soundtrack
the reason i watched this film was because i had heard that green day were on the soundtrack. the song impressed me, the film did not as much. it was okay, for a typical high school film, but the idea had been over used.
you know the scenerio, fat kid gets bullied, fat kid fights back with out fist, fat kid gets girl. an idea that has been over used and is simply incorrect. this simlpy does not happen. if the fat kid made a speech at my prom about not carring about being an outside...trust me,there would be no clapping from everyone at the prom
(small spoiler) some credit must be given for the fat kid not actually going out with the girl ( boyfriend girlfriend type thing). just gets to take her home, i think that them hooking up forever might be pushing it
angus's sidekick was very funny and had a good impact in the film. he brought up some good issues about unexceptance. and that it isn't just fat kids that wish they look different ( which sometimes we are made to believe).
overall it was an okay.. good advice..buy the soundtrack i is brillant.
I Am the Cheese (1983)
ummmmm..cheese....i like it
this was an outstanding film with some very funny moments. it was one of the classic films of the eighties and i'm suprised that no one else has reviewed this classic tale.
this film is a must for all the families so rush out and rent it now. you wont want to take it back

Dumb and Dumber (1994)
THE BEST COMEDY OF ALL TIME
this was the funniest film i have ever seen. every time i see i cry with laughter. it seems to get better the more times you see it, as more a more jokes become notisable.
i first watch it at the cinema, back in 94', and i am still watching it today. i must have seen it around 40 times...at least.
my friends get annoyed as i am allways quoting from the film..and when we watch it they can never hear the film as im quoting over it.
0ne of my favourite scenes is when jim carry is putting the vibe out at the bar. some of his expressions and movements are cryable
i don't think there will ever be another comedy that comes close....it's a shame but true.
10 out of 10 for this hit
Scary Movie (2000)
hooray!!! the spoof is back
i absolutely loved this film, and didn't stop crying with laughter all the way through it. i'm so glad that they are making spoofs that are actually funny, which has been the problem with the spoofs of the late 90's mafia, wrongfully accused).
The late 90's spoofs have been very disapointing, as they were becoming predictable as for they continuious re making of classic 80's and early 90's spoof ( airplane, spaceballs, hotshots ).
the film makings weren't taking the spoof genre into any new direction, everything had been done before. just as i was losing faith the wayans pull off a brillant spoof which has taken the genre in a new direction
the film is very crude, which a lot of people have complained about in pass reviews. personally i find the crude moments new and refreshing. i feel it is because of the crude moments which means this will only be appreciated by a selective audience ( 18-25). the older generation will find it disgraceful, and the children may find it a bit too much. im just glad i fall into the right category.
the film makes a mockery of the horror genre, and the puts into light the stupidilty of the late 90's teenage horror flicks. the film ends with a very funny twist which for me puts the icing on the cake!
i give this 9 out of 10
Rules of Engagement (2000)
the trial was over too quickly...pity the film wasn't
this film had a lot of potential but never fully got off the ground. (spoiler) the trial was over quickly which meant the conspiracy was never discovered, so the innocence of samuel l jackson was never really proven.
the trial lasted a week which meant that is never created enough tension.
it was a shame that the film was a bit of a flop as it did have some potential for being a good court room drama.
don't waste your money on it, but if someone is paying it is definitely worth a look.
Game-On (1995)
bring back ben chaplin
game on series one is in the top two funniest comedy series's of the 90's ( next to ' i'm alan partridge' series). the old matt malone ( ben chaplin) is hilarious, and his performance just makes me cry with laughter every time i watch it ( have it on video)
the new matt is nowhere near as funny as ben chaplin and i have no idea why that had to change it.
both matt bring different qualities, and it depends on why you find the matt funny, to what matt you will prefer. if you like it because looks cool and hard, but is actually a loser then ben chaplin is the man. if your humour is a bit more primitve, and you like it because matt looks a dickhead, and is a dickhead then new matt is the man
series one will go down he history trust me!!!
Rounders (1998)
Two young actors pull off a nail biting performance. look out for them
Rounders was one of the most tense and enjoyable films of 98'. this film included some nail biting performances by Edd Norton and Matt Damon. Matt Damon plays a law student who loses all of his money in a high-raked poker game. His old school mate is released out of jail (Edd Norton) and damon is gradually convinced to get back in the game after he learns about his mates high debts. the film has twist and turns which will keep you guessing untill the end. with some great dialogue from Matt Damon and Edd Norton which will keep you quoting untill your days are over. If you love this film i will recommend watching ed nortons best film to date ' fight club'. the film has convinced me that film quality over the next decade will be excellence. good luck to Norton and Damon.
