Star Trek: Discovery: Kobayashi Maru (2021)
Dumpster Fire is Right
Wow, what is going on with this show!!! After the turbo lift incident in last years finale things could get better right? Apparently not. Flames on the bridge of the Discovery like we are at some rock concert, heck they were happening at the station as well. The opening of the episode was so cringeworthy, who describes their cat as carnivorous? With an episode named Kobayashi Maru I was expecting the crew of Discovery to find an alien fleet surrounding them during the rescue mission, harkening back to Wrath of Kahn, but instead we get some sort of giant meteor/ice shower that shields can't even protect against.
Psycho Path (2019)
A well-pace thriller.
I recently watched "Psycho Path" at the Shriekfest film festival and came away impressed. Writer Cooper Thornton and director Daniel Robinette create a world that begs to be a feature length film. "Psycho Path" is a hybrid between a found footage and traditionally shot film with Abigail Wilson doing a fine job as Laurel. Taking cover in a cabin during a rain storm, Laurel discovers strange markings that give you a "Blair Witch" vibe. That's where the comparisons to "Blair Witch" begin and end, "Psycho Path" has it's own story to tell and it intensely builds it in a very smart way until the very end.
A Tuba to Cuba (2018)
An Incredible Documentary
I was lucky enough to catch "A Tuba to Cuba" during it's theatrical run in LA and I'm glad I did. Well edited and shot, this documentary does a great job showing how music unites us all. If you love Jazz music or just music in general you will love this doc.
Gladiator (2000)
A Great Way to Bring Rome Back to the Big Screen
If you haven't seen Gladiator, you may be missing out on one of the best of the Summer Movies. This film has a real plot, and characters that you'll both love and hate. Every character was interesting, the cinematography brings back images of Saving Private Ryan and Braveheart, and the musical score compliments the visuals perfectly.
In the same year that brought Battlefield Earth to the big screen, it is a relief to see a smart, well thought of, big budget epic film do well at the box office.
