Meet the Parents (2000)
The absolute funniest movie of 2000!
This is definitely THE movie highlight of 2000. I have not laughed to hard in a theater probably since There's Something About Mary or The Naked Gun. This movie has none of the gross-out humor found in TSAM, so I was able to recommend it to my parents who loved it as well. This is the kind of movie that brings everyone in the theater together through laughter. Everyone knows what it's like when they try to impress someone and fails totally. Ben Stiller's character is easy to relate to and the chaos that ensues will keep you laughing throughout the entire film. I won't give anything away about the film, but I will tell you that I laughed to tears all throughout the dinner scene. It's a great movie even the second time around and I'm anticipating the DVD release!
The Original Kings of Comedy (2000)
A portrayal of what today's society thinks is humorous
A lot of this movie was funny, but I was so disturbed by how intentionally racist these guys are. Half of the show was "White folks vs. Black folks." If these comedians want to continue rebuilding the wall of intolerance, then I hope that they aren't allowed to make any more movies. I was disturbed by what these men thought that they knew anything about me by the color of my skin. Leave the prejudice behind. One can still be funny talking about how they were raised or about how their family/friends act, but generalizing actions to an entire race is flat-out wrong. I am ashamed to say that I stayed throughout the whole movie. I am saddened by our society. And this sort of movie makes me lose hope in equality. Amen.
Jack Frost (1998)
The greatest premise for a movie ever!
At first look, this dead father turned snowman movie looked quite frightening. Instead, it is drop-dead hilarious! Especially when the mother cries hearing her ex-husband/snowman on the phone. This is some rich humor! If you want to see the original version, rent Jack Frost (1997). It's rated R, so it's not for the kiddies, but it's just as funny! This was the greatest premise for a movie ever! Who hasn't wanted their dead fathers to turn into snowmen? I wanted that every Christmas. Seriously, that's a frightening thought.
Me, Myself & Irene (2000)
Go only for the laughs
If you're looking for a moving plot or a romantic comedy, this isn't for you. Lots of cheap, but hysterical laughs. If you're into psychology, then you might be frustrated with the way the movie loosely tosses out terms like "schizo" and "multiple personality disorder" without addressing what they truly mean. But if you want to laugh like you may have at the other popular Farrelly brothers movies ("There's something about Mary," "Dumb and Dumber," and "Kingpin"), then this movie is definitely for you.
