Allen's Influence Present Throughout AP3

Most of the kids that saw Austin Powers 3 may never have seen a Woody Allen movie. Some adults that saw it may have recognized that scene that emulated Annie Hall, but the movie also borrows from some of Allen's lesser known movies.

A hand-drawn picture of Austin Powers was displayed in this movie, and it looked amazingly like Woody Allen. I dismissed this at first, though Powers had already jumped through a movie screen, coming to real life, alá Purple Rose of Cairo.

Myers does not as much borrow, than parody the scene from Annie Hall. Which one? Why, the scene where Alvy and Annie speak meaningless garbage, while their true thoughts are displayed on-screen through subtitles. So Austin Powers and his father (Michael Caine) are in a room full of American girls. Caine suggests that they speak in "English." While saying things that could only be discernable by Brits, subtitles appear, informing us Americans what they mean.

Finally when the plot ends happily, we feel as if we are watching Stardust Memories all over again. We are taken to the premiere where the actors have just finished watching Austin Powers 3. They applaud, then rise from their seats, just as in Stardust Memories. You can just feel Myers' overpowering affinity to Allen by paying homage to him, using this esoteric reference, while knowing it will fly over the heads of the majority of the crowd.

However, I believe some people noticed what was going on. The point of this message is to ask, were there any other Allen movies that were parodied?

Trite, predictable, already been done (Gwyneth Paltrow's Sliding Doors) and even been done this year (Bruce Willis' The Kid). Nicholas Cage doesn't have to swear every minute and doesn't have to be so easily convinced that married life is better than his single life within 2 hours and 3 minutes. However, I didn't walk out and it could have been worse.

Hollywood is full of trash and meaningless garbage, so I don't understand when something funny and interesting like Miss Congeniality comes out, they diss it. Entertainment Weekly said that Sandra Bullock should take some notes from Candice Bergen's stunning performance or something like that. Bergen (and her son) was the only part of the movie I didn't enjoy. Bergen overacted and had a melodramatic woe-is-me feel to her performance. I don't necessarily even like Sandra Bullock, but this performance was remarkable and I don't know why all the critics are snotty about this movie saying it isn't that great.
