Johnny Mnemonic (1995)
What a load of crap!
I saw this movie on television the other day and I didn't know much about it, I had heard about it when it had come out and thought it would be quite good because it had Keanu Reeves in it.....boy was I mistaken.
This could be a worthy contender for worst film ever. Everything about this film was terrible. The plot was okish, whereas the acting was just horrifying. I was astonished at the awful acting from Keanu Reeves and from all the other actors as well. The only actor who wasn't awful was Ice-T...which is saying something! The effects were crappy and god awful! This whole movie was just a load of garbage which I could barely even sit through.
No matter who you are stay away from this pile of garbage! This is an insult to movies everywhere and shouldn't be seen by anyone ever again.
A Better Way to Die (2000)
Authentic action thriller
I was pleasantly surprised with this flick, as it looked like a typical and un-original action film whereas it turned out to be fairly original and extremely entertaining. The central character is called "Boomer" and is played by Scott Wiper who is a very talented actor, director and writer and it seemed as though he put a lot of thought and effort into this movie, which really pays off. The opening scene is one of the best i've seen for a long time and is obviously influenced by the 'Quentin Tarantino' style of writing and film-making...which of course is a good thing. I was also surprised at the strength of the cast, which includes such hollywood names as Lou Diamond Phillips, Joe Pantoliano, Natasha Henstridge and Andre Braugher.
The highlight of this film has to be Andre Braugher's character 'Cleveland'. Cleveland is a fairly complex character and quite humerous, he's an assassin with a good heart and really makes the film much more entertaining (as do most of the characters). However, I was quite disappointed with some of this film as the big names such as Natasha Henstridge and Joe Pantoliano hardly get any screen time and I was very disappointed as I thought these actors/actresses would be significant characters, which they weren't. All in all 'A Better Way To Die" is an extremely entertaining action flick which takes you on a roller-coaster ride of action and surprises.
Bad Lieutenant (1992)
One of the most boring films ever.
I saw this film the other day on t.v and I had heard so much about it being thought provoking and dramatic...and I thoroughly enjoy heavy dramas however I was extremely disappointed with this film.
Many people have been writing about how amazing it is but all I found it to be was a corrupt cop (brilliantly played by Harvey Keitel) going about his daily life taking drugs, having sex with prostitutes etc. and briefly investigating a rape of a nun.
I don't recommend this film at all, but that might just be me. I seriously don't see how this can win awards and be called a masterpiece as I just find it tedious and strange.
Rapid Fire (1992)
An amazing action movie
I saw this once when I was about 10 years old and ever since that I have been a huge Brandon Lee fan, and since the first time I watched it I have seen this movie over and over again and I never seem to get bored of it. Everything about this film is good, especially the seemingly non-stop action and Brandon Lee's amazing martial arts skills which he displays very well. Another part of this movie is the incredible acting.....both from Brandon Lee and the supporting actor Powers Boothe(Mace Ryans) . This is one of those films that stick out and it's one of those films which you can just watch over and over again and never get bored of. When you see a normal action film you notice that the acting and the plot are rather weak however in Rapid Fire everything is strong and enjoyable....the plot, the acting and of course the action. Many people have said that Rapid Fire is slightly tacky and corny, well all I can say is what do you expect from an action movie made in 1992?
This is an amazing film which really sticks out and leaves a mark, and Brandon Lee is excellent and not to mention funny and his sarcasm and strange sense of humor is a fresh change from the usual wooden and hollow action heroes. This is one of my favorite movies of all time and if you're a Brandon Lee fan such as myself this is truly unmissable.
9 out of 10
Long zai jiang hu (1986)
A fair Hong Kong action flick
This is one of Brandon Lee's first movies and I have to say it is rather good for a Hong Kong action movie made in 1986. It has some good gun fight scenes however the unarmed combat is rather short and tedious, for example his short and forgettable fight with Bolo Yeung. If anyone is watching this movie just for Bolo Yeung you will be very disappointed due to the fact that Bolo Yeung is in this movie for about ten minutes at the most and his part in this movie is disappointing and forgettable.
