Pride and Prejudice (1995)
The Definitive Edition
Pride and Prejudice is one of my favourite books, one that I reread every few years. I am doing that right now, and since seeing this version of Pride and Prejudice, the actors have taken the place of the vague impressions of the characters I had in my own head (Elizabeth is pretty to look at -- but beautiful once she starts to speak; Mr. Darcy is devilishly handsome to look at -- but endearing only if he lets you know him) -- and now I hear their voices delivering the lines. They became the characters for me. I can watch this series again and again and want to crawl right into the screen and be a part of their world.
Misfits of Science: Deep Freeze (Pilot) (1985)
Guilty Pleasure -- not entirely without merit
I wish I hadn't taped over my copy of Misfits of Science. It was one of those shows that I never missed for mysterious pre-teen reasons all my own -- and it spoke to me and people like me. Now that I am grown, it would be a guilty pleasure to revisit this band of merry misfits and pretend I am one of them with a special talent that marks me forever as being different and wonderful. Yes, it is thoroughly cheesy and if you aren't twelve in 1985 you won't be able to watch it without laughing at it and yourself.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1980)
The best Ichabod ever.
I love this version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Jeff Goldblum is the best Ichabod Crane I have ever seen. Unfortunately, I have only seen it maybe every other Halloween, shown on various local stations that don't advertise their lineups in the TV guide. Also unfortunately, the film is aging poorly so every year it gets a little fuzzier. But it doesn't feel like Halloween until you see Goldblum's stammering and Adam's apple bobbing and the lovely romance emphasized in this version. I'm crossing my fingers that it will be remastered and put on DVD. Am I crazy? Yes, but I can hope.
