Lizzie McGuire (2001)
Pretty Decent Show
Lizzie McGuire is a funny and cool show. It is cute and silly. I like cartoon Lizzie, she is the coolest. I don't know about Miranda or Gordo.
Gordo's desire to be different makes his character look too overdone. By trying to be too different, his character looks kind of ridiculous sometimes. Miranda is cool. Maybe they could give her character a purpose beyond just being Lizzie's best friend.
Matt is funny, and does a good job of being an annoying little brother, but that episode where he gets on the bus and outwits the popular kid was just silly. Whatever he was saying that was supposed to sound cool, was not really that funny or insulting. If there is gonna be laughter, let there be actual jokes that are worth laughing at.
The airhead personality of some of these characters really makes the average 13 or 14 year old look a lot more silly and naive than they may really be. Disney could do some more shows that include decent adult story-lines. Disney has the interest of the 18 - 25 age group. I'm 22. However, ridiculous that may be, they should really capitalize on that.
Anyway, its different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story (2000)
It Wasn't That Bad, People ...
Although, I agree that Anne 3 strayed from the book series story line. Her character is really different. But I am not disappointed. Thsi has a lot of maturity. Finally, a movie that has adults behaving like civilized individuals with problems, and not overgrown children.
Actually, many may not agree with Sullivan's way of doing this but this is a movie, not a sequel to a book!!! Second of all, Anne and Gilbert have to grow up sometime. I mean, 15 years should have them being the same person. They are now together, so they are not gonna act all evasive and hard-to-get like in the past, because they are not running any longer and they know who they are. They are comfortable with themselves. They are adults; they are no longer children.
I mean really, how can you expect a 30 year old actress Megan Follows (who is a mother of 2), and who is already playing someone five years younger, to be anything like the Anne she was 15 years earlier at 17 and 19 years old? Yes, it would have been nicer to keep to the book series story line but people still need to remember that some of the most memorable things about the book series is the unique personality of Anne (which to me has not been sacrificed in Anne 3) which in some ways is outlandish.
In real life, someone of her character would not be as loved, I think, because the American society does not like difference unless it is "cool." Actually, her character would have been too much to handle for some people, and Ruby Gillis would have been popular with Gilbert. Gilbert would not be chasing after Anne, especially since the main reason why he likes her is because she is smart. Otherwise, the story indicates that she was ugly.
If you go into it looking for the third installation of the Book Series, you will be disappointed to some extent, but you can also go to appreciate the creative efforts of a filmmaker who is not just interested in recreating a book, but putting a lot of creativity into producing a film that is different. A filmmakers' job is not to reproduce; it is to produce something of an original, which is what Kevin Sullivan aptly did.
The End
Thousand Pieces of Gold (1990)
Amazing dramatic performances
One of the few movies i've seen where sex is not the bottom line or basis of the romance. It is tasteful and sweet in its depiction of an interracial relationship which develops around an actual friendship and ensues into a genuine emotional bond in the midst of semi-racially intolerant environment. The lead actor and actress produce an amazing performance of a romantic chemistry that is set in the bounds of respect, selfnessness, kindness, and deep affection.
I give it a thumbs up, way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay up.
