The Meeting (1999)
4 business execs try to remain 'civilized' in the savage jungle of corporate America...
When four execs can't get down to business in their meeting, one of them suggests desperate measures. Inspired by Lord of the Flies, he produces a small wind-up puppy from his briefcase. The concept is simple; whomever holds the puppy may speak. In the end though, anarchy rears it's ugly head and the fur (and sweet & sour sauce) flies. Very funny.
12:01 PM (1990)
Myron Castleman is reliving the same hour again and again and again....
I originally saw this dramatic short as an interstitial subject on TMC in the early '90s and fell instantly in love with it.
The plot involves a mild-mannered businessman named Myron Castleman, played with exquisite pathos by Kurtwood Smith (That 70s Show). Myron is the only one who is aware that time keeps on bouncing back to 12:01PM after only an hour passes. Desperate to find an end to this, he seeks out a scientist who has predicted this phenomenon. Trying time and time again to contact him, Myron's worst fear is confirmed. It will never stop.
Kurtwood Smith's portrayal of the temporally doomed Myron Castleman is one of the best of his career. Smith is probably better known to cinephiles as the heartless criminal Clarence Boddicker from the movie Robocop.
Night Orchid (1997)
Slow moving but entertaining murder/mystery set in FL...
I had the pleasure of working on this film as a boom operator while I was attending film school in Orlando, so my review might be a little biased. The plot involves a strange wanderer named, Clay, who is a new arrival in the sleepy town of Ochopee, FL. Clay has a unique gift. He can 'see' acts of violence from the past as if they were happening before his eyes. When he meets a beautiful but aloof young lady he must unravel a 40 year old mystery to save her. There's a twist at the end that is reminiscent of Hitchcock. All in all, despite the low budget look of this film, it delivers some good twists and an interesting plot. If you see this movie in a video store, give it a chance. (and send me an E-mail, I've been looking for it on video for years)
