Roberts is awesome as a charming, and straight forward lady who won't take no crap from anybody
4 June 2000
Erin Brockovich was many things. A good movie, yes. A rip off, yes. Hyped up, uh-huh.

Even though you've seen many commercials with Julia Roberts in tight clothes, and comments such as "Roberts in her finest role!" and "Awesome movie! A must-see!", you really have to see it for yourself, and judge it upon your own heart felt opinion.

I liked it because the scenery was good, and Julia Roberts was awesome, but that's about it. The plot wasn't wonderful (which is a big part of a good movie).

Sure, Kevin Kline is good, but the movie is not worth it
4 June 2000
With a title like "I Love You to Death", it's bound to be a bad movie. Kevin Kline, Tracy Ullman, and River Phoenix are good, but it's not their best work.

Basically, a nice woman tries to get her Italian husband killed after he cheats on her numerous times.

Pure screwball.

I'd suggest renting it if your crazy uncle Roger was over, but otherwise, you probably won't love this movie to death.

Boring, yet fun "TBS Saturday afternoon" sort of movie
4 June 2000
Madonna is sure flamboyant in this movie, but can she act? And a better question, is the movie even that great? The best answers for both would probably be "no", but you may care to differ.

The plot is an average one of a comedy romance type. I shouldn't waste valuable text space to describe it.

Summing it up, if you're a big Madonna fan, you'll probably enjoy, otherwise, skip it.

A fun dose of Americana
4 June 2000
Meet Me in St. Louis was one of my favourite movies as a kid. It's about an American family that lives in St. Louis and awaits the World's Fair (all except for the father).

I loved all the singing, and the different situations. I also liked how they showed how the seasons passed.

The best part of the movie was probably "The Trolley Scene" or when the family had a party.

Of course, this movie sure showcases Judy Garland and shows how much of a gem she is, but it also is wonderful for all the other actors, as they are just as great.

Meet Me in St. Louis is a fun song and dance movie.

Susan and Natalie: A Great Team
21 May 2000
This movie wasn't anything extraordinarily special. Although it was something to warm people's hearts.

The story starts off with Susan Sarandon (Adele August), the kooky mom, and Natalie Portman (Ann August) getting away from their old life in their old town in Boringsville, USA. When you see the expression on Natalie's face when the camera just goes on her, you know that for the rest of the movie you will not be disappointed at any time with her performance. You can see everything in her eyes. As for Susan, she's amazing as well, with so much experience inside herself, she embodies wisdom, and never forgets to have fun with her character. Anyway, they're driving off to start a new life. That's from when they start the story. It's a story of ups and downs between a smart girl and her... well, mom that is a bit... crazy. Mothers and daughters everywhere should see this movie together.

I think the best thing in this picture is the acting, but when you walk out of that theatre after the movie, you will get that Sunday afternoon good feel of cinematic warmness.

Robert Benigni shines
21 May 2000
How many movies have we seen that have taken our human spirit a knotch higher? Many. How many movies have we seen that makes us feel good, and make us laugh consistently? Many. How many movies have we seen that showcase a great Italian charismatic persona that has the show buy his rings the whole time? Maybe not so many...

Robert Benigni wrote, directed, and starred in a movie about a big hearted man who always looks on the bright side of things, even when he's in a rotten concentration camp.

The main jewel is Benigni, but the rest of the film is good too.

Cute for Winnie-the-Pooh fans
20 February 2000
This was a cute movie for kids and fans of the cartoon character. I could actually watch it without becoming bored which is a plus.

The story line was pretty good, yet not too original. It made you feel warm inside which is what all Disney movies do.

The songs were good, and everyone loves The Tigger Song especially. A good movie for the family.

The Rainmaker (1997)
A good lawyer movie yet subtle
20 February 2000
I found this movie to be the best lawyer movie I've seen. Usually, there's so much talk I don't understand and It's boring, so I don't pay attention. It wasn't like that for The Rainmaker.

I think Matt Damon was perfect for this part because he seems to have the nice, simple look to him which his character was. I think someone else could have pulled off his character, but for some reason it just suited him.

One major reason I really enjoyed this movie was because Rudy was a hardworking under dog (which I can relate to). And besides, who doesn't like those sort of people?

It would have been better if it weren't so damn subtle, but hey, you can't get everything your way.

Heathers (1988)
Dark, Realistic, and Provoking
20 February 2000
Another movie about the popular crowd and how they're so bitchy, but it's not the same as the others. First of all, Veronica hangs out with those popular girls, hates them, and then meets this guy who provokes her to kill them. It's crazy how Christian Slater was so subtley provocative and attractive, but keep in mind, this was right before Pump Up The Volume (where he becomes a leader, as in Heathers). The movie becomes darker and darker and then it sorta blows up in your face (no pun intended). Good, though.

A Teenage Comedy that will only be liked by teens... and Fonzee fans
22 January 2000
I wanted to go see this movie because they said it would be a romantic comedy, and of course starring teen celebrities, which is pretty uncommon to have a "real romantic movie" with teen scene actors in it.

I came out thinking it was okay. I mean, I was happy they were together... again, but did I really believe they were in love? No. Freddie Prinze Jr. did well with the first scene when he saw Julia Stiles for the first time, but after that I just couldn't believe their acting.

For real romantics, I don't recommend it. But if you're a fan of Freddie Prinze Jr., Julia Stiles, or Henry Winkler, there's a chance you might.

A breathtaking movie that will be talked about a lot
6 January 2000
American Beauty was (in my opinion) the best movie of the fabulous year that was 1999. It was a really good mix of acting, realism, and... beauty.

A lot of people say that it's about a white picket fence neighbourhood in a perfect town doesn't hold what it seems. But to me, it wasn't about that... the movie's about waking up, having your heart lead you and not having your career, your looks, or your money lead you. Lester Burnham used to live a very happy life that was alive with his wife and daughter, but somehow it disapeared through the mist of what a lot of us can relate to.

I think that all the performances in this movie were grade A. Especially Wes Bentley who played the confident and already awake Ricky Fitts.

I don't want to give away the whole plot, so I just think you should go out and see it for yourself. The pity is it isn't playing in theatres and it's way better to see this movie on the big screen.

American Beauty - American Realism.

Toy Story 2 (1999)
8/10
Fun for the whole family
6 January 2000
Toy Story 2 was indeed a good movie with a lot of wit, a good plot, and loveable characters. Some people even said It was better than the first. I thought It mesured up to the first except for one minor detail: the plot in the 2nd is somehow familiar to the plot in the 1st movie. There's just something about that.

Other than that, everyone will like this movie because it has the basis of a child's movie (for children), the humor (for teens) and the good feel (for adults).

I reccomend you go see it with your family.

My favourite old movie!
6 January 2000
The Matchmaker is a true gem. It's not a drama, but it sure is a lot of fun to watch! I loved the way Dolly Levi was such a fun persuading money loving woman who you can't resist to like. I also loved the way she talked to the camera!

The plot was twisty and it was fun. My favourite part of the movie was when Cornelius and Barnaby were hiding under the table and in the closet.

All of the cast are admirably good. This movie probably wouldn't win any Oscar, but if you're up for some light hearted movie making, see this movie!

Movie with blood, guts, ... and Antonio Banderas
27 November 1999
How bad can a movie get? No, a better question - How boring can a movie get? My friends took me to this movie, and believe me, I would have rather seen ANYTHING except for this. The story is about a guy that is picked to be the 13th warrior to battle "dog men that are cannibals" in an Arabian setting. It has a lot of gore, but it's just mind boring. I don't know many people who would want to see this movie.

Film's Message: Speak Your Mind
27 November 1999
This is probably my favourite movie. Why? Maybe it's because I'm a teen, maybe it's because I believe in speaking up for what I believe in, or maybe because the film simply moved me.

Maybe it's all of the above.

This film is about a shy teen that moves to a small town from New York City, and has a radio type of device to keep in touch with his friends back in NYC. Instead, he decides to use the device as a pirate radio station where he spews spontaneous comments, responds to people's letters and speaks his mind about the school he goes to. Of course, the parents and teachers don't like this, so they try to do something about it.

This movie was unfairly compared to Heathers, which it should not have been. Clearly, Pump Up the Volume is a better movie.
