Some Nudity Required (1998)
Excellent Documentary Look at B Movies
The documentary offers an inside view at the making of low grade sexploitation and slasher films. It features many clips of films in the genre and as well as interviews with stars and directors. The Director of this film is a sound worker who has done a number of the actual films. She is a victim of sexual abuse as a child and weaves her tale lightly into the movie. The film has a feminist "awareness" but is not a feminist indictment of the genre because it is too honest the director herself uses MANY graphic film clips so much that this documentary becomes a part of genre that she wishes to criticize! In fact this was probably done on purpose because as the interviews reveal T & A and violence sell. The interviews with directors and stars (including Roger Corman) are light, Frank and very honest. Some of the clips show the directors working styles and are interesting and sometimes hilarious. Topics include Objectification and film, The hollywood system and the pressure on the actors to go along with the B movie Directors whims, The directors thoughts on the films, psychological links between Fear, sex and violence, Sexual abuse and sexual ambivalence, and more. The film is a "must see" for B Movie fans with an interest in the film industry, film students, and Feminists. Overall it is a highly enjoyable (but Graphic) informative piece of work.
Mesa of Lost Women (1953)
This movie is so bad that it is hilarious!
I just saw this gem on the big screen and it is terrible! The audience laughed with glee. It has what may be in serious contention for the worst sound track of all time! A constant Mexican Guitar that plays really obnoxiously for dreadfully long periods. There is one scene that is supposed to be scary but is very funny. Some Spider Women and midget Spider men are sneaking up on the films heroes and suddenly someone turns to look in their direction and the scantily clad spider women and midgets have to scamper to hide and it is just an outrageous sight seeing these grotesque midget men scampering around for cover...if you love horrible B films then you have a winner here!
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Excellent Film! Only reason not a 10 is that I think it will lose alot when it is on DVD or Video
This is an excellent movie! What stands out for me about this film is its lack of a soundtrack! "Normal" films have music playing at the beginning and and end of the film. The music helps you drift into a fantasy world and then gently brings you back. This film lacks a soundtrack to help smooth out the transfer of realities. I don't want to dicuss the ending of the film but let me just say that the lack of a soundtrack at the end of the film makes it unique. The Only reason I didn't give this film a 10 is that I don't think it will transfer well onto the home video market...If you are going to see it...catch it on the big screen!
