Kôkaku kidôtai (1995)
One of the best Anime movies ever!
When I first saw this film, I didn't like it, because I found it very confusing. For a long time I left the video of it on my shelf and didn't touch it. But about a year after buying it, I decided to watch it again for some reason... I loved it the second time around! I understood a lot more of the plot this time around and I appreciated the detail and effort that had gone into the animation and artwork in it. This really is one of the most spectacular animated films I have seen and once you understand the storyline properly, you will like it. If you have only seen this film once and didn't like it, then I definitely recommend that you watch it again. The DVD version of this film is even better too...
The Corruptor (1999)
Less story than Replacement Killers, but a better storyline.
Contrary to many other peoples opinions, I loved The Replacement Killers. I was really looking forward to seeing Chow Yun Fats 2nd Hollywood film and I wasn't disappointed. It concentrates on the storyline more than the action (like R.K), but that is cool as well. Chow Yun Fat is as cool as ever and seems to have a better grasp of the English language than in R.K too and has much more dialogue. Mark Wahlberg is decent too, but personally I think Chow blows him off the screen. Be warned though, there are some disturbing moments in this film, so if you are easily offended you may want to steer clear of it...
The Replacement Killers (1998)
Great action
Regardless of what many other people say, if you like action then you should check this out. Granted, the film is not going to win any awards for storyline, in fact the storyline is fairly weak, but in terms of action this is one of the most adrenaline filled action packed movies I have ever seen. I am a big Chow Yun Fat fan and although this is not on par with some of his HK films, it is better than the debuts of many other HK actors/directors (John Woo and THAT terrible Van Damme film anyone?). Mira Sorvino is a great co-star too. Overall, if you are looking for an action packed roller coaster of a film then check this out, but if you prefer to have a little more substance in your movies then you should check out The Corruptor which places more focus on the storyline.
