Set It Off (1996)
this movie shows us the possibility of what we might do
This movie gives us a graphic insight into the possibility of what people might do under certain circumstances and situations. These young ladies' misfortunes in life have driven them to do something that otherwise would not have entered their minds: robbing a bank. Their participation in this criminal activity is a crying-out against the evils of their society and environment. In other words, they are saying "because of what you did to me...this is how I will respond". Anyone who has seen this film honestly knows that what they're doing is just as morally wrong as what has happened to each of them, but, for some deep-seated reason, we find ourselves rooting for them - even hoping that they get away with it. Each character reveals a problematic area in our working society: unfair employment and termination practices, inadequate childcare options, hindrances and distractions of the ghetto and other social plights and dilemmas.
We may not agree with what these young ladies are doing but somehow we understand. (please see this movie...)
Strange Days (1995)
a movie made before its time...
"Strange Days" was a movie made before its time (I know that it is a movie based on the future... that's not what I mean...) I mean its really before its time! "Strange Days" is too right on target, too plausible, too believable for alot of people right now. Looking at what man is able to do RIGHT NOW with computers and other technology is enough to scare anyone into asking themselves "when will it become TOO much?" "Strange Days" makes us ask ourselves that question and you know what? Virtual technology may even be more advanced than how it was portrayed in the movie. This is, without a doubt, one of the most emotionally intense movies I have ever seen. I was dumbfounded at certain points (the rape scene of course). Society better brace itself for any technology that even resembles this movie.
This movie is a "wonderful" slap in the face that our worse times are ahead. Right now, crack-cocaine dominates but its been labeled as the "poor man's crack". Virtual addiction will have NO boundaries, NO prejudices and NO respect for its victims.
If you want to be enlightened as well as awakened about our future, you need to see this movie.
