The Gilded Age (2022)
Better than I initially thought
After much anticipation, after the first episode, I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it but happily I have.
I immediately recognized Bertha's story as a retelling of the Alva Vanderbilt bid to break into NY society and it turned out to be fun to see it in the flesh after reading about it for so long.
I'm hoping very much that Julian Fellowes won't parallel her daughter Consuelo's story but it seems to be going that way. I've always had a soft spot for Consuelo Vanderbilt.
Marion's story is basically Sense & Sensibility with Mr Raikes being Willoughby but I can forgive that. Meryl Streep's youngest is fabulous as Marion and I love her loyalty to her father. I hope in the end he will be shown to not be the villain.
The below stairs stories have good old Downton intrigue and though not quite as compelling, still great to watch.
The gem is Miss Scott's story however. This is a side of NY I've never seen and I have completely enjoyed it!
The Mandalorian (2019)
It's a toss up
Some episodes are interesting, some totally pointless and seem to be pandering to fans without moving the story along at all.
It will hinge on the last episode of the season, I guess.
There seems to be more money spent on effects than in storytelling or world building which is sad. But it's Disney so what was I expecting
Ocean's Eight (2018)
Interesting idea but not as intricately woven
Pretty simple story, a few small surprises but this lacks the genius of the other three. Fun to watch the cast who did a great job with what they were given but no real wait-a-minute moment as 11 -13 had. Fairly predictable but fun. Helena Bonham Carter is especially good as the slightly ditzy had-been designer. Great to see the art at the Met. I totally didn't recognize Rihanna until the dress up. Again, fun summer movie but don't expect too much.
Fixer Upper (2013)
Love this show
Great show! They do awesome work, the banter is fun, the reruns are watchable.
The Harp house was incredible!! Most people would never have seen the potential in that house!!
I don't get the complaints of a one trick pony, each house is unique with its own set of problems.
It's a renovation show that isn't dry and boring! Chip reminds me of the guys I grew up knowing in our family woodworking business. It's fun to see the kids. It's fun to see their house. It's fun to see the client's response. I love how they stick to their community and invite people to the farm.
It's a fun show!
Inconceivable (2005)
I liked it
I never watch network TV anymore. Usually watch movies but stumbled upon this as I was looking for info on Hurricane Rita.
It got my attention and kept it the whole hour. I actually didn't want it to end. A big part is because I'm a fan of Ming Na.. I recognized her face and voice but didn't place her until looking here tonight. Thanks IMDb!
The issues they are tackling are either a minefield or a goldmine, time will tell. But I'm glad someone is addressing them. Oh, I'm from the Bible Belt, it didn't bother me.
I'll be watching again to see how it pans out.
