Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)
Great!
Despite owning this film on video, I've only had time to watch it about three or four times over the last couple of months. However, I can honestly say that this film is one of my all time favourites, each time I watch it it gets better.
The film has some really nice touches, like when Martin takes a picture of the baby with his spy camera. The cast is also great, there's some great chemistry between Cusack and Aykroyd (spelling?) and Joan Cusack is hilarious (occasionally).
Overall, I give this film 7 out of 10.
The Adventures of the American Rabbit (1986)
Well, The Chocolate Moose was good.
Imagine turning the American national anthem into a cartoon. Throw in a couple of cute animals, some terrible puns and a pair of roller skates and you'd find yourself with almost an exact replica of this film.
I remember seeing this when I was younger; I made my Mother rent it from the video shop about 5 times. The story itself isn't too bad, it's just that any Marxists watching would certainly have something to complain about.
If you don't like America you won't like this film.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Leisure Rules!
Although the film's characters are based purely on stereotypes, Ferris Bueller's Day Off is one of the best films I've ever seen.
Everyone can relate to at least one of the characters, be it the depressed Cameron or smarty-pants Ferris. Throw in some clever jokes and a couple of situations that we'd all like to find ourselves in and John Hughes has made the perfect teen-flick.
This has obviously been the inspiration for more recent films, 'Ten Things I Hate About You' works on similar conventions. I could almost guarantee that if this film was re-released it would rake it in at the box offices.
L.A. Story (1991)
Steve Martin at his best.
This film is one of the most original and memorable that I've seen. The fact that Steve Martin wrote this as well as starred in it shows just how talented he is, this is much better than his newer films such as 'The Man With Two Brains' or 'House sitter'.
The story is interesting and flows smoothly, it's likely that you'll be interested until the end. Nice touches such as the talking road sign, the most amusing way to answer the telephone ever and some clever gags make this film both enjoyable and unique.
