Ray Donovan (2013)
Stereotypical
Its like a cheap version of The Town set in SoCal. I'm halfway through season one and I am stopping here. Elliot Gould's character is the worst stereotype, but you've got Jewish lawyers, black rappers, snobby rich people, and the Carmela-Soprano-light mom - its just too hammy to watch.
Shahs of Sunset (2012)
Why I like this show
I am addicted to this show. It is an interesting look into a culture that is private and hidden from a white man like me.
I've dealt with Persians in my career and they are always motivated and intelligent people, but Shah's of Sunset Persians are f___ing over the top crazy. I hope their behavior is overly dramatized because they have cameras in their faces, because there are some serious personal problems on parade here.
Aside from that this is a fresh concept and non-stop action that comes across as genuine.
As another review wrote, its is a train wreck, and we all like to watch train wrecks, right?
Looking forward to Season 3 - if it happens.
The Ultimate Gift (2006)
Ugh! Boring Movie
I should have figured that the small number (70) of IMDb votes were from a select crowd of early movie viewers with a bias towards this kind of film. Normally I would have walked out, except that I had roped a friend along to see it and he did not initially express any negative reactions. Later I found out that he was just being polite.
Much of the acting was stiff. Stereotypical representations of rich people and homeless people. Even the one genuine performance was lost in this disjointed production. Christian references that were never explained in context, but just enough to get the "Fox Faith" production approval. All in all a bad movie. I am sorry I paid $10 to see it. Wait for the DVD if you must.
The Puffy Chair (2005)
Should be rated "V"
Simply put, this is a good film if your venue is a small screen or film festival. At home with the projector, it is going to be difficult to watch if you have any tendencies to motion sickness. The camera work is horrible! I cannot believe that Netflix is hyping it so much. I did manage to watch to the end by keeping focused away from the screen. The story is a realistic and personal, as if you are watching real life, and I could personally relate to it. They got there money's worth for certain. "The Puffy Chair" should come with a "V" rating for Vertigo (or Vomit). 7 stars for content, 2 for viewing experience, total of 5 stars.
Trapped in Paradise (1994)
This Movie Was SO Bad I could not watch more than 20 minutes
I really like nearly all of Nic Cage's films, and enjoy Dana Carvey and John Lovitz also. I expected the film to be at least entertaining with such high quality actors and comedians. But after not laughing for the first ten minutes and groaning for the next ten minutes, I had to shut off my VCR. This movie does not even deserve to be rewound!
American Beauty (1999)
This movie blows
me away. What is says about beauty in the unusual and the pursuit of joy is extremely powerful. All of the performances were outstanding. After seeing this movie and comparing it to my other "10" movie votes, I want to give American Beauty an "11".
