Forever Young (2013)
Interesting "experiment"
First of all, I want to say that I'm 50 years old. This show has 5 people over 70 with 5 people under 30, so I fall right in the middle.
Last night, I woke up during the night and couldn't sleep. I turned on TV Land and finished watching whatever sitcom was on. Then this show came on. I noticed through the on screen TV guide that this was episode #2. SInce I like watching shows from episode #1, I went to on demand to see if episode #1 was on there. Sure enough, it was. (I LOVE on demand. It has saved me a few times. 1000 stars for on demand.) So I watched the 1swt episode.
OK, here are the spoilers: The guests come in the house. First the seniors, then the younger crowd.
The first task is they participate in a game show. The game show segment was good, but I had a minor issue with it. Without giving too much away, listen to what happens with the sexting question, then the Jackie O question and tell me if that was fair.
I realize that they edit these shows quite a bit, but from the finished product, it seems the younger people seem more friendly than the older people. I won't give anything away, but watch the interaction in the kitchen after the game show.
Outside of the game show issue, I do like this show and plan to keep watching it.
Southern Fried Stings (2010)
What told me that this show was FAKE
What does the name TRU TV conjure up? Let's stop and think of it for a moment. Does it bring up thoughts of SCRIPTED series trying to pose as real ;ife situations? It sure as H E double hockey stick doesn't for me.
Now on to Southern Fried STings. One episode had a either a DJ or talk show host (I can't remember which) at a radio station getting threats against his life. OK, so far so good. The ITSY BITSY problem I had was when they showed the frequency of the radio station: 90.4 (or something where the number to the right of the decimal was an EVEN number). Here inn the United States that # to the right is ALWAYS an odd number (1,3,5,7 or 9). When I saw that any hope that this was a real deal flew right out the window.
Someone on another show on this sight said "The '50s was the Golden Age of TV. We are now in the Dark Ages." I completely agree. Thank Goodness for the Internet!!!
The Breakfast Club (1985)
A wasted 2 and a half hours of my life
Back in 1985, I went to see this hunk of junk with a friend of mine. It was like 20 min into the movie. We missed the beginning, so when I saw it the first time, I thought I missed the point.
Fast forward a couple of months later and I catch it on HBO and watched it again. This movie is EXTREMELY boring. I wasted 2 and a half hours of my life on this pointless movie.
I graduated in 1981, and I ***HATED**** high school (yes, even more than I hated this movie) and the ending of this movie where everyone stops short of hugging everyone else and sing Koom bye ya (however you spell that) is SOOOOOO phony in my experience that it makes the old Roadrunner cartoon more believable
Cellular (2004)
Basically good movie
There are spoilers in this post, but I will CLEARLY mark them.
I have to say that this movie is pretty good. I saw it in the theater 4 years ago when it came out, and watched it today on TBS. I usually HATE watching movies on regular TV because of how they change the language (i.e. "Shoot instead of that other S word or "Gosh Darn" instead of....well, you get it), but since I had seen it already, I figure "why not?". I had forgotten the twist so in essence I was watching it again for the first time.
SPOILERS****SPOILERS****spoilers****SPOILERS****SPOILERS When I watched this back in 2005 and now, I forgot that it had nothing to do with drugs (which I thought it had to do).
I'm going to report this as a goof, but in several scenes, you see Ryan on the phone, listening to what is going while the kidnapper is talking to Jessica. Now the problem is, the kidnapper is barely talking above a whisper and (I would guess) 15 feet away from the phone. Now with these 2 factors, can a regular phone pick that up? I think not! Also, when Ryan is at a stop light and the car pulls up next to him, blaring music. The music wouldn't be THAT loud on the phone that Jessica was using. In fact, the digital compression would make playing music hard, if not impossible (I know> I tried to copy some music using my phone and it didn't come out).
Now, my "laugh out loud" moment of the movie: Mooney tips over that table with the fishbowl on it along with the fish. Then in the next scene, you see the fish, very much alive in a glass. I thought that was a nice touch (being a guy who HATES killing anything)!
Final Destination 3 (2006)
Some holes in the movie that I saw
This review contains a few spoilers.
This movie was OK, but i found several technical errors with the cheerleaders.
1. They are supposed to be the "cool" girls in school. If so, why didn't they have their Ipods with them. Second, why did they pick an oldie moldie song from the 70s to listen to when they looked at the CDs? Surely, there were newer CDs there. (OK....maybe they said something about the music, so this MIGHT be a moot point) 2. They turn up the thermostat a few degrees. OK, but why did the voltage for the tanning beds jump 100 volts? Wouldn't the beds have a switch to cut the power if too much voltage was getting through? Seems strange to me 3. The voltage is slowly going up. OK, but wouldn't the bed have been getting hotter and hotter causing discomfort a lot sooner than the movie let on? Maybe this is a movie where you need to leave your brain in Park and just watch it for the gore.
Love Actually (2003)
Love (stinks) Actually
* SPoiler inside* It takes a pretty awful movie to get me to walk out of it in the middle of it. The only 2 movies I gave up on are Clueless and this one. Thank God I didn't pay for either. Love Actually is SOOOOO sappy that when I finally got up (when that guy show that girl the placards saying that he loved her then as he walked away she runs up to him and kisses him) I had a sickening sweet taste in my mouth. I sat outside in the lobby for 30-45 minutes while my friend stayed back and watched the rest. 7.9 rating?!?!? What version of Love Actually did you people see???
Detention: The Siege at Johnson High (1997)
See a comedy after this film
SPOILERS * SPOILERS * SPOILERS
I'm writing this right after I saw this SAD (as in emotional) film. The scene where Frankie sees Travis dead REALLY got me crying and seeing Travis' mom asking anyone who'll listen if they saw her son REALLY had the tears rolling down my cheeks, especially after knowing that she will never see her son alive again I HOPE I NEVER FEEL THAT TYPE OF PAIN!
I was watching the commentary when they said about Jason that he was a victim himself that society just cast aside. One line in the commentary really hit home for me: "You wonder what could of == what kind of intervention could of stopped this from happening before it happened".
Also, for those of you who didn't hear the commentary, this was based on an incident that happened in Northern California on May 1, 1992. I'm planning on heading to the library to look this up in the newspaper.. According to the commentary, this happened during the week of the riots in South Central L.A. That's why we didn't hear of this.
I need a Farley Brothers comedy after this one!
Phenom (1993)
I miss this show
I thought me and a friend were the only one who liked this show. I thought all girls were cute, but the thing that drew me the most was how over the top Brian Doolan was. I remember one episode where he was say how his mom walked in on him when he was REALLY enjoying a magazine's pictorial. I'm laughing right now thinking about that scene. I wish this series would be release on DVD or tape. I would buy it. Or re-broadcast
Domestic Disturbance (2001)
A predictable movie
**CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS** When I watch a movie, I like to predict certain things: When the characters are having their last kiss, when the final fight will be, even how long the movie will be from any point. If I guess correctly, then the movie is predictable. I don't watch many movies either. I saw EVERYTHING coming from this movie, which is a disappointment. The acting was well done, but it's the same tired plot: Dad and mom divorce, mom gets creepy boyfriend (who becomes her husband) [Incidentally the part where I came in the theater] whose idea of fun is belittling and terrorizing his stepson and killing people, son sees hubby kill a guy and tries to tell his mom and dad neither which believe him. Anyway, that's all I'll get into as I don't want to see this post get deleted. Save your money for something else. I wish I did.
