Un muchacho como yo (1968)
Very touching movie!
This movie is an example that even the more banal themes can be converted into a great show. It tells the story of a middle class young man whose only passion in life is music. The movie is obviously purposed to serve as an advertising platform for the songs of Palito Ortega but the story slowly develop into a drama as true as life itself. The young rocker must decide between the woman he loves, his family or his passion for music, which one should he keep?
You will find some spoilers in this film but they don't diminish its intensity. Not one of the greatest latin movies of all time but definitively one worth to see.
Windtalkers (2002)
Simply Disappointing
John Woo messed up this film. The plot of this film could have given a much better movie, the director doesn't seems to catch the real human drama of those soldiers fighting in the pacific theater during WW2.
Also, this film intends to be pacifist; just like every war movie from "Saving private Ryan" by telling us that in a war everybody dies sooner or later and maybe that's true but come on let's have some originality. Another aspect that goes against the film are the special effects. Everybody knows that john Woo is known for the huge explosions depicted in his films but sometimes they're too much and this is one of those occasions. In this movie you'll see many times a hand grenade explode like an A-bomb or something like that.
In Short this film could have been a much better movie.
The Yards (2000)
Very Boring
I've found this movie slow, very slow indeed. The plot could result in a better movie but it's saved by the remarkable Joaquin Phoenix's performance as the turned-down lover, maybe he got his role in this film because of his experience in "Gladiator" as a not corresponded lover.
Roots (1977)
the greatest mini series ever!!!!!!
I was just a kid when I first saw this mini series and it taught me people used to enslave each other no many time ago. It taught me you never have to give up, it taught me many things, that had shaped my life on many ways. I'll never forget it...
The Champ (1979)

María Candelaria (Xochimilco) (1944)
The Best Mexican Film ever made
There's no doubt about it, Pedro Almendáris and Dolores del Rio are the most known couple of Mexican actors. They filmed many movies together and gave us some of the best performances that any latin actors would ever give. They in conjunction with Pedro "El Indio" Fernández made this movie the best Latin (or Mexican) film ever done. A love story in times of war and hate, this film get deeply into what the Mexican culture was at the beginning of this century.
Un pasaje de Ida (1988)
A true Story
Although there were previous attempts to produce movies in the Dominican Republic, this is the one that made that dream come true. This is the first movie completely made by dominicans and this movie open the minds of independent dominican film makers. Even now the country's film industry is in it's beginnings and some good films have been made but, definitively, this is the best dominican movie ever done.
Based on a true story, this movie recreate the death of tens of men and women while they were trying to flee the country on a merchant boat running away from the realities of their poverty world. A world that is still there.
Forrest Gump (1994)
Life is like a box of chocolates
This movie is my all-time favorite. The plot, the making, the actors. I just find everything on it is just great.
Gone with the Wind (1939)
One of my all-time favorites
When I first saw this movie, on its 50th aniversary re-release (1989), I was amazed about its strength. I used to listen to people talk about it but didn't relalize until I see it for myself. What else can I say that it has not been said before. This movie is just excellent.
