Autumn in New York (2000)
Zzzzzz.... What a stinker!
This movie was so incredibly horrible that after seeing it, I stood outside and warned people not to waste their money on it. It was so bad, and so boring that I actually found myself saying "Please just go ahead and die!". At one point one of the characters delivers a line like "What would I have done if I'd never met you?" and I almost shouted "YOU WOULD BE DEAD AND I'D BE AT HOME!!!" I expected much better, especially from Winona Ryder; I'm usually a fan of hers. However, she frankly stinks in this movie. Richard Gere does nothing to make it better. It is *very* hard to believe that his character is 48.
I was expecting a wonderful chick flick (I went with my mommy) along the lines of "Return to Me", but instead was assaulted with "artsy" drivel. There seemed to be quite a few shots of diagonal beads and reflections through sweaty glass that did absolutely nothing to make the movie enjoyable. There were no memorable lines, no good supporting characters (the gay-male-friend had potential, but we didn't get to see him for more than 30 seconds.), and it didn't even come close to making me cry.
****SPOILER****
I clapped when she died. And what was with that doctor? No professional would act that way.... I don't get it.
The music was great, though. Since "City of Angels" I've been a big fan of Gabriel Yared. Very pretty... Get the soundtrack if you're interested, but don't bother seeing the film.
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
pretty pretty movie.... very good.
As a long-time fan of both Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, I was more excited about this movie than I have been about any other in a long time. For the most part, it lived up to what I expected, although it isn't at the top of my list (that spot is still reserved for Edward Scissorhands). Like many people, I was a bit dissapointed with Christina Ricci's part in the film, but I still have a lot of confidence in her as an actress. I saw this movie with my mom, and for more than half of it she was curled up in a little ball in her seat, griping my arm so hard that it lost circulation. I didn't think it was exactly scary, but that might be because I was busy ooh-ing and aah-ing about all the cool-looking things going on. The torture chamber scene was absolutely gorgeous (no, I'm not Mz. Death Girl) and the rest of the movie had a beautiful dreamlike quality.
Mystery Men (1999)
I expected better....
I thought Mystery Men was an almost complete disappointment. It just wasn't funny enough to make up for how BAD it was. Even Paul Reubens was annoyingly bad. I mean, a character called "The Spleen" who farts a lot? Give me a break. The only people I know who would find this funny are 5 year old boys. What a waste of time..
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Woooo... cool movie
After watching the "Scream" movies, I started working my way through the horror section of the video store. "Nightmare on Elm Street" is definitely one of the scariest and most entertaining I've seen. It also has one of the coolest death scenes ever: a bed eats him.... yummy.
