All That (1994)
Great show in the early days...
Back when I was in 4th grade, this show came on and was the funniest thing I'd ever seen...literally a Saturday Night Live for kids that at the same time was original and very funny. This show was especially a spotlight for the talents of Kenan and Kel, who were very talented actors at so young an age...often you'd see the hilarious antics of "Repair Man-man-man-man-man" (which to this day makes me bust my gut), "Ishbu the Foreign Exchange Student", and "Good Burger" (which was so popular that it spawned a movie).
It's a real shame that Nickelodeon hasn't released this show on DVD, since I'd be glad to buy it for the memories alone, especially since the modern Nickelodeon has become a pale imitation of its original self.
That being said, I'm actually very surprised to learn that it's still on the air, since this show is definitely reaching an old enough age. But in 1995, when it was brand new, this was with "The Simpsons" as one of the best shows on TV.
Lights Fantastic (1942)
Classic, Hysterical Cartoon!
A mix of real-life footage of New York and cartoon footage of the typical 1940s advertising signs coming to life, Lights Fantastic is a classic cartoon.
From such great gags such as the free eye test ("if you can read this, you are Chinese"), to the Chinatown bus carried by rickshaw boys, to the Egyptian Cigarettes picture of one Egyptian giving another a hotfoot, this is pure fun.
Plus, it's classic Freling.
Sureiyâzu (1995)
An Absolutely Hilarious Anime Classic.
The Slayers: The simply HILARIOUS adventures of 4 typical fantasy (almost right out of Dungeons & Dragons) characters, but each has some frightening physical/personality "difference." Of course, this equals fun and laughter.
Lina Inverse, the main character, is a fiery red-head sorceress whose one goal in life is to run around the world destroying just about everything in her way so she can have LOTS of money, and get cool stuff.
Gourry Gabriev, her sidekick, is a blond-haired "warrior" type guy who just happens to have no intelligence at all. He means well, but he's just plain stupid.
Zelgadis, the "serious type," is a sorcerer that happens to have his body gnarled into that of a golem. His skin, hair, etc...all made of bluish-green metal and stone.
Amelia begs her own category: a dark-haired "Justice Freak" whose obsession with Heroes and Justice is...well...disturbing.
The four journey about, and nothing but the most bizarre, clever obstacles stand in their way: Being forced to act in a bad play, Lina's forced making-out with a fish, Gourry always changing the subject to the flatness of Lina's chest, or even fighting the Devil himself, the four have it rough.
For the best viewing, it's recommended to watch the show in Japanese, because the voice actors have professional training (it's like actual on-screen acting there), and thus portray their characters PERFECTLY. The English dubbing is O.K., but it's just a good idea to watch it in the original language, because it's meant to be that way.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Incredible, classic film
The Sixth Sense, while rated PG-13, succeeds at being genuinely SCARY, a feat which few other films can boast of achieving. With unbelievable cinematography, a HIDEOUS soundtrack (in a good way), amazing acting, and a twist ending that, dare I say it, MAKES SENSE, this film truly deserved the Best Picture Oscar over Shakespeare in Love.
To briefly summarize the plot, Bruce Willis plays a child psychologist who, after celebrating a prestigious award from the mayor of Philadelphia, is assaulted by a former patient. This patient, screaming "YOU FAILED ME!" opens fire at Bruce Willis.
Zoom ahead to the next fall. Bruce Willis is now healed, and is beginning to investigate a little boy, Cole. This boy appears to have numerous psychological problems plaguing him, and Bruce Willis wishes to help him.
The two bond, and it appears that Cole harbors a truly strange secret. He is able to see ghosts, and they don't know they're dead. He wants them to go away. How is this conflict solved? Watch this truly frightening thriller.
Haley Joel Osment is an unbelievable actor. I pray he got the Best Actor nomination, for he truly deserved it. Bruce Willis gives a surprisingly UNBELIEVABLE performance, showing that he isn't just an action movie star.
M. Night Shaynaman's direction makes those scenes with the ghosts FRIGHTENING. The film is more of a thriller than outright horror, but it is just plain SPOOKY to watch. Who isn't frightened by normal people turning heir bodies to suddenly reveal part of their body tainted by blood?
Would I recommend this film? INDEED. 10/10
Me, Myself & Irene (2000)
Farrely Brothers Get Funnier & Funnier!
I just saw a sneak preview of this movie 6 days before its release. It begins in Rhode Island (every one of their movies start there), and tells the story of RI Highway Patrolman Charlie (Jim Carrey), just married to the "prettiest girl in town, Layla." They live a happy life, until Layla leaves him with three sons (of her midget lover). Charlie puts all his anger and sadness deep inside his sub-consciousness, and avoids confrontation with ANYONE. That's where the story begins...when one day, Charlie cracks. Suddenly, he starts to call himself "Hank" and hardly avoids confrontation; in fact, he promotes it. Charlie is diagnosed with a split personality. He is required to escort Irene (Renee Zellweger), a woman arrested for crimes she claims she didn't commit, back to upstate New York to clear up the mess. From here on, the movie gets funnier and funnier...err...sorry...HYSTERICAL! My highest recommendations.
Just a note. Those of you who don't find "immature" humor funny and didn't like "Something About Mary" will DEFINITELY not like this movie.

Dragon Ball Z: Doragon bôru zetto (1989)
AWESOME SHOW! (yet destroyed in the English dub)
DragonBall Z is a classic anime from Akira Toriyama, also the creator of "Doctor Slump" and "Dragonball". The show centers around seven mystic yellow balls, and when you put them together, you summon the Eternal Dragon; he will grant you one wish. The major character is Son Goku (voiced by Masako Nozawa), who is a man with incredible powers (actually from another planet). His companions include his son, Son Gohan (also voiced by Masako Nozawa), Piccolo, who is a demon (voiced by Toshiro Furugawa), and Krillin (a buddhist monk with no nose and six little strange-colored ball-shaped blotches on his forehead, voiced by Mayumi Tanaka). Let's not forget Bulma, the technological genius (voiced by Hiromi Tsuru), or Vegeta (first evil then good, voiced by Ryo Horikawa). More people join later, such as Trunks. The US Dubbed version has a TON of cuts in it. From as little things as getting punched in the face to INCREDIBLY stupid vocabulary. The original had expletives everywhere, to emphasize the situation. The English version uses such pathetic words as "jerk" and "bully". It's a classic show, but the places where you can buy the original Japanese with subtitles, I have NO idea.
