Meet the cast and characters at the heart of Netflix series North of North
Image
Netflix can do something many streaming services cannot. That includes bringing us fantastic series nearly full of lesser-known actors. The success of the show is not only good for Netflix, but also for the talent involved in creating the series.

When it comes to North of North, you might only know a few of the actors. Co-creators Stacey Aglok-MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril deliver excellence based on a culture that is often overlooked. Both are Inuit, and North of North is a comedy that follows the story of Siaja in the northern Canadian town of Ice Cover, Nunavut.

The population is 2,200, and many are Inuit. This includes the fictional series, as well as many of its actors. The show was also filmed in Iqaluit, Nunavut's capital. The combination of it all, plus the warm-hearted feel of the show, equates to excellence.

Who are the actors (and what are their characters) on...

‘The Silence Game’ – ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Star Sarah Yarkin Plays a Disturbing Game
Image
The star of the most recent installment in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, Sarah Yarkin will lead the cast of psychological thriller The Silence Game, Deadline reports.

Nicholas Cirillo (Outer Banks) has also signed on to star.

The upcoming film from writer/director John Rosman (New Life) “follows a disillusioned young man who, after following a mysterious woman into a camp of outsiders, falls under the influence of a charismatic leader preaching virtue in The Silence Game, an unnerving game with simple but terrifying rules.

“As the ideology takes a darker turn, he must grapple with its intoxicating philosophy before it spirals into something far more sinister.”

The film is produced by T. Justin Ross (Aporia).

In addition to Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), Sarah Yarkin also appeared in Happy Death Day 2U, as well as the TV shows “Motherland: Fort Salem” and “School Spirits.”

Nicholas Cirillo, meanwhile, has appeared in “Stranger Things,...

Image
Sarah Yarkin (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and Nicholas Cirillo (Outer Banks) have signed on to star in The Silence Game, a psychological thriller written and directed by John Rosman (New Life).

Currently filming in New Mexico, the film follows a disillusioned young man who, after following a mysterious woman into a camp of outsiders, falls under the influence of a charismatic leader preaching virtue in “The Silence Game,” an unnerving game with simple but terrifying rules. As the ideology takes a darker turn, he must grapple with its intoxicating philosophy before it spirals into something far more sinister.

Cirillo is currently in Hulu’s Murdaugh Murders and just wrapped production for the upcoming Black Mirror. He appeared last year with Natasha Lyonne in Rian Johnson’s Poker Face for Peacock and Netflix’s Outer Banks.

Don’t Mess with Grandma: Michael Jai White action comedy reaches Tubi later this month
Ten years ago, writer/director Jason Krawczyk brought the world the horror comedy He Never Died, which introduced viewers to a badass immortal character named Jack (played by Henry Rollins), who had been around for thousands of years. The follow-ups planned for that film haven’t made it into production, but now, Krawczyk is back with the action comedy Don’t Mess with Grandma (which was filmed under the title Sunset Superman), starring Michael Jai White. I had the chance to watch the movie several months ago and had a lot of fun with it (you can read my 8/10 review at This Link), and a larger audience will have the opportunity to enjoy it when it reaches the free streaming service Tubi on January 24th!

Don’t Mess with Grandma shows us what happens when a drunk Army ranger must fight off the vicious robbers who plan to loot the cabin belonging to his sweet,...

Motherland: Fort Salem Is The Perfect Show If You're Missing Agatha All Along (& Has 3 Seasons Ready To Binge)
Image
Agatha All Along brought a fun, spooky, witchy atmosphere to Marvels slate, leaving many fans wanting more. Watching Agatha Harkness form a coven that bonds almost against its will was beautifully compelling storytelling, the likes of which can also be found in other similar series, and the Agatha All Along characters having so much growth in just eight episodes is impressive. For any viewers of Agatha All Along whose chief complaint is that they wanted more time below Westview, there is a little-known supernatural drama, Motherland: Fort Salem, that provides the perfect substitute.

Motherland: Fort Salem is an alternative history of America where witchcraft is real. The entire U.S. Army consists of witches, headquartered at Fort Salem in Massachusetts. Motherland: Fort Salem's main characters are a unit of three newly conscripted witches, each has her own opinion on the honor of serving in the armed forces. Like Agatha All Along,...

Witchy Shows and Movies to Stream Now That 'Agatha All Along' Has Ended
Image
These shows and movies may help you move past the sadness from missing Agatha and your other favorite witches.

Agatha Harkness’s journey down the Witches’ Road has come to a close. Whether or not she achieved her goals at the end is a spoiler I won’t divulge here, but it’s safe to say that “Agatha All Along” has aired its season — and perhaps series — finale as of Wednesday, Oct. 30. If you’re left feeling a little empty and lost as to what to stream next, fear not! I’ve got a list of four TV shows and movies to try and satisfy that witchy itch.

What Should You Watch Next After ‘Agatha All Along’

Charmed

Motherland: Fort Salem

Return to Oz

The Umbrella Academy

Charmed

If you were attracted to “Agatha All Along” by the camaraderie of a group of witches, then “Charmed” is a natural next series to try.

Image
Sp Media Group, Republic Pictures and Paramount Global Distribution present The Painter, combining a high-octane spy-thriller with a complex family drama featuring the talents of Jon Voight, Charlie Weber, Maidson Bailey and Marie Avgeropoulos. Directed by Kimani Ray Smith, who exploded onto the festival circuit in 2011 with the short film Suffer in 2011, and has since directed two feature films and a handful of TV episodes, including Van Helsing and Fort Salem. The Painter was written by Brian Buccellato, who has written some impressive short films, like Sons of the Devil in 2014 and Ark Exitus in 2020, as well as collaborating with Sp Media Group and Jon Voight in 2022, to write the critically panned Dangerous Game: The Legacy Murders.

The Painter begins with its eponymous painter and CIA operative, Peter, meeting his handler Byrne, who is also his father. It is quickly also revealed that a childhood accident gave Peter incredibly acute hearing,...

The Vampire Diaries and The Originals alum will star in Sight Unseen, a co-production between the network and CTV.

15 Best Movies & Shows Like Fate: The Winx Saga
Image
Netflix’s live-action Fate: The Winx saga takes its inspiration for a magical story of female bonding and saving the world from a Nickelodeon animated series. There are many other shows and movies that follow the same themes. Hidden magic, female empowerment, and a search for identity are all found in Fate: The Winx Saga.

Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga was canceled after two seasons, but those first two seasons packed a lot of story into a short time. Bloom (Abigail Cowen) discovers she’s a fire fairy and attends a boarding school where she makes friends with different fairies who each specialize in different elements. The group of young women bond despite their differences and end up saving their school - twice - as well as the world of magic altogether. There are many other movies and shows like Fate: The Winx Saga that incorporate those same ideas that fans will also enjoy.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Every Known Witch (In Canon)
Image
Although vampires are the primary supernatural species in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the number of known witches expanded rapidly as the canon grew, featuring a handful of significant witches, numerous covens, and several other minor witches that might be difficult to keep track of. Buffy the Vampire Slayer introduced witchcraft early on in the series, but it didn't become a prominent feature until Willow dove into the world of magic headfirst, gaining power as she went on. Willow began using small spells in season 2, but she quickly found herself addicted to magic, using it to solve all of her problems (and frequently causing new ones in the process).

With how many witches eventually became part of the show's canon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was practically unrecognizable from the more focused series it was in season 1. A handful of witches played roles as major characters, but the complex world of covens...

Critically-Panned Fantasy Shows That Are Actually A Lot Of Fun
Image
Fantastical elements have been part of television since 1964's "Bewitched" and 1965's "I Dream of Jeannie. In the following decades, the genre's popularity has only grown, moving beyond family-friendly sitcoms. The '90s brought us "Hercules" and "Xena: Warrior Princess." The 2000s ushered in the massive cultural phenomenon of "Lost." The world of fantasy television is wonderfully expansive, featuring some of the most critically-acclaimed television -- from philosophical comedies like "The Good Place" to time travel romantic dramas like "Outlander," to high fantasy tales of intrigue and betrayal like "House of the Dragon." For every beloved series, there's a critically-panned fantasy flop. Every "Game of Thrones" season 1, there's a "Game of Thrones" season 8.

But the reviews are not the end all be all of a show's enjoyability. After all, art is subjective. Sometimes media that didn't work for critics can still be a great time. Even if a show was not well-received on its release,...

Animal Kingdom (2016)
2022's Shows That Ended On Their Own Terms
Animal Kingdom (2016)
Let's admit it; saying goodbye is hard.

But it's even worse when you don't get an ending that offers closure for characters you've come to know.

Sadly, we said goodbye to plenty of shows in 2022, and many didn't get the chance to have a proper series finale.

But there is good news, and the TV Fanatic staff has rounded up the shows that ended with a conclusive series finale.

Check out our thoughts below.

Animal Kingdom (TNT)

Whether you loved it or loathed it, Animal Kingdom went out the same way the Cody boys lived their lives: on its own terms.

The final season delivered some incredible performances from the cast as the season revealed the original sin that changed everything.

While it's still debated whether or not it was the perfect ending for this series, the finality of it and the intent to wrap up the journey in an authentic way is abundantly clear.

‘Death Pursuit’ Review
Image
Stars: Vinne Jones, James Clayton, Lina Lecompte, Danny Mac | Written by Cooper Bibaud, Danny Mac | Directed by James Clayton

I’m not quite sure which is the least imaginative, calling an action film Death Pursuit or casting Vinne Jones as a psychotically violent criminal. James Clayton went with both in his directorial debut and that should have sent up more red flags than a text message from an ex.

Death Pursuit opens in a scrapyard as some goons are executing what I presume are rival goons. While they’re doing that The Thief slips in and helps himself to stacks of cash that are just sitting there unguarded. His exit is a little more complicated and he ends up fleeing in a car that has Mia the pregnant wife of Temple (Vinnie Jones) the man he just ripped off, hidden in the trunk.

Writers Cooper Bibaud and Danny Mac, who...

Didn't you always know that the Bellweather Unit was special?

How special wasn't revealed until really late on Motherland: Fort Salem Season 3 Episode 10.

Developments shook out predictably in this final battle with the Camarilla.

After all, the witches have been using their powers for centuries. The Camarilla were employing stolen powers and jury-rigged equipment. Experience was gonna prevail.

If only The Mother hadn't allowed the witches to dig themselves such a deep hole. If she's all-seeing, why didn't she warn them earlier that the Camarilla were conspiring against them?

I guess they had to learn the hard way that humans fear those that are different. You would have thought that history had taught them that already.

The political and military leaders eased up on the Camarilla far too soon. They only had one of the leadership triumvirate in custody (Silver), and they lost him.

Meanwhile, the crazy leader (Hearst) had...

Inspired by the sword and sorcery comic books of the same name by Dynamite Entertainment, Red Sonja is based on the heroine originally created for Marvel Comics by Robert E. Howard and subsequently adapted by Roy Thomas. While the character is described as a fearsome warrior boasting a high degree of skill with a sword, details as to the film adaptation’s plot have not been disclosed. Hannah John Kamen had previously been set for the film’s lead role of Red Sonja, though she’s stepped aside due to scheduling conflicts, with...

When Freeform officials decided to cut short this story of the witches of Fort Salem, they should have given Eliot Laurence 12 episodes for its final season instead of the usual 10.

That way, Motherland: Fort Salem Season 3 Episode 9 wouldn't have had to be so jam-packed with storylines.

As a result, storylines on which viewers had been waiting, including the trial of the Bellweather Unit and Raelle and Scylla's wedding ceremony, flat out got short shrift as Laurence and company had to scramble to set up the series finale.

Which is a shame. There were enough developments for a couple of episodes, but significant action ended up having to take place offstage to speed along events. Only so much can be crammed into 42 minutes.

Abigail's proposal that the Bellweather Unit turn themselves in was wise, as then there was no longer any reason for the Camarilla troops to continue to occupy The Cession.

That was a whole lot of sacrificing going on.

The dead bodies started to pile up on Motherland: Fort Salem Season 3 Episode 8, with too many coming from Team Witch.

And, in the end, the Camarilla got precisely what they wanted: the Bellweather Unit in custody.

Still, there were several positive developments for the witches as well.

For instance, Tally caught on quickly to going back in history with her sight, considering how she had been struggling with her future scrying up until now.

Just listening to a little piece of the song off of that music box, and she was back watching the steward getting encased in ice far in the past.

Being a fugitive has made Tally more outspoken when it comes to offering her opinion rather than just going along as she did as a new cadet. There's no time for hemming and hawing now.

Tally took a look at the big picture,...

The "she" referenced in the title was Raelle, who frankly showed up a little late for the party.

Even though Willa declared that her daughter has healed, Raelle still appeared a little shaky on Motherland: Fort Salem Season 3 Episode 7.

Still, atomizing a Camarilla shock trooper about to filet Tally was a great way to make an entrance.

Raelle should rest up all she can now because it sounds like it's going to come down to her Witch Bomb in the end. Willa said so.

And not realizing that Raelle was about to make her appearance, Scylla allowed herself to be captured so that the others could escape. Those two can't catch a break, can they?

This first day of the U.S. invasion proved that The Cession forces, which included the Bellweather Unit by default, had to play way too much defense. Accept for Abigail, of course, but more on that later.

Abigail
Motherland: Fort Salem Season 3 Episode 6 Review: Book Club
Abigail
So maybe splitting up was the right direction to take all along.

Now that they could leave their confinement at Horse's mansion, Abigail and Adil, Scylla, and Tally took off on separate missions on Motherland: Fort Salem Season 3 Episode 6.

And, shockingly, no one came out worse for wear from their adventures.

It certainly helped the Bellweather Unit's cause that Thelma Bearkiller, their keeper from the Council of the Great River, came over to their side after battling Hearst and his Camarilla soldiers.

Thelma also proved to be a badass as a travel agent, lining up transportation for all three outings.

Abigail and Adil had the most crucial mission, getting a weakened Alder back to the mycelium hidden underneath Fort Salem.

They had to have had the most dangerous route crossing the eastern United States rife with Camarilla. It was good that they had Scylla to give the trio a map...

Things had been looking up for the Bellweather Unit.

But events rapidly conspired against them on Motherland: Fort Salem Season 3 Episode 5.

If, as was the original plan, President Wade spoke for them to the Council of the Great River, the fugitives would have had a better shot. The Council would have at least listened to the leader of the United States.

Having sweet-faced Adil welcome each council member in their native tongue was a clever opening gambit. Unfortunately, it was the high point of their presentation as well.

Instead, the Council got to hear from Abigail. Full-of-herself, entitled Abigail. And they indeed weren't of a mind to be lectured at by Abigail.

Still, their reticence couldn't be all dumped on Abigail. They arrived with their minds made up. The fugitives were a problem with which they didn't want to deal. So why even show up?

The problem was that the Council,...
