- James Olsen: Got to say, guys, I'm not a huge fan of this.
- Querl Dox: Intriguing. I should think discovering you're inflammable would be an emotional net-positive.
- Nia Nal: Flame-proof. How are you not more excited?
- James Olsen: Because you're the exciting one. Not so mild-mannered cub reporter turned inspirational superhero? I'm just happy to say I knew you when.
- Nia Nal: Thanks, boss.
- [holding up an alien hammer]
- Nia Nal: Now, I'm gonna hit you with this and we're gonna see what happens.
- James Olsen: And I'm gonna ask you to turn it down, because I'm not ready for that yet.
- Lena Luthor: Kara, brace yourself. We're gonna make an emergency landing.
- Kara Danvers: [getting into superhero mode] Yeah. That's gonna be a huge "nope" for me.
- Lena Luthor: Kara, you okay?
- Kara Danvers: [feigning shock of having gone through a crash landing, sits slumped in her chair, with glasses askew] I must have passed out. God, I hate flying.
- Lena Luthor: Oh, good. You found my plane.
- Eve Teschmacher: [crackling a cattle prod] I hoped it wouldn't come to this.
- Lena Luthor: Really?
- [drawing a collapsible baton from her boot]
- Lena Luthor: 'Cause I did.
- Kara Danvers: I'm not anxious. I think it would just be better, faster, if I flew alone.
- [covering]
- Kara Danvers: Commercial.
- Lena Luthor: I designed this jet myself. There's no faster way to fly.
- Kara Danvers: Right.
- Lena Luthor: And if you want stealth, it's got military-grade cloaking.
- Kara Danvers: Yeah, but you don't have to come with me.
- Lena Luthor: I need to look Lex in the eye when we catch him. I need him to know it was me.
- Kelly Olsen: [while out jogging with Alex, there are a couple of military vehicles parked in the street] Feels like I'm back on deployment.
- Alex Danvers: Hey, at least that's one upside to martial law. Maybe you feel like you're at home.
- Querl Dox: Ben Lockwood is at the DEO.
- James Olsen: But his wife's funeral is today.
- Querl Dox: I did not account for this. Alex just texted me moments ago saying she was dealing with a personal matter, and Colonel Haley's in D.C. trying to revoke Ben Lockwood's clearance. It's best I return immediately.
- James Olsen: You think you can handle him?
- Querl Dox: The real question is can he handle me?
- Nia Nal: Be careful.
- [holding up her hammer as Brainy leaves]
- Nia Nal: So... hammer time?
- James Olsen: Not in the face, kiddo.
- Lena Luthor: [encountering a patch of turbulence] Don't worry. It's just a lightning storm.
- Kara Danvers: Is lightning usually purple?
- Kara Danvers: [looking through Lex's files] Wait. This is Kopy. He attacked that carnival last fall. I wrote an article about him.
- Lena Luthor: Yeah, he could clone himself.
- Kara Danvers: Not exactly. He could split himself like a cell. And, uh, each copy was more powerful than the original. But the longer they were separated, the dumber they got.
- Kara Danvers: Where's Lex?
- Eve Teschmacher: I saw what he was doing to those poor aliens, and I just couldn't stand by him anymore.
- Lena Luthor: Cut the crap, Eva Braun. You're a backstabber and a liar.
- Eve Teschmacher: You're right. I am lying. But I really do love you guys. I just love Lex more. I'm always gonna be on his side.
- Lena Luthor: You're going to jail. But whether it's an American prison or a Siberian hole in the ground is up to me right now. So you're gonna tell us what we wanna know. Now.
- Alex Danvers: I just don't wanna fail.
- Kelly Olsen: Why do you think you'd fail?
- Alex Danvers: My mom was, uh... she was incredible with me. I mean, she always just... hugged me when I cried, and she... fixed up my bumps and my bruises, and work on my science projects with me.
- Kelly Olsen: Hmm.
- Alex Danvers: And she made me feel so loved. And, you know, for a lot of my formative and toughest years, she did it alone. And she is the one that inspired me to think that I can do this on my own. But now that this is... I mean, it's right in front of me, and I'm just not sure I could even be half the mother that she's been for me.
- Kelly Olsen: Okay, look. I've only known you for a short time. But from what I've seen, you're the most nurturing person that I've ever met. You take care of your friends, your sister, you took care of my brother when he was in the hospital. And even me. Who you barely knew. You care too much to fail, Alex. I mean, you are gonna be an amazing mother.
- Alex Danvers: Did anyone ever tell you you should be a shrink?
- Kelly Olsen: Mm, once or twice. All right, give me the chocolate.
- Alex Danvers: It's all gone.
- Kelly Olsen: What?
- Alex Danvers: I know.
- Kara Danvers: What is this place?
- Lena Luthor: [seeing a tray of test tubes] This is Harun-El.
- Kara Danvers: [recoiling as Lena opens a case] Kryptonite.
- [Lena closes it]
- Kara Danvers: This is all equipment to hurt Kryptonians.
- Lena Luthor: Looks like Lex is helping the Kaznians to invade America.
- Eve Teschmacher: That's the plan.
- Lena Luthor: But a Kaznian invasion on American soil would be like a child throwing rocks at a tank.
- Eve Teschmacher: Lex has a tank. Tank. Tank. Tank.
- Lena Luthor: Eve?
- Eve Teschmacher: Tank. Tank. Tank. Tank. Tank. Tank. Tank. Tank. Tank.
- Lena Luthor: All right.
- [catching her and sitting her down]
- Lena Luthor: Lex must have done something to her. Trigger word.
- Kara Danvers: That's Supergirl.
- Eve Teschmacher: Lexie calls her Ryzhaya Dch.
- Lena Luthor: That's "Red Daughter".
- Kara Danvers: Supergirl would never work with Lex.
- Lena Luthor: It's not Supergirl. She's a blank slate. Or, at least she was.
- Kara Danvers: What are you saying?
- Lena Luthor: It's a question of nature versus nurture. She's been tested, trained, and indoctrinated by Lex in a prison in one of the most oppressive regimes in the world.
- Kara Danvers: But she has to have good in her.
- Lena Luthor: There was good in Sam. And Reign was a monster. Lex has created the very thing he fears the most. A Kryptonian weapon trained as a killer. And in Lex's hands, it's more dangerous than an atomic bomb. And he has it pointed right at America.
- Kara Danvers: She is not an "it". Lex may have molded her, but there has to be some part of Supergirl still in her.
- Kara Danvers: Red Daughter, is she still here?
- Lena Luthor: Eve. Where is she?
- Eve Teschmacher: [laughing, as she enters] With Lex, obviously.
- Lena Luthor: [surprised] Eve? But the Harun-El can't duplicate humans.
- Kara Danvers: [realizing] He used Kopy.
- [Eve taps her watch, which triggers an alarm, and rubble begins to fall]
- Eve Teschmacher: The two of you shouldn't be here. But as long as you are, stay a while.
- Lena Luthor: [pulling Kara to her feet] We've got ten minutes before this building comes crashing down. Come on.
- Eve Teschmacher: [tasing Lena] I wish you didn't make me do that.
- Lena Luthor: [slugging her, then revealing the cattle prod hit Kara's tape recorder] Thank you, Kara.
- [looking down at Eve on the ground]
- Lena Luthor: Snake on a plane.
- Alex Danvers: When I left my fiancée, I, uh... it's hard to even say that. I felt like I would never heal. But then I did. And then, this... whole experience just feels like that wound just got ripped right back open again. And this time, I don't... I don't know if I can survive that.
- Kelly Olsen: Wounds heal.
- Alex Danvers: Into scars.
- Kelly Olsen: That fade in time. Some people leave indelible marks, and you get to wear them like a badge of honor of what you learn from the experience.
- Alex Danvers: Yeah? What did your scars teach you?
- Kelly Olsen: That there are always second chances. If you're brave enough to take the leap.
- Alex Danvers: That's easier said than done.
- Kelly Olsen: I was engaged.
- Alex Danvers: James never mentioned that.
- Kelly Olsen: Yeah, well, he didn't know. No one did. Because I was in love with my sergeant. And we couldn't be out while serving abroad.
- Alex Danvers: What happened?
- Kelly Olsen: She died while on patrol. And I couldn't mourn her. I was just numb. Alone in my pain. And I, um... I didn't face it until I was back stateside a few months later. I thought that wound would never heal. And then I got her farewell note. Service members send them sometimes before tours of duty in case they don't come back home. I never thought that I'd have to read hers. She said that she had every faith that I would find another person who would make me smile. And so will you. You will get a second chance at everything. Don't lose hope. Today, this is absolutely a deep wound. But someday, it'll be a faded scar.
- Kara Danvers: Mr. President. Thank you for seeing me.
- President Baker: Welcome. Welcome. I have nothing but respect for Cat Grant's media empire. And nothing but fear of her wrath.
- Kara Danvers: [wary of a nearby lamp] Is that kryptonite?
- President Baker: Ah. Sharp eye, young lady. Ever since Supergirl attacked the White House, we've added some necessary precautions to, uh, keep me safe.
- Kara Danvers: The United States is in danger, sir. I came here to warn you.
- President Baker: Warn me? Of what?
- Kara Danvers: Lex Luthor has allied with the Kaznian government, and they are going to attack. And Supergirl didn't attack you. A clone that worked for Lex did. And your Chief of Staff is in collusion with him.
- President Baker: Do you... do you have any proof?
- [she hands over a manila envelope, which he puts in a drawer in his desk]
- President Baker: Well, I wanna thank you for bringing this to my attention. Now, Ms. Danvers, uh... has anyone else seen this evidence?
- Kara Danvers: No, I... I thought it was more important to warn you as soon as possible.
- President Baker: [laughing, as he presses a hidden button on his desk] You did the right thing.
- [from behind, a burlap sack is placed over her head]
- Alex Danvers: I mean, the world is completely upside down, Kelly. Lex Luthor is still out there and I'm the one who's supposed to catch him, and then there's martial law. I mean, I can't... how would I even get out on the street and get diapers?
- Kelly Olsen: I will find you some diapers.
- Alex Danvers: It's not about the diapers.
- Kelly Olsen: I know it's not. But you have to take a beat and breathe and look at the issues one at a time.
- Alex Danvers: What I really need is to be able to talk to my sister, and she's unreachable. She's in Kaznia.
- Kelly Olsen: Okay. If Kara was here, what would she say?
- Alex Danvers: Okay. If Kara was here, she would tell me... that this has always been my dream. And she would say that it's never gonna be the perfect time. And that despite villains on the loose and martial law, this is a gift, and it would be sacrilege not to accept it.
- Kelly Olsen: Sounds like you have your answer.
- Alex Danvers: You okay?
- Kelly Olsen: Got a bum knee.
- Alex Danvers: Ah.
- Kelly Olsen: It really sucks when your body starts breaking down, huh?
- Alex Danvers: Yeah, seriously. Sometimes I wonder when I can't run as fast as I used to, I'm like "Oh, right. I'm not 20 anymore." No one is spared.
- Kelly Olsen: James will be.
- Alex Danvers: Must be strange to have a sibling with superpowers, huh?
- Kelly Olsen: [overhearing Alex's phone call] What is it?
- Alex Danvers: Um... I should... I should go home.
- Kelly Olsen: Are you okay? Who was that?
- Alex Danvers: That was the adoption agency. I'm gonna be a mother.
- George Lockwood: When I was nine years old, I chipped my front tooth. But I was in my school play that weekend. I went to tell my mom that... I couldn't do it, and she just smiled at me. She had painted her front tooth black.
- [glancing at a picture of Lydia on display]
- George Lockwood: You were always there for me, and I know you always will be. I love you.
- DEO Agent: I didn't think you were coming in today.
- Ben Lockwood: Where are we with, uh, the criminal alien who calls herself Dreamer?
- DEO Agent: I'm not sure what you...
- Ben Lockwood: Wait a second. T-This is the Department of Extra-Normal Operations, is it not? W-What do we... what do we do here at the Department of Extra-Normal Operations?
- DEO Agent: We monitor extra-normal...
- Ben Lockwood: No, no, no! Aliens. Right? That was your... you were gonna say alien. Well, you're correct. And Dreamer is an alien. And, uh, these days, we just don't monitor aliens, we hunt them down. So, uh, have you hunted down Dreamer yet? Huh? No? Okay. Here's an easy one. What about the alien who killed my wife?
- DEO Agent: Colonel Haley...
- Ben Lockwood: Colonel Haley isn't here. I am.
- [to the room at large]
- Ben Lockwood: All right. Listen up! An illegal alien has commandeered your airwaves and called for an uprising against your government. We have to find her. We have to find out who she is. Find every human and alien whom she is working with. And I have an idea, let's start with James Olsen, because I would like to know how the *hell* he got superpowers.
- Kara Danvers: Mm!
- Lena Luthor: [with an amused laugh] I know, right? This plane makes its own coffee, cleans its own toilets, and flies itself.
- Kara Danvers: [tensing in alarm] There's no pilot?
- Lena Luthor: Well, humans make mistakes. My technology doesn't. Speaking of mistakes, I should have told you about Lex from the beginning. Trust is still a learned skill for me. It doesn't come naturally.
- Kara Danvers: Well, no matter what, we are always on the same side.
- Lena Luthor: That lightning wasn't natural. Someone brought us down on purpose.
- Kara Danvers: Well, let's hope we didn't ruin the element of surprise.
- Lena Luthor: This is so odd. I would've thought Lex would have an army behind him.
- [turning the power on]
- Lena Luthor: Must have left days ago.
- Kara Danvers: What about the lightning?
- Lena Luthor: Automated system. It's very Lex.
- Kara Danvers: Where did they go?
- Lena Luthor: Oh, my god.
- Kara Danvers: What was Lex doing? Experimenting?
- Lena Luthor: On aliens. He was trying to siphon and harness their powers.
- Kara Danvers: He was torturing them.
- Kara Danvers: Paper files? Seems so low-tech.
- Lena Luthor: She always said you couldn't hack paper.
- [opening a file folder]
- Lena Luthor: It's Eve. This is her handwriting. Let's start reading.
- Alex Danvers: Okay, well, this is the birth mother's file. It's got her story, it's got her medical history. Oh, my god. She's only seventeen.
- Kelly Olsen: Okay, take a breath.
- Alex Danvers: No, there's no time to breathe. She's already in labor.
- Kelly Olsen: What?
- Alex Danvers: Yeah. She hid the pregnancy from everybody.
- Alex Danvers: Usually, the birth mother looks at prospective parent profiles and then she chooses three. But in this case, since she's about to have the baby, she's only chosen one. And that's me.
- Kelly Olsen: Alex, that's incredible.
- Alex Danvers: It's insane. I mean, I have twelve bours to decide if I want to have a child and then get to Portsmouth where the baby is gonna be born. Look, I filled out the adoption application a year ago, and I haven't heard a single word since then. Not one word. And now, all of a sudden, I have twelve hours to make the biggest decision in my life.
- Kelly Olsen: Do you want to be a mother?
- Alex Danvers: More than anything. Yes. Of course. I... I mean, I left my fiancée over this.
- Cooper: I went through Haley's office. Found some files. Lena Luthor's been working out of the DEO.
- Querl Dox: [eavesdropping] Sprock.
- Ben Lockwood: Why? She's got a whole building with her name on it.
- Cooper: Maybe we'll find some answers in her lab.
- Ben Lockwood: Show me.
- Querl Dox: Double sprock.
- Querl Dox: [locking Lena's lab] May I be of some assistance?
- Ben Lockwood: Open it.
- Querl Dox: I can't.
- Ben Lockwood: That's an order.
- Querl Dox: Yet, it would appear that Article 351, Section 6 of the DEO Code of Behavior does not make exceptions for the president's Cabinet.
- Ben Lockwood: Cooper, sidearm.
- [cocking his pistol, Cooper hands it over, and Ben fires, shattering the glass in the door]
- Lena Luthor: Those are DEO power-dampening cuffs. All of the test subjects here were prisoners of the DEO desert facility. That's why Lex was spying on it.
- Kara Danvers: What is he building?
- [they jump as they hear a loud bang nearby]
- Kara Danvers: Is someone there?
- Lena Luthor: [grabbing a cattle prod for self-defense] Come out now and we won't hurt you.
- [Kara opens the door]
- Lena Luthor: [surprised] Eve?
- Eve Teschmacher: [her old bright and chipper self] Kara. Lena. You found me. I was so scared.
- Kelly Olsen: Well?
- Alex Danvers: Well, she's only dilated to four centimeters, so we still have a while to wait, you know. But, um, I mean, she's... her vitals are good, and there's no signs of distress, and everything is just progressing normally.
- Kelly Olsen: Great.
- [seeing her look]
- Kelly Olsen: Why do you look like it's not great?
- Alex Danvers: She doesn't wanna see me until after she has the baby.
- Kelly Olsen: That's understandable.
- Alex Danvers: Yeah, of course. Yeah, you're right.
- Kelly Olsen: Of course I'm right. Now, try to relax.
- [offering a candy bar]
- Kelly Olsen: Eat some chocolate.
- Alex Danvers: What if my apartment isn't safe for a baby? You know, I mean, how do you know if you have lead-based paint?
- Kelly Olsen: That is a simple test.
- Alex Danvers: I've got wires everywhere. And-and all of my... all of my outlets are exposed.
- Kelly Olsen: Okay, that is totally fixable. And your baby's not gonna be crawling anytime soon.
- Alex Danvers: Right, but what if it, like, flings itself, like, into an outlet?
- Kelly Olsen: Do you hear yourself? Alex, you're just scared.
- Alex Danvers: I'm not scared. I'm terrified.
- Kara Danvers: Let's start with the aliens. We know you've been trying to harness their powers. Why?
- Eve Teschmacher: I don't...
- Kara Danvers: [she suddenly stops, like a computer powering down] Eve?
- Eve Teschmacher: [perking up, like a computer rebooting] Kara! Hi.
- Kara Danvers: You were about to tell us about the aliens. What does Lex do to them?
- Eve Teschmacher: Lex likes to keep his plans compartmentalized.
- Kara Danvers: Even from the love of his life?
- Eve Teschmacher: You think I'm the love of his life?
- Lena Luthor: [advancing menacingly] Oh, I think you're...
- Kara Danvers: [restraining her] He trusted you for a reason. You were helping him experiment on DEO prisoners. How did he get access to them?
- Eve Teschmacher: Someone inside helped him.
- Lena Luthor: You're saying this was an authorized prison transfer?
- Eve Teschmacher: Yes.
- Kara Danvers: Who authorized it?
- Eve Teschmacher: I'm not sure. Someone in the government. Someone high up.
- Kara Danvers: What do you keep looking at?
- [seeing claw marks on the floor]
- Kara Danvers: These claw marks lead somewhere.
- Ben Lockwood: [surprised to see George at the DEO] What are you doing here?
- George Lockwood: You left in the middle of Mother's funeral.
- Ben Lockwood: Yes, and I know. But I had to. You want me to catch your mother's killer, don't you?
- George Lockwood: Of course I do, but you... you left me alone in a church full of people and... I just lost my mother. And I need you.
- Ben Lockwood: I know, but we need justice, son. First your grandfather, now your mother. Everything that I am doing is for their memories.
- Cooper: Sir, we found something I think you're gonna wanna see.
- Ben Lockwood: [to George, as he turns to leave] And for you.
- Alex Danvers: That's pretty badass.
- Kelly Olsen: Yeah. Wait, but check out the jogging strollers. Maybe you could take the baby on a run. Look at that.
- Alex Danvers: Okay, that is definitely the way to go.
- Kelly Olsen: What happened?
- Alex Danvers: Um... the grandparents called up, um, a priest to talk... talk to the mother, and she ended up... she changed her mind, and she's gonna keep... she's gonna keep the baby.
- Kara Danvers: Is she a clone?
- Lena Luthor: No. Not exactly. All these biometrics have been affected by Harun-El. We know it duplicates Kryptonians. It split Sam from Reign. Supergirl must have come into contact with it.
- Kara Danvers: But how does Lex fit into this?
- Lena Luthor: The Kaznians brought him in. He's helping them control her.
- Ben Lockwood: This is it. This is what gave James Olsen powers.
- Querl Dox: Sir... everyone involved in this project thought the same thing. Wouldn't it be great if humans had superpowers? James Olsen was given a carefully calibrated, highly refined dose in the midst of a medical emergency.
- Ben Lockwood: [Cooper moves to escort him out] Wait, wait, wait. Hold up. Hold up. Let him finish.
- Querl Dox: What you're holding is a raw, undiluted experimental serum that will, in all likelihood, kill you.
- Ben Lockwood: "In all likelihood." Oh, that means it might not.
- Querl Dox: I know the odds. They're not good.
- DEO Agent: Sir, we found the alien that killed your wife.
- Ben Lockwood: Where?
- [she shows him her tablet]
- Ben Lockwood: Get our agents over there right now.
- Cooper: They're all out searching.
- Ben Lockwood: Then assemble a DEO strike team. I'll lead.
- Ben Lockwood: Where's the Brevakk who killed my wife?
- [she's apprehended as she tries to flee]
- Ben Lockwood: Take her out of here.
- [she's escorted out]
- Ben Lockwood: And, uh, rendition the lot of them for enhanced interrogation.
- Querl Dox: Mr. Secretary, we found who we were looking for. The rest of these aliens are innocent of any crimes.
- Ben Lockwood: They were harboring a murderer. Move.
- Kara Danvers: Well, thank god for Eve's paper fetish.
- Lena Luthor: [Kara hands her a tape recorder] Thanks.
- Kara Danvers: [picking up a file] The DEO prisoner transfers.
- [turning to the last page]
- Kara Danvers: Signed and authorized by Sarah Walker.
- Lena Luthor: The president's Chief of Staff?
- Kara Danvers: She is the mole in the government. She's working with Lex.
- Lena Luthor: [seeing Eve run by] Eve. I'll get her, you get the evidence.
