My opinions on SAO as a whole (Which are generally favorable) are irrelevant here so I'm going to simply discuss this fan effort as if it weren't even connected.
Again this is a fan effort and not official, it's live action though does in places incorporate some of the shows animation (Which really badly doesn't work).
6 episodes total and the episode length ranges from 1 to 5 minutes, some are original but most are essentially reworkings of season 1 scenes and they aren't even in order either.
So what actually is it? We have a small number of cos players, generally just Kirito and Asuna in most and even the latter is played by three different girls across the 6 episodes!
In fact the cosplay is the best part of this, the costumes look fine but that simply isn't enough. The locations are terrible, you can actually see a modern EXIT sign in the background when they're supposedly heading to fight a boss, the cooking scene is in a modern outfitted kitchen and in no way does this look like a fantasy world.
Then the acting, I get that they used cos players rather than actors and it shows. Not only can they not act at all (Especially the actor who plays Kirito) but their English is appalling so subtitles are absolutely essential. In fact it's not only that their English is bad, they also mumble their lines with the excitement and delivery of bored sounding fart.
So awful acting, dreadful locations, terrible integration with the original show, weak Adobe After Effects style sfx and non-existent runtimes. I don't mind short features in fact I often appreciate them but what is the point here? Seeing two characters sit and regurgitate lines from the show for 90 seconds with absolutely no passion ending in a "To be continued".
Yes it's a fan made show I appreciate that but most of these flaws aren't forgivable. If you're going to do a live action SAO then do a 60-90 minute movie don't do these pointless little clips which contribute nothing, are cringe inducingly bad and are shorter than the out takes!
The Good:
Cosplay is quite good (Except the Gorillas!)
The Bad:
Laughable acting (And I use that term loosely)
Actors (I use that term loosely as well) can barely speak English
Integration with the anime doesn't work
Serves no purpose
Filming locations are bafflingly stupid
