Supergirl as lady in distress
RavenGlamDVDCollector16 September 2020
Should have piped up a lot sooner, but here it is at last: Ever since Snowbird/Red Daughter became more central to the episodes, I have sort of changed my outlook re staying with this show, at least for Season 5.

While I also found the photosynthesis thing utterly ridiculous and pathetically contrived... no matter!

That giggle between Supergirl and Alex in the backflash... Movie magic! Besides the Red Daughter thing creating a better storyline, besides yet another episode with Supergirl as the lady in distress, all big plusses, that little you-might-say insignificant scene (compared to all the rest)... those two giggling...

But I shall remain the devoted skeptic dissident critic. There's so much I loathe. Boring character like J'onn. Good thing his even more boring father is off. Bad hairstyles for Alex and Lena. Hey, Katy should do that black witchy style she donned at the Comic Con shindig pre this season! Surprise of this episode was Brenda Strong finally not just playing a cardboard character anymore. Okay, just some loose ideas I kicked around.

But those giggles... made it for me. Take another look at it. Super-cute. I'm not talking about the young versions. Just before Alex holds up the slice of pizza "to the Danvers sisters"...

Have to take the good with the bad

Warning: Spoilers
Other than the appalling affront to science at the end, a very fun episode. Lena and her mother interact in a way that's entertaining while remaining true to their character. Brainiac 5 resets to factory settings in a great sequence, and Agent Liberty gets a few awesome scenes too (though I wished they knew what they were doing with that character).

Exciting turning point.

3 out of 5 stars.

Episode moves with action, story, and the drama. Supergirl fighting against the russian version of her was cool. Brainy makes questionable choices which Nia and Jonn are concerned. Lex plan is revealed.

Unbelievable on so many levels

Warning: Spoilers
This one lacks the IQ of a 4th grade life science student.

Supergirl dies. She's killed by her clone at night so there's no sun to keep her charged. So Alex wishes her alive by dumbsplaining to her and, painfully obviously, the rest of us that, hey, there's sunlight in everything. The plants, the grass the trees. And suddenly, by magic, Supergirl starts sucking sunlight in the form of luminous wormlike strands from the surrounding flora. Eye roll. Eye roll. Coma.

To the writers of this mess, photosynthesis involves the conversion of sunlight and carbon dioxide into chemical energy and oxygen. Now, chlorophyll will trap light energy to facilitate this, but it only traps red and blue light, neither of which would help Supergirl. I don't recall how long the energy is trapped, but I'm certain it's not for hours. Not that it can be extracted anyway - at least not by a DEAD PERSON.

The only good thing about this episode is we finally see Brainiac.

Had it not been for the flaunted stupidity of the reverse photosynthesis induced Kryptonian resurrection, this would have only been a bad episode instead of a complete, mind-numbing waste of time.
