    Very atmospheric start...

First off, going into this show, expectations are sky high. Mike Flanagan is a true genius when it comes to storytelling enter woven with horror elements. I hope this story is just as good as the haunting of hill house. Chilling visuals!

    The creepiest bit...

Aside from the wonderful location and the unsettling children, the creepiest bits of the show are the late 80s fashions and mom jeans! Chilling!

    A good start.

This was a good introduction to the story for the season. The setting is very atmospheric and Mike Flanagan does such a good job telling a story. He's seriously one of the best working today in the genre. The acting from Vanessa is a standout. With that being said, I don't understand why people are giving this episode anything above a 7. It's not knock your socks off, amazing, transformative stuff.

    A change of pace (8.3)

During this episode I noticed the differences in pace from the first season. I liked the slow building tension from the children to capture how odd and mysterious This house is. I'm glad the creators are still using the large landscapes and hallways to place hidden shadows in a lot of the scenes like last season. I have high hopes for the rest of season 2.

    The atmosphere!

I enjoyed episode because it layed out good grounds for the series ahead. I'm an avid horro fan but this made me feel very uneasy as soon as we were introduced to Bly manor! I'm looking forward to see how the story unfolds

    • Trivia
Dani is staying in room 217 before taking the job at Bly Manor. This is the same room number as the most dangerous room in Stephen King's book The Shining. Creator Mike Flanagan has directed two King adaptions including Doctor Sleep (2019) and Gerald's Game (2017).
    • Goofs
The telephone in the kitchen of Bly Manor rings with a North American ring...ring cadence, not a UK ring-ring... ring-ring cadence.
    • Quotes

Family Friend: [toasting the married couple] I want to warn you all, you young people have absolutely no idea what you are letting yourselves in for. Oh... Here's a horrifying statistic. Did you know that almost half of marriages these days do not end up in divorce? That means there's a strong probability that you two get to watch each other die. And that's the preferred outcome. To truly love another person is to accept that the work of loving them is worth the pain of losing them.
