The anime is a better adaptation by a mile
daisukereds12 November 2019
The leads were great! What a great casting (they look the part perfectly, and I wish this was a TV series instead of a movie).. as well as Make-up, Wardrobe, Locations, Colors, Editing, Sound effect etc.

Sadly, this movie is 2 seasons worth of Anime summarized in 2 hours. Although it has good pacing, it still feels rushed. It's a patchwork of scenes from the manga edited together to form a plot.. but there is a little change that makes it worth seeing (appreciated and unexpected). It's fresh enough, but still too familiar. The rest of the cast was awfully forgettable (except for Hayasaka) and weren't used as they should have, which is weird for such important parts of the original (specially Fujigawara).

** Barely in theaters at this point, and only found in Japanese.

annoying chika

Warning: Spoilers
I love the live action adaptation, except Chika. She just wanna be like the anime version, when it is animated, it looks okay, but when they did the similar thing in live action. Wow, I feel it sounds really weird because it is surely does not exist in real life. Maybe because I am not japanese so I cannot withstand this, I really love Chika's character in anime version, but its totally not working when the did the exact same thing. Its like, where is the humanity? Live action need human touch, maybe not 100% because it is a fiction but at least tone it down it can be a little bit better. Poor Chika, I guess it will be better if they dont use the formula of beautiful main actress with average looking supporting character. By the way, Hayasaka & Kashiwagi is prettier in live action.

i really love the Manga and Anime, but this.

Their manga and anime so captivationg and wonderfull to watch, so my expectation of this live action is a bit high...kanna hashimoto and sho hirano play kaguya and shirogane very well... but for chika fujiwara character...oh my God, this live action just massacre my most beloved character. the one i waited on the movie, turns out the one i cant stand due to the cringe. its so cute in the anime, yet so bizzare in movies.

I am not in a habit of watching live-action!!!
rainrain_desu12 August 2020
Hardly did you watch the anime ver. than you watched just the trailer of this... disgusting! Everything from the anime, they brought the the live-action. Yes, they have done their job well, but, in terms of anime is too BAD! They should have changed a little bit to make the film more nature!

Everything is so boring as another live-action! Why don't they just consider more about why a lot of people (E.G: ME) hate their live-action that much!

If you are in mood for a live-action, come and watch it! But I recommend watching the anime ver. first then you may have second thought - turn a blind eye to the live-action or still want to watch it! It's up to you!

Sweet, cute, charming fun
lyntonadam10 July 2020
Wow, I haven't had this much fun since the excellent first season of "Switch Girl" ! Ah, the Japanese. I've not seen anyone do cuteness/charm quite like them & LIW is probably the classic demo for the style. Beginning life as a manga, it then became a well-regarded two season anime series. So rather than morphing into a live-action series ( a la the lovely "Jellyfish Princess" ), it's now a feature film which some on-liners accuse of missing too many things out. Since I come to it minus any baggage, all I can do is judge it as is, and.....I love it ! Set in a super-posh private school, the president of the student council is Shirogane ( Sho Hirano ) a handsome, gifted lad from a humble background. His vice-prez is Shinomiya ( Kanna Hashimoto ) an equally studious girl but from a mega-rich family. They have strong feelings for each other yet struggle to express them, though I think it's more to do with the excruciating stress of confessing to the other ( a universal problem for the ages ) than any power-struggle. There's clearly a cuteness formula for this sort of material to work, yet it somehow doesn't grate the way the K-Drama template does because there's a lot more scope for creativity. The animations here are great & certain sight-gags are superb; Everything looks gorgeous & even the council chamber evokes memories of the interior sets at King's Landing in Game Of Thrones. The cast are tip-top too, with a core of real emotion never drowned out by the visual pyrotechnics. I used the word "fun" in my opening sentence for good reason. So if you feel like smiling/laughing, you know what to do.

Absolutely ridicious. Also absolutely hysterical.
mister_bateman26 November 2020
The most popular guy and the most popular girl in this prestigious elite school are obviously into each other, but they are both way too prideful to make themselves vulnerable by showing it, so every interaction between them becomes a power play and a chess game. The stuff they come up with to avoid revealing themselves and circumvent the elefant in the room is pretty creative and hilarious. The humor is totally childish and over the top in the typical anime style but it's very well balanced out with a charming, sweet and wholesome romance, good cinematography and some funny side characters. The movie is never predictable and a lot of scenes take unexpected turns that make it even more funny. Since I am not a manga or anime fan I can only judge the movie on its own and I must say I found it extremely entertaining and absolutely hysterical. I laughed out loud quite a few times. Definitely recommended.

Romantic and Super Funny!
yiuleungf26 June 2021
It about two school leaders who secretly like each other but don't want to confess to the other first so they make up tricks and traps to make the other confess first. It's light-hearted, super funny and full of jokes and being romantic at the same time. The election and final scene are also fantastic. Highly recommended.
