When you begin watching Palm Royale on Apple TV+ tomorrow, you'll be whisked back to the lively and colorful Palm Beach of the late 1960s courtesy of Abe Sylvia, whose creative mind brought it all together.
Sylvia created, writes, and directs Palm Royale, which almost defies genres. It's a comedic period piece starring Kristen Wiig as Maxine Simmons, a woman who takes her future into her own hands, desperate to cross the line between the haves and have-nots.
As Maxine brings her daring plan to extraordinary life, she discovers that the lives she wants to crash aren't all they're cracked up to be.
Sylvia has an unusual heroine in Maxine, who is as aggravating as she is understandable, and he's ensconced her in high society with many vibrant and sly women and men eager to both embrace Maxine and hold her at a distance, depending on their needs at the moment.

R.E.M.’s 11th studio album, Up, informally flagged the start of the third and final phase of the band’s career, following both their early I.R.S. years and their mainstream peak in the 1990s. Drummer Bill Berry departed the band after suffering a brain aneurysm while on tour in 1995, but the remaining members opted not to replace him, instead employing electronic drum programming throughout the majority of the album. And the timing, it seemed, was serendipitous, as the electronica movement was reaching its apotheosis.
Up subsequently marked the end of R.E.M.’s decade-long relationship with rock producer Scott Litt, replaced by Ray of Light knob-twirler Pat McCarthy and mixer Nigel Godrich, who produced Ok Computer. And yet, the album doesn’t immerse itself as vigorously in the genre as those two watershed releases. Sonically, tracks like the Eno-esque opener “Airportman” and the gently percolating “Suspicion...

Love Is Blind is easily one of the buzziest shows on Netflix — and with the recent advent of the fourth season, it is clear that fans are as captivated by the show as ever before. Early on in the series, one particular contestant emerged as a favorite. Zack Goytowski, an attractive young criminal defense attorney, developed a strong connection with Bliss Poureetezadi, only to dump her for another woman.
He would go on to reconnect with Poureetezadi in a heartwarming twist — and many Love Is Blind fans are still discussing the sweet scenes that the two shared throughout the course of the season. In a recent Instagram post, Goytowski responded to a fan who expressed appreciation for the unabashed love Goytowski has for the song “I Hope You Dance.”

Five years after it first hit SoundCloud, Shamir’s album Hope has been reissued on vinyl for a deluxe version via Kill Rock Stars, featuring the never-before-heard songs “Breathe” and “Camouflage.”
Hope was the follow-up to Shamir’s debut album, 2015’s Ratchet, and came about in a miraculous way. Stunned by the attention and acclaim Ratchet garnered, but taken aback by the pressures of fame and the process of commodification, Shamir almost quit music entirely. But a single weekend recording session brought him back from the edge, and resulted in the creation of Hope.
“Hope came at a time in my life when I was desperately searching for it,” Shamir explained in a statement. “I found myself not wanting to do music anymore after a rough introduction into the music industry. I didn’t feel seen or heard as the artist I was, or at least wanted to be, and...

Wow, a ‘new’ Sam Peckinpah western! While we await the rumored Blu-ray of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid to surface (or was Alex Cox misinformed?), correspondent Darren Gross has come across a watchable web encoding of a Peckinpah TV drama that seems to be more or less ‘lost.’ Good star performances and intense characterizations prove once again that Peckinpah could deliver superior dramatics. The home video companies should do some investigating — there’s a market out there for this one.

j-hope of BTS has unveiled a new solo single, “on the street.” The collaboration between BTS’ dance leader and his longtime idol J. Cole is a cozy, lo-fi addition to j-hope’s discography. Stream it below.
Somewhere between the darker, rock-inspired sound of j-hope’s full-length 2022 solo release, Jack in the Box, and the neon-drenched explosion of his 2018 mixtape Hope World, “on the street” is mellow and hopeful, grounded by an earworm whistle hook. “For the path I’m on to become one of hope, I give my all/ Even my walk was made of your love and your faith/ To repay you from afar, just like a butterfly,” j-hope raps.
The song arrives following the news that j-hope will be the next member of BTS to begin the process to move forward with South Korea’s mandatory military enlistment period. In a press release, he states that this song...

HBO’s latest hit series The Last of Us now officially has a soundtrack for its first season, a massive, 66-song compilation of all the music scoring the post-apocalyptic tale. Check it out below.
After working on the original The Last of Us video game, composer Gustavo Santaolalla returns for the HBO series, joined by fellow artist David Fleming. In an upcoming interview with Consequence, Santaolalla describes his approach to the soundtrack, saying, “The process of adapting, it was more in a way like craftwork than actually a new creation, because the themes were there, those things are there, like the characters, it wasn’t about creating a new job, it wasn’t about finding what is interesting. For example, in seeing how Pascal and Bella, they’re different than the actors that played the voices, but at the same time, they keep the soul of the characters intact.”

Netflix has quite a few new movies and television shows joining its ranks this March. Some of these are exclusives or originals, such as the second season of "Shadow and Bone," while others like the "Riddick" trilogy are being acquired through licensing agreements. Needless to say, if you are subscribed to Netflix, the chances that you'll find something intriguing to watch that month are high.
Of course, when new programs are added, some have to leave. Netflix is certainly no stranger to having big-name titles come and go from their service, although the vast majority of its originals have retained their place. However, March will likely be the month where that exclusivity is tested. There aren't too many titles leaving Netflix that month, but the ones that are could set the stage for how the platform filters its so-called "content" moving forward. In the meantime, here are some of the...

You'll have to forgive me for kicking things off here with a little bit of math. But when a movie like "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania" deals with quantum mechanics, multiverse travel, and all sorts of other high-concept, sci-fi nonsense, then maybe it's not too out of place. The upcoming pint-sized threequel will become the 31st movie (!) released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which spans almost 15 total years and crosses over into dozens upon dozens of hours of shows. That's ... a lot, to say the absolute least. And it's turned every upcoming event into an extravaganza that requires a certain amount of homework for those who care about the interconnectedness of the overarching story.
"Quantumania" certainly fits the bill, although part of that is to be expected for a film that's capping off a trilogy of movies. The first "Ant-Man" debuted back in 2015 and quickly became an MCU staple, appearing...

Exclusive: We have learned that Jim Mickle, co-creator of Netflix’s Sweet Tooth, is partnering with Legendary and AfterShock Media to helm the film adaptation of Donny Cates’ acclaimed graphic novel God Country.
In God Country, Emmett Quinlan is an elderly widower rattled by dementia. Emmett isn’t just a problem for his children–his violent outbursts are more than the local cops can handle. When a tornado levels his home–as well as the surrounding West Texas town–a restored Quinlan rises from the wreckage. An enchanted sword at the eye of the storm gives him not just a sound mind and body, but phenomenal power. He’s now the only man who can face the otherworldly creatures the sword has drawn down to the Lone Star State in a film that will bring a Western aesthetic to the super hero genre.
Cates adapted the screenplay from the Image Comics 2017 graphic novel.

Stellan Skarsgård on Maria Sødahl’s Oscar shortlisted Hope (Håp): “Many directors just put the camera on the person talking but she records the reactions from every character in the film.”
Stellan Skarsgård starred in Hans Petter Moland’s Out Stealing Horses, In Order Of Disappearance, A Somewhat Gentle Man, Zero Kelvin, and Aberdeen. The following contains spoilers for Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous season 2.
The second season of the animated series Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, released on Netflix on Jan. 22, answered a lot of lingering questions from season one. But another cliffhanger ending has left fans roaring for more.
With a whole island to explore and a few years of blank timeline between Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom, the creative team has a lot of elements to play around with. What do we think we’ll see if Netflix spares no expense and gives us a third season?

Picturehouse Entertainment has acquired U.K. rights from TrustNordisk for Maria Sødahl’s “Hope,” which stars Stellan Skarsgård and Andrea Bræin Hovig, and will have its European premiere at the Berlin Film Festival this month.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker marks the last time Carrie Fisher will play Leia Organa, due to the late, great actress passing away back in 2017. It would be unthinkable to recast the adult version of the Resistance general, but maybe there’s a future for the iconic character in the Star Wars franchise by diving back into her past and exploring her early years. Whoever Lucasfilm hired to play a young Leia though would have to be the perfect choice to honor Fisher’s one-of-a-kind portrayal.
It’s unsurprising, then, that the studio appears to have listened to the fans on this one and is considering casting someone that folks have been saying should play a teen version of the Princess of Alderaan for years. How many times is Legacies going to avoid activating Hope's vampire side to make her a full-fledged hybrid?
Legacies Season 2 Episode 7 was an exhilarating episode of this very addictive The Vampire Diaries and The Originals spinoff, but my biggest complaint about the series remained.
The show is purposefully weakening Hope, to the point the whole powerful aspect that comes with having some of the most-talked-about supernatural beings as her family is starting to wear thin.
The producers have crafted a convincing reason for stifling the teenager's power: Klaus or Hayley never faced anything the Malivore pit is spewing out, but still, it sucks when we're being led to believe Hope is powerful, only to have her play second fiddle to other characters.
Clarke's plan was sound. In his disguise, his manipulation of Josie worked, and he got ever so close to becoming Hope. We already knew he wanted to kill his father,...

The following scene from tonight’s Legacies (The CW, 9/8c) may not pass the Bechdel test, but it does suggest that Hope and Josie might someday manage to repair their damaged relationship. And that’s not nothing.
Lizzie gets the ball rolling in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek, telling Hope and Josie that they’re “more evolved” than the girls who don’t speak to one another “just because you’re competing for the love of the same garden gnome.” (Meanwhile, Lizzie is definitely not too “evolved” to continue brainstorming brilliantly cutting nicknames for Landon.)

Days of Our Lives fans are so excited about things going down this last month of the year, but a lot of what is happening might not make that much sense. For one, we did get to see things taking a turn when Stefano and with Gina celebrating his return with a drink. We also have to say that we are a little bit saddened by most of this, since we thought that the man who played this man so well for so long was the only one who could do the job. He passed in 2017, and we don’t

Legacies fans — particularly those who sail aboard the good ‘ship “Hosie” — gasped in unison last week when Hope casually revealed that she once had a crush on Josie. (Lizzie also shared an extreme reaction, but it was considerably less celebratory.)

I’m glad that [the writers] established it in the real world, instead of in an alternate universe, so it can be a real thing.

There’s only a matter of weeks until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters, and the upcoming ninth main installment of the long-running sci-fi series is entering the final stages of ramping up the hype. Unsurprisingly, the movie is set to do huge business at the box office, and faces a delicate balancing act in both getting the fans firmly back on board after the polarizing reception to The Last Jedi, as well as tying up over 40 years’ worth of story threads into a satisfying conclusion.
However, despite the anticipation getting closer and closer to fever pitch, The Rise of Skywalker is no longer the most talked-about aspect of the expanded Star Wars universe. In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last while, The Mandalorian Baby Yoda has taken the internet by storm and stolen much of the online thunder from J.J. Abrams’ big finale.
