A horror anthology of varied worth...

Okay, well I wasn't really expecting "Ill: Final Contagium" to be an anthology, so that was a little bit of a disappointment for me. Of course, I could just have had read the movie synopsis before sitting down to watch it. But I was lured in by the movie's cover/poster, and the fact that it was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen.

Well, the various segments were of very various entertainment value, that much was for certain. Personally I enjoyed the second segment the most, the one with the boyfriend mooching on his grandmother and having become infected. Then in a second place was the one with the two ladies trying to swindle the man out of his valuables, at least it was the segment that had the most drive to it. The segment with the plastic surgery person was just a bit too much - but I found it to be a wonderful comedic take on a lot of people's unhealthy craving for achieving the perfect look. And the segment with the father and son was just plain boring.

However, I will say that the segment with the infected boyfriend in his grandmothers apartment was a bit too reminiscent of "The Fly", while the plastic surgery segment borrowed a bit from "The Re-Animator". So talk about lack of originality there, huh?

The acting in "Ill: Final Contagium" was adequate, so that definitely helped to carry the individual segments a great long way.

And the special effects in "Ill: Final Contagium" were actually good; well, good enough for a horror anthology as it turned out to be.

All in all, "Ill: Final Contagium" was watchable, but it was by no means an outstanding horror anthology, and I doubt it highly that I will ever return to watch it a second time.

My rating of this 2020 horror anthology settles on a less than mediocre four out of ten stars.

Episodemic

A nice pun - that I just thought of. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, while coming up with it a minute ago. On the other hand, I am not sure how much you are going to be able to enjoy the episodic nature of the three short movies you see here. There is a common thread and you will have to like horror at least.

That being said, there is something to be said about the episode of a woman trying to stay young - and doing everything she can to achieve that. Goind above and beyond. That is episode two of three. The first one is about the outbreak itself - where someone helps someone who he clearly should not be around ... let alone touch her and picking her up. This is so insane - on the other hand during the pandemic (less deadly thank God) we lived through, many people did things you'd exoect a sane human being not to do ... so who am I to say it does not make sense? Maybe you feel different.

And then we have the father and son thing ... which is kind of believable and might touch your heart more than it does others ... still overall decent at best. But good effects ...

Garbage

This is pure garbage.

It started out ok, but about 45 minutes into the movie it became something totally different. Problem is, I'm not sure what.

There's really no story to it. There should have been, but there wasn't.

Another worst horror film! Full of boring conversation, and super annoying overuse scene! Avoid at all cost!

This film start with a man break in a place, bring out a briefcase, and he flirting with two girls at the bar scene! As turnout, this film is about a series of people need to survive from the pandemic spread by a Chilean scientist! Entire film quite slow, full of boring conversation, and super annoying overuse scene! Such as, overuse of the blackout scene, overuse of the texting scene, overuse of the phone calling scene, overuse of the calling names scene, overuse of the dining scene, overuse of the searching things scene, and overuse of the vomit scene! Make the film unwatchable! Barely intense scene is, Connor's forearm been cut off! At the end, a father recording a video log, after fail to save his son! That's it! Wasting time to watch!

Better than I assumed it would be

This was a cheap pick up and I expected it to be terrible for the price, but I was pleasantly surprised. Not the best acting, story, etc and definitely not a 10/10 like that other review lol but there was a ton of really good gore and special effects and killer music. If you can find this streaming or cheap I'd recommend giving it a watch it just might surprise you.

Highly underrated and enjoyable topical anthology

Told in four parts, the story of a virus outbreak that occurs around the world taking place in Chile, Rome, Kosovo and Germany.

The Good Stor(ies): Contagium: After breaking into a warehouse, a stolen virus is unknowingly taken by a pair of con-artists robbing the recipient of the virus and are unwittingly contaminated. As the virus takes over and the authorities move in on the girls, they try to get away with their ill-gotten goods. This was a fantastic start to things. By giving an idea of the early life for the characters by showing the partying and fun at the club with the drunken hookups, this allows for the fun to begin as the accidental release during this night of drinking and debauchery. When it goes wrong and they're forced to run with everything including the tell-tale virus unknowingly, this one becomes quite dark immensely quickly as the rapid infection spreads through both of them incredibly quickly resulting in several great body-horror sequences. While not explaining how he came into possession of it or how the authorities knew so quickly, this is still an immensely enjoyable opener.

Gully: Responding to a new job application, a man stays home and tries to mooch through life with his girlfriend until he starts to become violently ill without any kind of respite. As he continues to deteriorate and drags her down the same path, his hubris eventually proves fatal. Overall, this was a solid continuation of the story. The early parts here with the fateful accident response and what it means for their relationships as his work struggles where he comes down with the illness while staying home are fine enough although the early stages of caring for him are slightly repetitive consisting of nothing but him coughing and wheezing without being able to keep anything down. The stupidity to not visit medical authorities when it becomes more serious than a persistent stomach virus is hard to explain, although that does provide some gruesome body-horror scenes as well as the financial decision to focus on their relationship rather than fix themselves medically.

The Body: Arrive for a new procedure, a woman undergoes a controversial surgical procedure and feels fine immediately afterward only to start realizing their body is breaking down over time. Desperate to keep going with her life in spite of this, she soon realizes it's impossible the worst it gets. There was a lot to like here. The opening, adding physical discomfort through the odd placements of the needless for the injections alongside the unease of the overall procedure itself is a fine introduction while also giving hints that something is happening. The revelation the next morning that her body is deteriorating and breaking opening has some chilling visuals that carry on throughout that show increasing levels of disfigurement in various parts of their body. Again, the one main drawback appears here again in the lack of urgency to get to trained medical facilities when something starts going wrong, which is an understandable approach but repetitive with the previous exploits.

The Bad Stor(ies): The Cabin: Desperate to save his infected son, a father takes him deep into the woods to keep him safe until he gets better or can find a curse. As time ticks on and her gets worse, the stress of the situation causes them to increasingly desperate acts of survival together. This is easily the weakest entry although it still has some merit to it. The main ploy here is the sense of urgency and desire to help his son as the idea of spending the first half trying to comfort him and get his son better while the quest to find an antidote when his outbreaks and meltdowns get worse resulting in the best gore effects in the segment. This does feel somewhat rushed in that, being the shortest there's no introduction to the two and just drops us into their lives without even telling us much of anything about who they are or what they're doing, rendering the finale not nearly as shocking as it could've been.

Rated Unrated/R: Extreme Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, Full Nudity and a sex scene.

A body horror gem for the ages

I saw this added to a movie app that I have and the poster really intrigued me. I saw it only had a 3.6 star rating on here so I was skeptical, but then I watched a trailer on YouTube to confirm whether it was worth watching or not, and it looked okay so I watched it. I didn't regret doing so. I see only 5 people have reviewed the movie in addition to a star rating as it stands, and 4 our of those 5 are 10/10. The rest of the ratings without commentary must have been relatively low given the 3.6/10 overall score. This could be because its pretty gross and unsettling to a degree that may be a little too much for some. Myself, I am giving it a solid 8. If you are a fan of grotesque body horror like Cabin Fever and Brain Dead and stuff along those lines, you won't wanna pass this up. I think it was an hour and a half well spent.

Alot better than doodoo apocalypse

This film consists of four segments from four different directors. All four directors are from different countries. One from Chile..one from Germany and two from Italy. I've never seen a folm like this where the story was about a deadly virus. The first three segments are pretty graphic and kind of disturbing. But overall...this is definitely an original film about contagious viruses. I would definitely recommend this one.

Very good movie, are zero-star bad comments fake?

I loved the movie and I would recommend it. Also, there is some good critic that shares my same good opinion. I read many bad comments down there, but I don't see the point to give one star to a very good work. Well done, guys!

Good graphics, I expecially enjoyed the second part of the movie but really liked the whole plot overall. I would advise that.
