I'm hooked
vadar766 June 2019
I wasn't prepared to like this show as much as I do. I know it's only early days, but thus far, I love it! I'm looking forward to see where they take the characters in terms of depth and development. The actors seem to bounce off each other well. And, seriously, how good is Kat Stewart? Good job guys.

5 people sharing a house
thunderloud29 June 2019
Sublime and yet so current. Everybody knows people like this. Then to have to live together respecting one another, (or not.) You usually make assumptions about others but really we all seem to have an opinion about how others should live when we really should not lie to ourselves, and find our own path. Each character is at a crossroads in their life. This is believable. Do they learn from each other and truly live? We shall see. Great acting. We should be able to relate to each character in some way.

Quirky and unique characters set to grow on us
All the characters are so unique and different but very relatable. The first episode did a great job of setting up the characters and the situation but with the foundations done, this series is now ready for lift off and I look forward to getting to know the five flatmates better. Excellent series.

Loved this show I hope there are new seasons coming!!!!! Scripts are great. Cast executes this beautifully. In a sea of reality overload this makes me switch off Netflix and Stan and come back to channel 10. Season two and more please !!!

... so far two-dozen episodes of best comedy-drama on-screen-today
bjarias7 February 2022
... problem with this series is that it just sets the entertainment bar so high, once you finish watching a season you just immediately-crave-more... many reviewers say that numerous shows would be better if there were just fewer episodes... Five Bedrooms is the exact opposite, you're-addicted, you need-want more & more

... Australia just gets it done right over & over again... most all these actors we've seen in Aussie programing before & they've most all been really good shows... everything across the board in this series is just really great work... all loving this series hope it continues on for absolutely as-long-as-possible.... bravo.

Great fun and cast

Love this show, if you ever lived in a shared house this will resonate. The only difference is these guys are 'adults' :) definately not cliched characters, just normal folk drawn together out of circustance and friendships.

Better than I thought

I'm on season 3 and have really enjoyed the series.

It is easy to watch , some parts are quite funny and there was one episode that had me howling. I do love a good Aussie TV show and this one hits the spot.

Ehh.......a little bit funny.....but.....
bengalakk5 October 2022
Ok, good casting and good acting (under the circomstances), but.....just started episode 8 series 1, and nothing really happens does it? I mean, how many times can one avoid telling actually ANYTHING to ANYONE?? Jeeez. Its all just to shallow for me. It could have been fun, but sorry, the script is just too thin. Its like The Dynasty or Falcon Crest, but without the evil characters. There's no evil her, just stupidness. And I don't mean naivity....just plain stupidness. Who on earth, 50 years old with 2 children, is so shocked by seeing a naked man, that she can not speak?? Really? Just annoying, all of it. I wonder who gives this series a 10/10? A housewife from the 60's?? Just saying. Sorry.

Promising start, but overreaches
joeykns12 June 2019
The first episode was a great start to the series, with a believable premise based on current issues. The key actors are talented and it's such a delight to watch them inhabit these characters. Unfortunately, the writing seems to be devolving and entering into the soapie realm with the story lines becoming a bit more over the top and far-fetched with each new episode. I like several of the actors so much and I so want to enjoy the series. I really hope the writers/producers/directors manage to rein it in so Five Bedrooms can live up to its promising start. I can't watch for much longer if this trajectory doesn't change.

So bland I didn't even notice the ad breaks
justinemckay-2478126 May 2019
Brilliant!! Seriously?? You are very easy to please! Brilliant is a word I'd use to describe Aussie shows like Rake and Wentworth - but not this drivel. One more thing - if I hear the word quirky one more time (in relation to Oz TV) I'll scream! Haven't we evolved past quirky yet, or are we just going to make endless versions of Offspring?

This is an absolute gem

I found this by complete accident on a rainy afternoon and thought - give it a go. I devoured the three episodes available. I laughed, I cried a lot ( episode 3, you have been warned) it is such a sweet, lovely programme. I like all the characters already. The acting is all great. I hope this goes on for a long time because they feel like friends!

Original content done with expertise
michaelrthomson29 August 2021
From the outset it was obvious this show would develop a following, the characters evolve and the story lines create engagement with each and every one, from the lead five, to the broader cast there is something here for everyone.

Kat Stewart who many will probably know from Offspring brings an entirely different yet familiar character, Doris Yonane brings an entirely loveable and often times entirely dislikable but relatable character whose comedic sense just enhances the experience, Katie Robertston plays the sweet and lovable one who time shows has a heart of steel and a depth of humanity and compassion that is compelling, Stephen Peacocke is the cliche tradie who gets the lady but who moderates the handsome rogue part with a deep charm and thoughtfulness, and Roy Joseph plays the somewhat confused and cliche gay role that also brings a story line that will be familiar to any other gay person over the age of 25 or from an ethnically not white family - each actor over two seasons that I've seen has grown more and more into their role, so much so that one really does become invested in their individual and collective story.

The writing is witty and fun, but also at times it is sad and evocative, in a very short series run this show covers many topics and it manages to do so in my opinion with style, grace and a lot of flair, whilst also being fairly realistic about the flaws and fabulously of people. I think these are each and together stories many of us will be able to relate to, to empathise with, and to grow attached to for these characters. I cannot wait for season 3.

Great escape

Warning: Spoilers
Very clever and timely. I had no idea the real estate prices were so high in Australia! I really needed something to erase all that's going on and to not think for an hour. As an older woman, I appreciate the "May-December " romance lol. Good job, I really hope there's a second season.

I like it but...

Warning: Spoilers
I love the idea, the characters and plot are good too. It went downhill with the relationship between a tradie being in love with a 50yr old. Not believable at all..Just a weird way to go. Yeah, have a fling but he wouldn't be in love.

Warning: Spoilers
I almost gave up on this show during the first episode. I'm so glad I didn't. The first 30 minutes aren't great, but it picks up in the second half of the episode. Later episodes are even better. Casting is spot on, but particular good with Kat Stewart. She's an amazing actor all-around, but especially good with characters whose world is turned upside-down.

appealing group
SnoopyStyle20 October 2023
Five single acquaintances are stuck at the singles table at a wedding. They look around at the married people and come up with the idea to buy a house together. Ainsley Elling is hopelessly in love with her married real estate agent partner Lachlan Best. Her former landlord Heather Doyle is trying to escape her marriage. Ben is a crass construction worker. Liz is an uptight divorced lawyer. Harry Sethi is a gay doctor who still hasn't come out to his mother.

The concept is a little convoluted. It can be a little soapy. Nevertheless, the friendships are well done and this is an appealing group. I really like these characters. This Australian show lasted four seasons. It's probably good enough. The group feels like a graduating class who needs to move on by the end of the show.

Good Clean Aussie Fun!

Everything about this show is spot in! Character development is at the right pace. And they're all likeable. And those that keep banging on about "Offspring ripoff". So what. Dysfunctional friends & family always make the best TV 😊

Cliched characters and average acting
prettymuchalways16 May 2019
Cliched characters and very average acting. Apart from Kat Stewart who is always great. The 4 stars are just for her! I expected more from the creators of Offspring who had such an interesting and likeable main character. The main girl in 5 bedrooms is cliched, not believable and just annoying.

Another Brilliant Australian show!
EllieLouiseF14 August 2021
Loved this show so much, I did not want it to end! One of the best shows I've seen out of Aus in a long time. Amazing writing full of great banter, laughter and occasional tears - I found myself laughing so much throughout this show, it was so refreshing! The acting and performances of all these characters were brilliant, they felt real, raw, messy and genuine. It was honest and realistic & touched on issues such as relationships, sex, gender, race & class. It reminded me of when I first watched Offspring and fell in love it and the characters yet five bedrooms is unique in its own way. The situation of singles living in the same place felt relatable and a lot like life in Sydney but made me wish I had found my five crazy roommates to share a house with. This is the kind of drama we need to keep bringing to Aussie screens. I hope this show continues & that we can produce more great shows like this for our Aussie actors!

Brilliantly Easy TV
just_jayne0113 June 2020
I lived this series from episode one and binge watched it on On Demand over a few evenings. It has an excellent cast, some recognisable from other Aussie soaps, and really good stories around the housemates. I hope there's a second, third, fourth (you get the picture) series!

Unusual Storyline but works.
honeymel24 May 2022
I binge watched the whole 3 series. The first 2 series were shown on BBC1 in the UK in April and I got hooked. Season 3 was released yesterday and I have binged the whole 8 episodes over 2 days. You become so invested in their lives. 5 unlikely housemates but they work.

I can't say which character is my favourite because they all have their own attributes. Stick with it, it gets better as time goes on, like a vintage wine.

The conclusion of season 3 leaves you wanting more. Especially for Heather and Ben.
