Yes, this episode's situation at the hospital seems highly unlikely but it could theoretically happen. In the IT world, we had written plans for all possible scenarios, even one in a million. I really liked this episode and the way they handled each crisis. I love the humanity shown in this series. My experience in real life is that medical professionals are not this caring, probably not this skilled, so I enjoy watching.what should happen in the medical world.

An Exciting, Beautiful Episode

I am not the type who watches rom com types shows. If it doesn't have dragons or aliens I usually steer clear. But I really liked Ryan Eggold in Blacklist so I started watching New Amsterdam. I've been blown away by the raw emotion, the tackling of tough issues we are facing, especially concerning health care. Every actor in this show does a stellar job and each episode is better than the last. This episode grabbed me and I loved every minute.
They should fire their consultants

I have no idea what kind of consultants the producers are using, but they either have no clue how a hospital is working, or they just don't give a damn about the truth.
Part of the accreditation process, every hospital in the US must pass a Joint Commission inspection (every three years). The hospital must perform an yearly manufacturer generator load test, weekly inspections of generators and batteries, 30-minute load test monthly, and monthly transfer switch testing. If their generators are diesel-fueled, they must have enough diesel in their tanks to provide back-up power for 96 hours.
Over the top

Lack of reality.

Warning: Spoilers
I think I am a bit confused. The whole episode is - to me - a series of unlikely situations, speaking on the technological side.
Is it really possible a huge hospital hasn't the minimum standard of safety in case of power blackout?
Is it possible there is only one electrician available in case of malfunctions?
Is it really believable a whole city like New York remains without electricity for a snow blizzard?
I understand it's a show and the stories have to be written as more dramatically as can be done... but they should be realistic, too.
This being said, I always appreciate Ryan Eggold's talent.

Disappointed

Melodramatic

Warning: Spoilers
Such a strange, melodramatic failure of an episode that could have been much better. The realistic part was directed so much time and effort to save one whiny adult patient while other patients (including children) were at risk.
