From excellent episode 1 to so-so episode
kriscgis16 December 2019
Episode one has a good tight script, fast-paced, attractive cast. Excellent drama.

Episode two - the character Esther doesn't ring true to the one in Episode one (now an adult) - overdressed, over made-up and poor acting. Valentina is excellent, as is Adela. The father is brilliant.

Episode three - it all begins to fall apart. The script and plot is good but the actors are dreadful. Valentina, now much aged, looks more like Esther from Episode two. But what has happened to the beautiful sultry Esther from episode two? She looks completely different: fat, bloated and sedate. Plot could have been superb and deeply moving but the actors are dire. Especially Adela.

Nice miniseries but quickly fell off.

Like most spanish series I have seen on netflix, they always deliver on production and visuals.

This one is no exception and it's lovely to see and has a very attractive cast. The first two episodes are stories within themselves that slightly bleed into each other and begin and end fairly well. The third episode however I felt absolutely no connection to the first two. They seemed to try too hard. I understand they used some very famous actresses in the last episode but they did not make this episode shine..

The first two episodes were a testament to the times and showed character. If you're an English speaker the dub over might be weird and nonsensical because they use quite a bit of slang. I am learning spanish so I did not witness the English dubbing first hand.

Slow burnt but worth the wait.

For those familiar with Spanish acting will know that this is series is an ensemble cast of some of the finest Spanish actors. The four leads in the final episode are pure Spanish acting royalty.

The show is a slow burnt until the final episode where everything is revealed and which contains the best acting of n the show with dramatic and funny moments in equal measure. Highly recommended.

Great ensemble of Spanish actresses!!!
tizidadda9 December 2019
Lovely miniseries, the actresses are all great, starting from those who perform the sisters in childhood, passing through those that interpret them in the adulthood, to reach the apotheosis in their senior age. Angela Molina, Veronica Forquè, Charo Lopez, Victoria Abril and, last but not least, Suzi Sanchez in a secundary but very important role. Not to forget Alicia Borrachero as their mother, the only actress performing in two out of three episodes, getting older with make-up and talented interpretation. I recommend to watch this miniseries, for the script, the interpretation of all actresses and for the director's ability.

Stupid time waster, don't be fooled
midphx24 December 2020
The first episode was interesting and intriguing. It was really enjoyable. We watched the second to find out "what happened?" It was full of over-the-top drama, but we still wanted our questions answered. The third episode was like a frat party: you go in looking for a good time, then it gets crazy, then you must suffer a majorly painful hangover. The third episode is telenovela stupid. Overly dramatic, unsatisfying story lines, regret for spending this much time to get to the end, wishing I could get that time back. We got some answers, sort of, but was it worth it? A loud, firm NO!!! Very stupid. Very unsatisfying.

A really good show for a prechristmas sunday evening with a tea and some speculatius. Good mix of drama, great acting and an arthousy cinematography!

Absolute nosense
nacho-oncina10 December 2019
I began to watch the series attracted by its great cast of actresses, which a priori caught attention. But as it progressed everything became a real nonsense: the story is unlikely and forced, the script sometimes you do not know if it is a joke or not (OMG with some dialogues), and the performances are at a level of school theater played on Christmas event. And with some over acting that makes you wonder why you waste your time watching this. The only one thing that saves the series to burn it at the stake is the performance of veteran actresses. In short, totally expendable.

A well made classic series
pritypoddar10 April 2020
Large, well built, secluded and surrounded by beautiful snow capped mountains - this is the family home where four sisters joined by a childhood secret, celebrate Christmas at three distinct phases of their lives i.e. during their - teens as daughters, adulthood as mothers and elderly age as grandmothers.

It's a well made classic series, showing the conservative and anticipatory atmosphere post World War II. Interpersonal relationship and antics of the kid sisters is a gleeful watch.

Couldn't do it...
summersky_srmmh-ssss23 December 2019
I (we) started watching these three episodes because we all like to find new Christmas shows to watch. These however, were almost impossible. We kept getting caught up in the bad dubbing of everyone's voices. There were also a lot of scenes that seemed completely nonsensical. There are some good actors but all-in-all in my opinion, It was all making it way too difficult for us to just relax and enjoy it...

Shocking waste of time

The first episode was excellent!! The second episode the only saving Grace was the actress who plays Valentina, she did a great job. The third was just awkward and weird to watch.

Thank you Francisco Franco.
alecasand16 August 2021
Definitely the Spanish film industry must be very grateful to Franco, more than half century and they continue to take advantage of the same plot, over and over, it is already very boring, creativity, zero.

Cute actresses, but what's going on?
Racingphan217 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Netflix spends a lot of money on these Spanish productions, then about ten cents dubbing them into English. The over dub actors are flat and lifeless, and suck all the joy out of the performances.

This is a three part miniseries, each set years apart. The first episode was actually very dramatic and fun to watch, but the other two are a hard to follow mess.

That's all I have, but this website demands a lot of characters to fill out every review, which is pure horse plop. I still have a hundred characters to go before they let me post this review. Have you seen the new Wonka movie? Hugh Grant is amazing.
