One of the most beautiful episodes in a long time
itsame_kaia27 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I went into this episode not expecting much. I've enjoyed the previous three episodes - especially last week's trip-tacular Carol spotlight - but the trailers made it out like this would be a building episode that did little to advance the season's story. Maybe that's a part of the reason why I loved it as much as I did.

This episode has the same feeling that the early seasons did - a raw emotion and a 'human' feel that was a large reason I and so many fell in love with the show in the first place. I think it was in the direction. Michael Cudlitz (Abraham himself) knocked this episode out of the park. I wasn't sure what to think of his episode last season (9x07), mainly because it was one of the more uneventful, slower episodes which seemed to give him little to work with. It was also his directorial debut so of course he would have needed some time to feel things out. With this episode, though, it's clear that he has a natural talent for this sort of thing, so much so that I'd call him one of the best directors to ever work on the show. The cinematography has been great this season, but here it was even better, even fresher. "Fresh" is the term I would use to describe Cudlitz's direction here - it felt like the kind of kinetic, dynamic episodes of Seasons 1-6 but with all the greatness of the Angela Kang era to complement it.

Aside from the direction, this episode was just a very moving, emotional one in general. From Lydia's struggle to fit into Alexandria, to Negan's attempt to do the right thing backfiring more than anyone could have guessed, to Ezekiel dealing with the loss of his identity and his family. The way all these storylines were handled and every character reacted to their own unique situations felt very raw and very real. It was all bookended by the amazing cold open and closing scene, with great use of the song "Heaven I Know" by Gordi - great use of music is another huge thing that was brought back to the show by Angela Kang. Seeing all the characters deal with their individual issues this episode - Carol's trauma, Siddiq's PTSD, Daryl's struggle to remain connected to those he loves, and more - make everyone feel more connected to each other than they have since we were following Rick's family on the road in Seasons 4-5.

So far, this season has been strong, and this is the first truly great episode to come out of it, in my opinion. For me, it's given the season a renewed sense of focus, leaving me extremely excited for what's to come - and delivering one of the best episodes of the post-Rick era.

Visually stunning episode with some great acting
Holt34429 October 2019
The veteran TWD actor Michael Cudlitz returns in the director chair, his last time directing was a great episode and he did it again, delivering a visually stunning episode with great direction and beautiful shot with excellent cinematography. The episode has some great writing, they have teased the Silence the Whisperers storyline since the trailer and seeing it play out in front of us was perfect, in my opinion better than the comic book storyline of the Silence the Whisperers. Showing us the darkness and revenge the people has and want, it's realistic. With the writing, visual story telling and the acting makes it all feel very real, making the Whisperer War more unique and fleshed out as it shows horror at the home front and at the wilderness. I really believe that this whole story arc will be better than the graphic novel's. The walker kills of this episode was entertaining and brutal which it should be, were also some really good makeup and prosthetics for the zombies as it always is.

The acting was spectacular, everyone giving excellent performances. Cassady McClincy really shined as her character was one of the main characters that we followed through the episode and she did good! Danai Gurira keeps giving us a magnificent performance, being the true next Rick Grimes

So What Did We Learn Tonight?
sevenlilxenos28 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Daryl's extensive skill set includes of all things room service.

Magna and Yumiko are really good friends especially when the lights go out.

Without Maggie the Hilltop is kinda rudderless when stuff starts going sideways.

Zoned out Kings are kinda emo and depressing to be around especially when they want a kiss.

Negan and Lydia are finding out the hard way that its not easy to fit in when either you or your mother killed alot of people who your new group were close to.

PTSD knows PTSD and a little humor helps.

Unless you are with Daryl in the woods, eviscerating a large rodent during dinner is considered bad manners.

Negan telling Daryl that he was putting a stop to child abuse was a smart move.

Its a good thing that Walkers move slow when there are alot of them coming at your group.

Nothing like a little girl with a small sword killing multiple dead people to remind you its all fiction.

Its funny when a music teacher checks Eugenius' eccentric verbiage.

Should be interesting to see when Negan pops back up, my guess is that it will be just in time to save someone from a Walker or Whisperer.

Best Line: Hes gone.

Still waiting for "that" episode
mkystraightedge27 October 2019
Okay, not a bad episode and I get what they're trying to do, mostly. Psychological aspects resulting from the events are being heavily worked, since the beginning of the season. But the dialogues are really predictable and it's like; yeah I could think myself that they are having conversations about these kinda stuff generally. What I mean by saying that is, a lot of scenes are kinda a bit meaningless because they're not very powerful as they meant to be. Yeah, you could do a lot of dialogues but you have to deliver these type of dialogues as somewhat "powerful" and "essential". 4 episodes over, the story moves a bit slow and I'm waiting for the "breakthrough" episode. But still, the things happening around are generally interesting, therefore it is 7/10.

The weakest episode but still great
davisond-9573027 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
From the trailers I thought this was gunna be a badass episode. A tree has fallen down on the fences of Hilltop, people are severely injured and a lot of walkers are nearby. Unfortunately this didn't take much of the episodes run time.

So did the wind bring the tree down? Or was it the whisperers?

Their is a lot of nice scenes throughout like Michonne and Ezekiels little kiss, Judith and Michonnes conversation about RJ and the scenes between Daryl and Lydia.

Negan is a much bigger focus than last season which I like and it is more shown than ever during this episode when he saved Lydia from the angry Alexandrians still wanting revenge for the pikes who injure her severely and Negan accidentally kills one of the people.

Daryl and Negan get a lot of tense scenes and eventually he escapes his cell as someone lets him out but who?

Something happened...not a whole lot, but at least not another episode that you could entirely skip and not miss anything.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the only cool thing about this show. He looks and acts awesome and pretty sure he is the only thing that motivates me to watch this show.

Best episode since Rick left
meerm16 November 2019
This is probably the best episode since Rick left. I've been gradually losing interest in this show, finding myself picking up my phone half way through, but this one caught my attention. The stakes were real, it focused on where the real threats were in a meaningful way. The action scenes were well shot and served a purpose, without the silly contrived scenarios that have been creeping in lately. Let's hope they give Michael Cudlitz more opportunities to use his directing talents. "Silence the Whisperers" reminds us that this show is about real human beings, not superheroes, and it's given me a reason to keep watching.

A Black Kiss
ZegMaarJus14 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode begins with Michonne, she eats dinner together with Judith and R. J. A tree fell down, 9 people are injured. Ezekiel kisses Michonne. Lydia got knocked down by Margo. Negan saved Lydia, Rodney wanted to kill her. Margo died after Negan pushed him. Michonne helps to protect their land. Gabriel discovered that Negan is gone. Luke leaves the group. Solid episode of The Walking Dead Season 10, this episode didn't help the storyline further. Sloppy performance. Many characters are so annoying, like Magna.

A weird episode
joshuadavid-247242 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
"Silence The Whisperers", written by Geraldine Inoa and directed by Michael Cudlitz, who has directed other episodes, such as 9x07 ("stradivarius") - unfortunately is an erratic episode, where everything happens quickly.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan continues as well as Negan, who in the episode is well-used in the Alexandria core - having a cool interaction with Lydia, who in rare cases accidentally kills one of the teenager's aggressors, and in turn generates a twist - very interesting among the characters. But that's the problem, while the episode could have been less scripted, that's not the case, causing some 'weirdness'.

So let's get to the problems, for a start, for the weird montage - like some moments composed of a song used between the beginning and end, which is not very well used, because some cores of the episode are misused. As for example, the interaction between Michonne and Ezekiel - character without any plot, who is in difficult situations after numerous losses, had no intention except the kiss between the two, not even giving evidence of a relationship, ah not be in another universe (a reference to comics). Plus, out of nowhere Daryl shows up to Lydia and Negan - in prison in a timely cut. The fight against the zombies in Hilltop was also strange, while it is in a worrying situation due to the chaos caused by the fall of a tree on the community wall. I didn't quite understand what was going on there - it was poorly executed and badly beaten. very easy. Magna is another, a completely wasted character, without any interesting plot, putting her in unattractive creative situations (by the way what about her initial scene with Yumiko?).

But the episode nonetheless featured some cool stuff - said that, a very good text between Lydia and Daryl - who is responsible for the teenager - who insists that her place is with him and his people, implying that he feels safe in the community - and after pretending that she was the one who released Negan - including, a totally anti-climate scene, discovered by Father Gabriel.

Anyway, a weak episode, which presents some hits, but many mistakes in a hurried and worrying script. We believe the next episode will probably redeem itself, delivering something better than this room. But since Negan is on the loose - and for those who wait for comics moments on the show, they tend to get excited.

How!?
garrettmrmagic29 October 2019
How does this show manage to stay so good!? The plot is great! The acting is great! The writing is great! And the whole show is great! I don't get why people feel the need to give it bad reviews just to bring down the shows overall score! It's so annoying! It doesn't have to be a 45 minute nonstop battle to be great! Please just actually watch the show and understand the beauty of it and give it the score it deserves!

Boring but intense
yahaira-729-69470120 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Not sure where things are going this season seems disjointed. Lydia is not f I tting in with the sore heads at Alexandria. Daryl is trying to keep Lydia safe. Negan rises to the occasion by saving Lydia from the rougue mob who want to kill Negan cos those punks. The new comers take a leadership role at Hilltop and help defend Hilltop which was hit by a hoard of walkers who are still a threat. Yumiko is showing her leadership skills. Lydia claims she lets Negan out, but there is another plan afoot. Lydia is the scapegoat for the cowards at Alexandria. The king losses his pride at Hilltop. Luke goes to Oceanside not sure why as he is a minor player.. not sure why the new group is important. Carol who is loosing her mind remains behind the scenes.

Some Bullies You Gotta Fight
ThomasDrufke28 October 2019
I really love how you can feel the presence of The Whisperers without seeing them on screen all that much. Alpha has had, what, a few scenes all season besides the episode that almost entirely Whisperer based? This week there was paranoia, chaos, destruction, and we weren't even certain if much of it was caused by The Whisperers. I appreciated the theatricality of Negan a good bit, but there's something so refreshing about this storyline.

We got to spend more time with Cassady Mcclincy's 'Lydia' this week as she was constantly targeted by bitter survivors, who knew many victims of Whisperer attacks. If the somewhat contrived attack on Lydia was the roundabout way to get Negan out of his cell then I'm all for it. It was pretty awesome to see him protect another 'outsider' like that and I have even found myself rooting for him? Never thought I would say that.

Speaking of someone who hasn't had a ton of Negan interaction this year, Judith had a few great scenes this week. One being when she fought side by side with Michonne as they assisted Hilltop once the wall came down. The other, being the controversation about how there are some bullies that need to be fought, which seemed to be the overarching theme this week, and maybe even the season as a whole. Does Negan's escape mean he will cross paths with Alpha? Is he simply just looking for Lucille?

We're already 1/4th of the way through this season and I'm still curious as to how the structure is going to play out, especially with the departure of Michonne and the apparent re-addition of Maggie at some point. And will the Whisperers ultimately be wrapped up by the Spring or will they drag this storyline on like they did with The Saviors? Whatever the case may be, the season is once again shaping out to be another impressive arc for the show.

de explores the aftermath of the Whisperers' attack on Hilltop, with the community reeling from the loss of several members
fernandoschiavi29 March 2024
At Hilltop, a tree collapses and knocks down the wall; the survivors defend the community from an invasion of walkers. As it is believed that the tree was knocked over by the Whisperers, Lydia is attacked by a group of Alexandrians; Negan saves her, accidentally killing one of the attackers in the process. The council is conflicted on what to do with Negan, but Negan goes missing, putting the community on high alert. A depressed Ezekiel nearly attempts suicide, but Michonne intervenes. Michonne, Judith, Luke, and others travel to Oceanside to help the community with walkers.

"Silence the Whisperers" delves deeper into the psychological warfare between the survivors and the Whisperers. The episode explores the aftermath of the Whisperers' attack on Hilltop, with the community reeling from the loss of several members. This loss sparks a debate within the group about how to handle the Whisperer threat, leading to tensions and divisions among the survivors.

One of the standout scenes in "Silence the Whisperers" is the confrontation between Lydia and Negan, where Negan offers Lydia a chance for revenge against Alpha. This scene highlights the complex dynamics at play within the Whisperers and sets the stage for future developments. The episode also continues to develop the theme of fear and its impact on the survivors, as they struggle to maintain their humanity in the face of constant danger.

Ultimately, "Silence the Whisperers" is a tense and emotionally charged episode that sets up future conflicts while deepening our understanding of the characters and their motivations. It is a testament to the show's ability to create complex and nuanced narratives that keep viewers engaged and invested in the story.

Lydia and Negan
claudio_carvalho27 October 2019
The outcast Lydia is badly treated by three Alexandrians. When Negan saves her from an attack, the life changes in Alexandria. Meanwhile Michonne and a group of Alexandrians head to Hilltop to save survivors of a collapsed wall.

"Silence the Whisperers" is an episode where the outcast Lydia and Negan are lead characters. The despicable Negan may have changed but it is hard for the Alexandrians to support him. But Lydia is a key character for this season and only Michonne has understood her importance. It might be terrible be bullied all the time especially in a post-apocalypse world. But the greatest problem is still the human race despite of the walkers. How many people had died in confrontation with the "human beings" along ten seasons? My vote is eight.

Title (Brazil): "Acabe com os Sussuradores" ("Finish the Whisperers")

Note: On 08 January 2024, I saw this episode again.

So impressed with Michael Cudlitz's direction!
marienrnz28 October 2019
I had to see who directed this episode because the direction was superb! The cinematography and the shots that were taken were very impressive. I believe this episode had everything: romance, unbelievable suspense, conflict, moments of cheering and sadness. Definitely left me wondering what is next to come in many storylines!

It's a mess. A broken, disjointed mess.
ueltomas29 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Zombies would rather walk into a wall than go after the dumb people two feet away. Don't break you're own rules. They're The Walking Dead FFS, just walk slightly faster and lead the zombies away. Same thing with the Alexandrian siege. Far too much vagueness is happening, we need more information not sappy montages. Obviously the writers couldn't work out how Ezekiel could go from I'm a good kisser to by the way Hilltop is under attack so they skip that dialogue like they do with everything. They leave it to Carol who just casually mentions to Daryl that Hilltop's having trouble with a tree before cutting back to it. Another melodramatic fight like Eugene and Rosita had last episode to pad the runtime."You're not my lawyer anymore," could be relevant to a backstory we got last season, I don't know and I don't care.

An episode that sets up a lot of stuff
dayolo-4605928 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, this episode was interesting. When I saw the trailer I thought it would be a lot more actioned packed, a less dialogued based episode. So my expectations were high. Let's get into the pros and cons!

Pros: -the soundtracks were good in this episode (man they are really going for music this season) -I loved the part where Lydia just skins a squirrel for revenge lmao -Lydia being saved by negan was great -HOLY crap NEGAN IS ALREADY HEADING TO ALPHA

Cons -without certain scenes, this episode would have BEEN BOOORINNG. -that michonne and Ezekiel scene was kinda unnecessary -hilltop battle was disappointing

Extra I have a feeling Luke's gonna die because they focus on him a lot this epi. Water tower death maybe?

Overall I would say it's the weakest episode of season 10, but 10x5 looks great!

Best episode of the season so far
chrisboringlife27 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Despite a lesser amount of walkers, a very captivating episode. Great Walking Dead aura!

The King finally opens up a bit about all he lost a few seasons back.

More Negan is always better, Hilltop is in dire need of a good leader, great twist would be if he fled there and gain control, it is about time his natural leader role takes over from the prisoner role after all this time... But how to gain the trust of the people?

I feel like Carol freed Negan and maybe they invite Darryl for a assassination mission!

Can't help but feel great episodes ahead!
