The movie is totally disingenuous and doesn't thoroughly explain what Miss Patel actually did and was convicted/sentenced for. She took abortion pills, but then delivered a live baby, and then left it to die. Whatever you think about reproductive rights, we should all be able to agree that it's not ok to put your own newborn baby in a dumpster, and if anything should be a crime, it's that.
It's difficult to feel sympathy for a woman who literally killed her own baby then rushed off to get herself the medical care she couldn't be bothered getting for the infant she left in a dumpster. 20 years in jail is a pretty light sentence for premeditated infanticide...
