After watching over 400 films in the span of just around four months, director Frank Beauvais reflects on his life and what led to this cinematic hibernation in Just Don’t Think I’ll Scream, an impressive, rapidly-edited, and deeply personal cinematic essay.
Created solely from clips of the films he watched, it’s far from the kind of video essays that dominate YouTube, rather selecting the briefest of moments, and usually the least-recognizable of shots, in crafting this self-exploration of a reflective, questioning mind.
Ahead of an April release, KimStim has now released the first U.S. trailer for the film which premiered at last year’s Berlin International Film Festival and has played at Art of the Real, Cinéma du Réel, Doclisboa, Mar Del Plata, Torino, and more.
See the trailer and poster below, along with a conversation with the director.

Above: You Have the Night. Art by Valeria Alvarez.Last month, the three year old Black Canvas Festival de Cine Contemporáneo in Mexico City unveiled an interesting project. The festival commissioned eleven young female Mexican (or Mexico-based) artists and illustrators to create alternative posters for the films in their New Horizon competition (a section devoted to debut or sophomore films by international filmmakers). The results, which were exhibited during the festival, are in an exciting variety of styles—from monochrome pen and ink to colorful vector graphics to needlepoint (!)—and give us a chance to get to know a group of young, talented female artists.
