Delicate rom-com

it's a lovely romantic comedy, and there are so few of those nowadays. When you start caring for the characters it really pulls you in. It's highly enjoyable and very realistic, definitely recommended.

Way to Go Fahim!!

Never thought one of the best, honest, EXTRA-ordinary, witty, lovely Bangla Films would come out of ITALY!! Hats off actor & director Phaim Bhuiyan.

"Bangla" successfully depicts the coming of age, cultural, religious, personal identity struggle of the 2nd generation immigrants! A nice portrayal of the hard working Bangladeshi diaspora in Western Europe too!

Cute movie!

Warning: Spoilers
Bangla is a quirky romcom variant set in rome. it is about an italian/bangladeshi boy who falls in love with an italian girl. it's that simple really but there are lots of jokes to be had.

phaim, the boy, works as a museum assistant (my best mate used to do that!) and is in a band ... which wants play ethno-trap (haha) yet ends up playing more traditional styles at weddings and the like.

the protagonist is also the writer/director (phaim bhuiyan). he is 23 and this is his first film... he seems like a real talent!

purely by chance ( having discussed the huge pantanelli occupation recently ) i was aware of the bangladeshi migrations to rome and it was interesting to see a film interrogating that particular hybrid identity. the character says he is a "cappucino" : 50% italian 50% bangladeshi, 100% torpigno.

what i liked a lot was the guy really had the same mannerisms and expressions as a friend of mine from rome.. hooded eyes, shifting shoulders after talking, little grin, saying "basta" and "eh" a lot. it was really cute! must be a rome thing.

torpignattara looks amazing! the cinematography and editing is topnotch. and the description of the three local gangs is hilarious. they are foreigners, hipsters and old people.

It was coming of age movie never expected to be good, it was funny and savvy movie. Go watch it betta than bend it like beckham this one goes further showing how can two cultures weirdly mesh and become third culture. It was funny when he tried to pick the lady up and meeting the parents which was funny in its own way. Good thing is hapenning these kid of movies show third culture kids growign up and shows how they gel and grow up to be part of the country they gew up in. Watch it an d give it a go as this movie got hit and is made in series which all south asian people are proud of and emulate.
