"Dertigers" follows the lives of six main characters in their mid-thirties, who became friends as students in Antwerp, and who have kept the friendship going and their lives intertwined for well over a decade, against the backdrop of a shared tragedy which binds them together, yet at the same time threatens to tear them apart. The series is written in a hyperrealistic way: no soapy clichés, complex intrigues or spectacular stunts, but an unfiltered look at everyday life in all its glory, ugliness and everything in between. The characters are instantly recognizable, warts and all, the acting is top-notch across the board, and the dialogues flow as natural as the last chat you had with a friend or your last lovers' tiff. The characters' homes look so true to life you could easily imagine yourself living there (it does indeed look and feel like actual houses and interiors were used instead of studio sets), and the rich variety in scenery offered by the city itself makes Antwerp stand out and sparkle like a diamond. A mere week after the series' launch, the decision to renew it for a second series was announced - a testament to the talent off all those involved in its creation.
