Enter the CRM
ninjaboyballer1 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a decent one. Until the end it was a stand-alone Althea episode, which I didn't mind. But I just wish it was different. The information we got about the CRM is little but it gives us an idea(at least a picture) of what these people are about. And what is in store for Rick in his movies. The character Isabelle is an interesting one, who brings interesting dialogue and ideas about herself, her group, and the world they live in. She and Althea had an engaging interaction together, but I didn't expect that lesbian kiss at the end. I mean I sorta felt the connection but not enough. Isabelle leaves by the end and Althea is reunited with Morgan and Alicia, but I feel like the CRM stuff is not over with and will be somehow related to the mid-season finale, which is titled "Is Anybody Out There?". So I'll see how that goes.

In conclusion, this another solid episode that has and entertaining interaction with Althea and Isabelle and reveals a bit more about this mysterious organization. Although I wanted more stuff revealed and didn't really see the romantic connection between the 2 characters of Althea and Isabelle

The Beginning of Everything, a well directed and acted episode that expands the world
Holt3441 July 2019
This episode is recommended for fans of either show or just interested in the The Walking Dead universe and the showrunners, crew and cast did amazing from the locations, action sequences, drama and the acting. Phenomenal writing in this episode which was needed as what they were trying to do and it was a success. I really found the high focus on Althea necessary for two reasons, we finally got to see her grow as a character and learn new things about her which makes you understand her and the other thing being Maggie Grace have the acting capability of doing a solo episode which resulted in one of the season's best episodes. The crew behind the episode delivered suspense and great character development.

We learnt a lot in this episode, information that is useful for one of the show's heroes and the other thing is of course the three circle community, they did a great job at giving us a wider picture of who they are and they got me really hyped for the Rick Grimes movies.

Isabelle

Actually Isabelle is a returning and could be very important character in future eps. Could this secret place be where Rick was taken?

Great episode for Al's character
ciudadcity1 July 2019
I really liked this episode, especially the character development for Al. Getting some info from the character's past life is always something I appreciate! Good stuff. I read that Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori from TWD) directed this episode - but the credits told me otherwise, Michael E. Satrazemis directed it. He did a decent job!

Very good character moments; the climbing action was lit
maxibaxi1 July 2019
Yet again I enjoyed this episode of season 5. Very solid season so far, at least for me. I wonder why some people who clearly hate this franchise are wasting their time with this... Anyways, Al is one of my favorite characters and Maggie Grace delivers a great performance in this episode. Isabelle is an interesting new entry to the show and I really hope we'll see more of her in the future. The actress (Sydney Lemmon) did a fantastic job. The whole climbing action had me on edge and I liked how the scene was directed. Definitely a thrilling moment! I hope that wasn't the last thing we saw from the helicopter people on FTWD. That'd be disappointing.

not forward or back,
Rob-O-Cop1 July 2019
There's potential here, to get out of this vicious circle of frontier existence loops that after 8 years are the only thing they could be, repetitive, and the 3 circle story line offers to take it somewhere different for a change. I liked the climbing sequence a bit of change of scenery is good after all. There was an attempt to explore Althea's character set up, (the diligent reporter who has to get the story), and a bit of back story about her brother and how he died because of her driving force, but it was kind of rushed through and didn't really ring solidly. There were a few badly set up and delivered details in this one. The bite proof vest just when Althea gets her first bite, after knowing better for her entire existence in the WD world, loosing a boot, the obligatory beer sponsorship placement in the top of the mountain to follow the 'beer solves everything and is civilisation' theme, I liked watching an Althea based story, she's an interesting character and a good actor but we're back to the characters not being given good enough material to deliver. I'm not feeling her driving force to record the history of people so their lives mean something, which is a great theme to think about. Then the lesbian kiss scene, which rather than be a wow moment came across as dragging out another overdone trope, it's been used so often on shows now it feels lazy. This episode doesn't have a credited writer on it, just a bunch of story editors and a staff writer David Johnson so we can't surmise who's delivering and not delivering from this. Ashley Cardiff who did deliver a couple of episodes back was executive story editor so it did pass through her desk, so, not quite as optimistic as I was a couple of weeks ago, but, it wasn't garbage, so that's something.

Furthering Ricks story
reddragon-977031 July 2019
This episode is the first that's given any insight into the various mysterious reasons that Rick disappeared. It's a fascinating watch. It also does a great job developing Al's character in a meaningful way.

More is revealed about the mysterious military group but a little slow moving.
cruise011 July 2019
Fear the Walking Dead

Episode 5.05 (3 out of 5 stars).

The weakest slow moving episode so far. Almost feels like an episode filler of the season. Which it Follows Al (Maggie Grace) after she was taken captive by a militarized person. Which reveals to be a lady Isabelle. They both share their side of the stories. Which Al is all about trying to uncover untold stories. And we also learn a little about Al and her past. Which is no fun surprises at all. Al and Isabelle spending most of the episode going one place to another to get fuel for the helicopter. And coming across a few zombies and storytelling. This episode was slow. No progression to the plot. The villain of the season which may be this militarized group is still forgettable and weak. This season really needs to pick up the pace of its forgettable season.

Vertigo!
starsurfer832 July 2019
Some well deserved character development for Althea in this episode. I love these episodes that focus on one character, because it gives us time to get to know them better and thus care for them more when they're put through endless life and death situations.

As the franchise keeps doing through the years, this episode gives us some spectacular thrills and drama with a harrowing rock climbing sequence. Great camera work!

I don't like AL but good episode
eberkerbatur17 July 2019
I didn't like the last 2 episodes and I was very bored, but this episode time passed faster I don't really like the character Althea, but I think this section was good. I couldn't love the character al since joining the show it seems like there are many unnecessary gestures passed over her in this section but it was better than other sections. the series started very heavy season, hopefully comes with much better sections

Well, FTWD keeps getting worse!
mihmichael7 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Althea is kidnapped, gets some beating, manages to turn things around but - no, I don't need to kill the person who wanted to kill me, no I don't need the chopper, yes I trust that person so I sleep like a baby and give up the weapons, no I don't want to know about that well-organized community, I'll just lie to my friends and let those people keep on killing & do whatever they want, not my business. It is such a shame that FTWD turned into pathetic soap opera, it is such a shame it did not get cancelled after two seasons.

season 5: SOLID!
majomei1 July 2019
Where to begin, wow. i like season 5 very very much (so far). althea is such a cool and fresh character, i adore her. my sister and i love the isabol-althea-dynamic and it is a nice fresh touch. some might feel it is a forced way to please the lgbtq+ community but imho it felt alright. isobel is a tragic character, i guess. we will see if she comes back for althea or not.

S5.E5 - Slow and Unnecessary Episode [6/10]
panagiotis19934 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S5. E5) My Reaction / Review for Fear The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 5 ''The End of Everything'': Episode 4 was good and I gave it a rating of 7.6/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Nice to see Al again. Who is that lady with Al? She has the helicopter with the three circles so she has to be part of that organization. So no Victor, John, Luciana, June, Morgan, Alicia and Dwight in this episode? That sucks! Wow they are camping in the air? That's cool. Now we have some cilmbing too. We spend so much time watching them climbing, this episode is definitely filler. Boring long conversations. They kiss, I saw that coming. This is the kind of episode that focuses on one character and we don't need it. My rating is 6/10.

Unsatisfying and Bland
MellowStello1 July 2019
This entire series is as dry as a saltine in the desert, but this one was disrespectfully slow and dry.

The pacing throughout the episode made it obvious that the show runners were trying to give the audience as little as humanly possible while still calling it an episode.

No one cares about these characters, then again no one cares about ANY of the characters in this series. Fear The Walking Dead, which is the laziest title of a spinoff series in history, was a huge mistake and should be cancelled ASAP.

My honest perception
nomis941 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, this show really lost its track throughout the seasons. I'm still here because I really enjoy myself watching this show. The writing is somewhat sloppy and FTWD made it possible that a handful of great and promising characters just disappear without a trace (Taqa, Crazy Dog, Alex, Diana, Proctor John). And yet - I'm still here! Because I love the characters that are still in the game and Althea is one of them.

This episode is all about her and the mysterious woman Isabelle. I really enjoyed their interactions and was thrilled to see where this plot was going. That climbing-scene is full of tension and I like how they connected TWD and FTWD with that whole helicopter-mystery.

The thing I didn't like about this episode was the fact that Isabelle literally told us nothing about their people - I liked the little hints she gave us though. It's something big and the movies with Rick Grimes will give us more answers. 2020, where are you?

It's a so-called "filler-episode" as the main-story barely made some progress (beside the fact that our group and Al finally reunited). I don't mind these kinds of episodes as they often deliver some powerful character moments and Al definitely got some development in this one. I also loved how she was capable of saving Isabelle's and her own life while climbing that mountain!

After finishing the episode I felt satisfied and well entertained. That's my honest perception. And I really hope that Isabelle comes back to FTWD, she is a soldier. I'm happy that the band is back together now. I wonder what Logan is up to, the villain that has been introduced in episode 1 this season. I guess some casual viewers already forgot about him... ;)

Here, Althea's character is explored more thoroughly as we see her grapple with her journalistic instincts versus her growing affection for Isabelle
fernandoschiavi22 April 2024
After being kidnapped, Al meets a young woman named Isabelle who works for the mysterious group with the helicopter. Al hides her tape and coerces Isabelle to keep her alive before another team shows up. Despite repeated attempts to answers out of Isabelle, she remains secretive only saying they focus on the future and rebuilding to the point that its mission is more important than anything and anyone. After getting fuel for the helicopter, Al eventually leads Isabelle to the tape and destroys it, but Isabelle cannot bring herself to kill her due to their mutual attraction. On the promise not to say anything about the encounter, the two go their separate ways. Al reunites with Morgan, Alicia and Annie's group.

The fifth episode of "Fear the Walking Dead" Season 5, titled "The End of Everything," takes a deeper, more introspective look into the world of the mysterious group known only as CRM. It primarily focuses on Althea, who was captured in the previous episode, offering viewers an exclusive peek into the motivations and operations of this enigmatic organization through her interactions with Isabelle, a CRM soldier.

The episode is heavily character-driven, concentrating on the developing bond between Althea and Isabelle. As they navigate a series of dangerous situations together, including an intense encounter with walkers, their initial distrust evolves into a nuanced understanding of each other's motivations. The setting-ranging from high-tension environments atop crumbling infrastructures to quiet moments in secluded hideouts-provides a stark backdrop that enhances the emotional and thematic depth of their journey.

Althea's character is explored more thoroughly as we see her grapple with her journalistic instincts versus her growing affection for Isabelle. Her struggle highlights a central theme of the episode: the conflict between personal desire and greater duty. This is mirrored in Isabelle, who is torn between her mission's rigid demands and her burgeoning feelings for Althea. Their relationship, though brief, challenges their worldviews and culminates in a poignant goodbye that emphasizes sacrifice and secrecy necessary in their respective roles.

"The End of Everything" also excels in its pacing and suspense, building tension through the mystery surrounding CRM and the physical dangers the characters face. The episode culminates in a dramatic scene where Isabelle must decide whether to uphold her orders or spare Althea's life, showcasing the intense personal conflicts that define the series. This episode not only adds depth to Althea's character but also significantly expands the show's universe by providing glimpses into CRM's far-reaching influence and stringent policies.

In conclusion, "The End of Everything" is a standout episode in the season for its focus on character development, its exploration of complex themes such as duty versus desire, and its contribution to the broader narrative of "Fear the Walking Dead." It manages to deliver both thrilling action and deep emotional resonance, making it a compelling and enriching addition to the series.

Warning: Spoilers
5x5 Rating: 8.3/10 CRM episode

Storyline: In the rain, a tied up Althea is carried by the CRM soldier. She wakes up and notices them nearby spreading powder on the corpse of the armored walker before lighting it on fire. Althea grabs her bag and runs through the woods. She ultimately falls down a hill where she gets her camera out of the bag before continuing her sprint. She quickly gets surrounded by walkers and is saved by the stranger, who then knocks her to the ground. Althea knocks the helmet off the soldier revealing a woman who demands the camera.

The next morning, Althea finds herself tied to the passenger seat in an old car. She calls out to a nearby walker, grabs the barbed wire attached to it, and uses it to get free. She slams the walker's head in with the door and leaves. Nearby, she discovers a helicopter parked in the field.

Althea tries radioing Morgan and Alicia but a man radios back calling for "Ground 17." Suddenly, the woman appears and holds her at gunpoint, instructing her to get out. She tells the person on the radio that the lead was killed in action. "I can be inbound within 72 hours," she says, pointing out she has to get gas before delivering the payload. The man pauses and promises to send a reclamation team. The woman then demands Al give her the tape she recorded of the armored walker and papers it was carrying. Al agrees but only if she gets her story. The woman agrees but says they need to find fuel. They pack supplies and head out to a fuel drop to get gas for the helicopter.

On the road, Althea questions her on her background, rationalizing their stories will be all that's left after they're gone. Suddenly, walkers tumble down the hill and the woman instructs Al to stay inside, but she refuses. The woman gives her a bite-proof jacket and then takes care of the walkers. A second rockslide hits their car and tips it over. Al grabs her camera as a walker emerges from the rubble and tries to bite her, but the jacket saves her.

The woman finds a tape in Althea's bag called "The Bog #7" and watches it. In it, Althea reports that the National Guard and the Army are shooting at each other, and then apologizes to Jesse and says she should have stayed. Althea explains to the woman that her brother died and she risked her life for the tape because it's all she had left of him. The woman tells Al she should be afraid of the people in black uniforms. "We are a force who are not living for ourselves or for now. You have your stories, already making every day the past. We have the future," she says ominously.

Althea and the woman continue on their journey to retrieve gas. They ultimately post up for the night and talk about their common lives before the fall. The woman reveals she killed her partner because she was doing her job. "I do think stories matter, some things just matter more to me," she says.

The next day, the two scale a mountain with rock-climbing equipment. They encounter an undead climber and the woman nearly falls to her death. She repositions as Althea kills the walker and maneuvers around it. The two eventually reach the top and lay down. The woman reveals her partner, Beckett, used to be her friend and together they would fetch supplies to purify water around the power plant, but her partner got spooked by the undead and she had to kill him. She takes out a key and said it belonged to a cabin her partner liked, but she doesn't need it anymore. She tosses it off the cliff and reveals she might have to kill Al for operational security.

Althea tackles the woman and takes her rifle, saying she needs it for her own security. She then threatens to leave with the climbing equipment and supplies without her so the woman finally agrees to her interview. That night, the woman reveals she's from a community but won't reveal its name or location that's focused on rebuilding society for the future. She says if she doesn't show her where the tape is then there might not be a future to tell their stories in. The woman pulls out a beer and says she wishes she met Althea before this. They ultimately bond over a beer. "Everything's so ugly nowadays. This is nice," Althea says tearing up.

In the morning, the woman has her gun back and wakes up Althea to get moving. They head off for the tape which Althea put on one of the dead. The woman uses gunpowder and a match to get rid of the tape when Althea hands it to her. "The tape was only part of the story," the woman tells her. She then makes Althea turn around and puts a gun to the back of her head.

Althea hands her the tape with her brother on it, saying she hopes that he can live on. "I want you to live. Don't chase this story. Do not try to find me. I hope you get back to your friends and that you can all get home somehow," the woman says, deciding not to kill her. She reveals her name is Isabelle and she's from Indiana. She says Al's the prettiest thing she's seen in the apocalypse and then kisses her. Shortly after, they go their separate ways.

Isabelle puts down the two canisters of gas and kills three walkers on the road, returns to her helicopter, fuels it up, and turns it on. She radios that she's ready to return, and the voice says they've called off the reclamation team. She stares at Al's tape and flies away. Meanwhile, Althea watches the helicopter take off before using the radio to reach out to Morgan.

A while later, Morgan and Alicia reunite with Althea in the woods. She lies and says she got attacked by walkers and don't know where the helicopter went. The kids walk up and Morgan says he'll explain on the way. Before they leave, Al reveals her last name is Szewczyk-Przygocki, and she thought they should know that. They smile and walk off together.

Dull as dishwater
adambolton-4729112 July 2019
Alas, I feel that FTWD is heading the same way as TWD, in that the episode's are being needlessly dragged out, moralistic and the charaters are becoming increasingly unlikable.

I'll give the next episode a watch, but feel that I'll stop following, just I have done with TWD. Shame :(

No creativity
eugeniocll9 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
All this episode is a mess. Althea is a very original character with a lot of potential. It all went ruined. Her backstory doesn't simply fit, it's silly and not creative. In the episode, Althea just kinda falls in love with the woman who wanted to kill her and just pointlessly accepts her fate, but surprisingly (really?) there's no murder and they instead kiss each other. Cool. That woman just killed her partner few days earlier for less (but to protect the mission, sure) however spares Al who's a journalist and revealed her purpose of collecting the memory of that dying world. Just for the sake of love, I guess. Yeah, it makes sense. By the way, the final was predictable since the beginning of the episode. It's a really bad one.

Going downhill
paulofigueiredo25801 July 2019
I enjoyed the first few seasons of FTWD. I even at one point had the opinion that it surpassed TWD in all parameters. However seasons 4 & 5 are going downhill with new found emphasis on sloggy episodes that add little to nothing to the characters or their development. It's like they were envious of FTWD growing success and applied the TWD recipe to drag it down a awful notch. Season 5 has been terrible in all senses. Barely any action sequences, development story wise is pretty much non existent and there's this feeling that the characters are literally stranded not only in a physical location, but actually being held hostages of a flawed script. Everything that's been said and done in these 5 episodes could easily took at most 2. The series is grinding the wheel, waiting for the so called apotheosis in the last two episodes. Until then you get these slow, boring episodes of two women getting a lesbian moment out of the blue, because... why not? We all know that this agenda has been forced into our entertainment, we as well just accept that somewhere along it's journey, our series will have lgbt representatives. It's like forcing for the sake of inclusion and diversity, and not because it fits the narrative. In this case, the sole purpose of this episode was that kiss towards the end. Not that the series needed to tell us that she's gay, (we already knew) or that it was truly important for the plot. It was solely for the sake of "hey we have gay kisses in a zombie apocalypse. We're veeeery inclusive". When a series goes as far as using success as a background for other purposes other than to tell the story itself, it's when it all falls to pieces. There are better options out there in terms of entertainment. I hope this shows gets on track very soon.
