- A new summer of love starts tonight as Caroline Flack welcomes this year's line up of young singles to the Love Island villa. As ever, Iain Stirling narrates.
- Love Island involves a group of contestants, referred to as Islanders, living in isolation from the outside world in a villa in Mallorca, constantly under video surveillance. To survive in the villa the Islanders must be coupled up with another Islander, whether it be for love, friendship or money, as the overall winning couple receives £50,000. On the first day, the Islanders couple up for the first time based on first impressions, but over the duration of the series they are forced to "re-couple" where they can choose to remain in their current couple or swap and change. Any Islander who remains single after the coupling is eliminated and dumped from the island. Islanders can also be eliminated via public vote, as during the series the public vote through the Love Island app available on smartphones for their favourite couple, or who they think is the most compatible. Couples who receive the fewest votes risk being eliminated. Often a twist has occurred where it's been up to the Islanders to eliminate couples. During the final week, the public vote for which couple they want to win the series and therefore take home £50,000.
- The episode begins by introducing 5 single girls to the villa- Amy Hart (26) who is an air hostess, Amber Gill (21) who is a beauty therapist, Anna Vakili (28) who is a pharmacist, Yewande Biala (23) who is a scientist and Lucie Donlan (21) who is a surfer. The girls are then one by one introduced to five single boys- Anton Danyluk (24) who is a gym owner, Sherif Lanre (20) who is a chef and semi-professional rugby player, Michael Griffiths (27) who is a firefighter, Joe Garratt (22) who is a catering company owner and Callum Macleod (28) who is an aircraft engineer. The boys are asked to choose a girl to pair up with, but the girls are allowed to show interest when a new boy arrives. The final couples are- Amy and Anton, Lucie and Joe, Amber and Callum, Anna and Sherif and Yewande and Michael.
The day progresses as the couples get to know each other. Lucie and Joe get on very well together even on the first day. Amy reveals that she has never had a boyfriend, so she is very much into Anton at the moment. But Anton tries to tell Lucie that he fancies her too, which causes Joe and Amy's head to raise. At the end of the night, the islanders are playing the game of "Never have I ever" when Amber gets a text. They are then introduced to two new boys- Curtis Pritchard (23) who is a ballroom and Latin dancer and Tommy Fury (20) who is a boxer himself and brother to the professional heavyweight boxer, Tyson Fury. As all 12 of the islanders are talking and getting to know each other, Curtis gets a text which reads, "In 24 hours, Curtis and Tommy will each couple up with a girl of their choice, leaving two boys single and vulnerable."
At the end of the episode, Joe admits that he really likes Lucie, but he is worried because he doesn't get a say anymore. Amy reveals that she thinks both the new boys are fit and if anyone wants to couple up with her, that's fine.
