The Polish title of the film, "Sala samobójców. Hejter" links to Jan Komasza's 2011 movie Sala samobójców (2011). Beata Santorska, the head of the PR agency where Tomasz Giemza is employed, is the mother of Dominik, the main character of the 2011 film.
The Hater was released on demand (VOD) just twelve days after its theatrical premiere--the very first mainstream Polish production to do so. A few days after its release, cinemas and movie theaters were closed in Poland due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak. So the distributor decided to make the movie available on demand.
