Following its premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival last year, the critically acclaimed Superboys of Malegaon is now officially streaming on Prime Video, and ahead of its debut, we were able to catch up with producer Zoya Akhtar (Gully Boy; Dahaad; Kho Gaye Hum Kahan) and stars Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger; Extrapolations; Hostel Daze) and Vineet Kumar Singh (Mukkabaaz; Gangs of Wasseypur; Betaal) to talk about the incredible film, which is based on the 2008 documentary of the same name, that adapts the true life story of filmmaker Nasir Shaikh and his friends.

In our conversation, Akhtar talks me through the magic of filmmaking and why this kind of story will always resonate, while Gourav and Singh elaborate on their different approaches for their respective characters, and how they were able to play proper homage to the real-life people while also leaving their own mark on the parts.

After a rave reception at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival last year and its theatrical launch in late February, the critically acclaimed coming-of-age drama Superboys of Malegaon has arrived on Prime Video, and leading up to its debut, we sat down with director Reema Kagti, breakout star Shashank Arora, writer Varun Grover, and the film's real-life inspiration Nasir Shaikh.

Speaking with the quartet, Kagti explains what initially inspired her to turn the 2008 documentary into a full-fledged feature film and how this particular story can resonate with audiences of all ages.

Grover and Arora also explain how visiting and talking to the people of Malegaon influenced their approaches, as a writer and actor, respectively, and how they were able to bring a real authenticity to the project - something Shaikh can attest to, as while watching the film, he once again found himself transported to that unique period of his life.

With her work in ‘Angry Indian Goddesses’, ‘Sexy Durga’ and ‘Manto’ having been showcased at top-end film festivals, Rajshri Deshpande stresses on the significance of reaching out to festival audiences as opposed to chasing commercial success. Rajshri was present for the opening ceremony of the Cinevesture International Film Festival (Ciff), which is being held in Chandigarh from March 27 to 31.

Exclusive: Leading Bollywood production house T-Series is making its first foray into web series with crime thriller Kaala for Disney+ Hotstar.

Created and directed by Bejoy Nambiar, the series stars Avinash Tiwary, Rohan Vinod Mehra, Nivetha Pethuraj, Taher Shabbir and Hiten Tejwani. Nambiar is also producing with T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar.

Actress Rajshiri Deshpande, who is best known for her role in films and serials such as ‘Angry Indian Goddess’, ‘Sexy Durga’, ‘The Sacred Games’, ‘The Fame Game’, and most recently the Netflix series ‘Trial by Fire’, plays a voyeur in this social thriller, set in the slums of Mumbai.

The teaser of the film looks promising and intriguing due to its more grounded setting and tense nature. It gives a dark and very real insight into how surveillance cameras capture more than just public spaces, and how public surveillance is a tool that can become a double edged sword, one hand aiding in the safety of the public but also become a tool for criminal minds.

Ott platforms have not just changed the rules of the entertainment market, they have given, literally, a second life to Bollywood stars who had faded away from the public eye for quite some time. Of late, a number of senior actors, who had virtually retired from the industry or had limited theatrical releases, are now being reinvented and getting a hugely positive response to their work, courtesy of streaming platforms.

The film is a tale of conflict narrated through the life of a celebrated journalist and her cook.
